Class of 2026 CG Ryan Moesch (NY) to Siena

Was the 1st SU guard that came to mind that is similar in size and explosiveness. I'll try better Blanko

Just a world of difference in talent is all. It’s a pet peeve I have with analysts too, they throw around big name comparisons for players who are at completely different levels and then the players will get flack when they don’t perform up to unrealistic standards.

Also just realizing Putnam has a Rochester kid, Jalen Taggart, who might be the nephew of my old basketball coach. Not positive if he's related or not. At any rate, he's a junior in high school and led Putnam in scoring this season; seems to be their best shooter. Plays for City Rocks on the EYBL circuit...maybe worth keeping an eye on.

Haven't watched the Newman game yet but did watch this one. Think he finished with over 30 points and was fairly efficient doing so. He's both very crafty and very athletic, pretty great combination there. Kinda took a beating and was letting the refs know how he felt about it, but kept chugging along doing his thing. He has the hostage dribble down where he comes off a screen and gets his defender on his back and holds them off while reading the help defenders before deciding if he should shoot or pass. If we're going to be a heavy ball screen based offense, he is definitely a fit for that kind of system; seems extremely comfortable doing that.

I imagine being small (both in height and strength) and having more of a set shot is probably a big part of why he's only a 3 star recruit. On the brightside, while he doesn't really elevate for his jumpshot, it is at least quick. But really, he seems to mostly want to use his craftiness and quickness to get into the paint and get to his floater/layup game. TBD how well that'll work against D1 athletes, but the hostage dribble/floater combo is an absolute must to survive with his size IMO and it is fortunately a strength for him. Pretty cool player; always tough to succeed at his size but he seems to have the tools that you need to be able to survive.

Edit: One other kinda weird thing with his shot: he puts very little spin on the ball. He doesn't quite shoot a knuckleball but it has a lot less rotation than you usually see. I don't even really know how you go about fixing that/if you try to lol; that's not an issue I've ever personally had when I was learning how to shoot so it's kinda foreign to me how someone would even do it.

Then our expectations are pretty low. If we’re going to rely on Doty and Ryan, forget about making the tournament. Neither are ACC players.
You are probably right. I’m sure they are planning on playing 5 against 2 for the season. Because those are the only two they would rely on.
Talk about a straw man argument.

You seem to be locked in with Cushing. Any chance things change with Edema now that more NIL could be available/new staff?

I will ask - I know he really liked us and his decision to eliminate us was entirely financial - we were offering something way different than several other schools - can’t blame him - we would definitely want this guy as he really is 7ft and athletic

He obviously stood out due to his sheer size in the game I watched. PSA has a guy roughly the same size as well who is committed to Maryland. They both seem extremely raw/still trying to figure out how to play but they are absolute units lol. I think Edema had a drop step/hook shot that he missed where he literally forgot to look at the basket when shooting. Made me chuckle pretty good. Probably still finished with around 15 points a bunch of rebounds/blocks though. He feels like one of those guys that Leonard Hamilton would have been interested in at Florida State where he takes those raw 7 footers and teaches them how to play.

My question would be, can you afford to be that patient in the NIL/Transfer Portal era? Idk. There's a chance that the smarter play is establishing a relationship with him so that we have a leg up when he's hopefully developed a bit and is in the transfer portal.

Woild he come here just to redshirt year 1? He could play at th MAAC level then portal up - either with us or elsewhere

That is my one concern. Dont know how many high schoolers really want to play for GMAC...
No coach we hired would have freshmen next year.

And it’s 2026. Outside of Duke not many going that route. The greenback is recruiting players these days.

What about the recruit from Siena. Won’t he be aa freshman if he does come to Syracuse?
