Class of 2026 CG Ryan Moesch (NY) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (4/14/26)

He needs to add strenght, obviously, but what he should do is learn to be incredibly slippery. If you're going to be small in a forest, use it to your advantage. Don't try to be what you aren't. Find creases, apply pressure, get guys drop stepping as you blow by them. Get good at pocket passes, drop offs, etc.

Get quick on lift off for floaters and quick jumpers.
I don't think he needs to be much of a scorer at all ala Scoop. Score in open court when presented but otherwise protect the ball and create space for plus scorers like the Euro kid we signed.

Cuse will ask different things from him than his AAU. If he can establish a 3 pt shot that has to be accounted for his dribble drive kickouts will create much more space. Scoop went from 28% to 38% from 3 in 1 year on the hill and from 2:1 assist to turnover to over 4:1. That's really all you need from a PG. Protect the ball, play defense, and create looks for 3m and Sadiq.

FWIW I don't expect more than 10-12 mins per game for him year 1. We'll play some mixture of the 6'5, more physically developed combo guards and win some 65-58 rock fights that were 75-62 losses last year. Not sexy but winning ugly is sure better than losing pretty.

How about football? I ask because the blueprint are pretty identical. GMAC is just skipping the 2024 part and getting right to building it up the right way. Football needed an energy boost that basketball already had the second GMAC came back amongst the casual fans.
I'm not in agreement that the blueprints are identical, plus Fran already proved a certain high is achievable for him as our head coach.

That's still an unknown for Gerry.

People explaining how the minutes are getting distributed in the backcourt this year ha

I don't think its controversial comparing Moesch to GMAC, I think it is preposterous.

Moesch being half the player McNamara was is a dream scenario. Even though he was ranked 38 in his class by RSCI, GMAC greatly outplayed his expectations from his very first games. He scored 13 in MSG in his career opener. Anthony wasn't the only revelation in that game.

Moesch isn't ranked for a reason. McNamara had an elite skill and it wasn't "intangibles." GMAC was a lethal shooter, full stop. He could come off screens, shoot off the dribble, catch and shoot and pull up jumper. If he was a guy who had teams around him that allowed him to just come off screens or catch and shoot, he might have still made 400 threes, but at a much higher percentage.

Or did everybody just think "JB says things" when he gave his "not 10 #$&^&#^ Games" rant about GMAC?

Moesch might be a good player, he might even be a great player. But if he is even in the same conversation as GMAC after his freshman year, I would be nothing short of astonished. I give the odds of him playing 10 minutes or less per game, with multiple DNPs as a higher probability than him hitting 85 threes and scoring 467 points as a freshman.

I find some of the comparisons we see here silly, like Doty to Rautins (in another thread) and Moesch to GMAC. I suppose its natural to compare players we haven't seen with ones we have.

But Moesch doesn't resemble GMAC in any way other than being short and white.
One of the issues that hurts the comparison competition is this: Gerry played with Melo, who drew an inordinate amount of attention, freeing Gerry up do his thing. SU doesn’t (seemingly) have that guy.
