Class of 2026 CG Ryan Moesch (NY) to Siena

My issue is 155 pounds.
I mentioned this somewhere before, but check out Tyler Tanner at Vanderbilt. Kid was listed 6’ 150 3 star recruit coming out of high school. Now listed as 6’ 170 lbs, breakout sophomore, 1st team All-SEC and Honorable Mention AA.

We can dream Moesch progresses the same way. I feel like ‘Cuse is due for this type of kid that just explodes in his development.

Ok but wouldn't it be somewhat unusual if three such guys were all out of the same historically unremarkable program at the same time?
I don't think anybody is expecting these guys to win player of the year. I think Doty is reasonably expected to be a starter or significant bench piece. Folefac hopefully would just be bench depth and then we'll see with Moesch. Guys capable of carrying their team to victories against the best HS players in the country like Moesch generally don't end up committing to Siena. I'm not confident that he would be good here but I do think him ending up as a Siena player is unusual.

he supposedly weighs 155 pounds. So he is tiny.

Not saying he can't hoop, but that physique will be a problem [at least initially] in the ACC.
I believe the 155 # is from his junior year in Chittenango. We're 2 years away from that. I would assume he's gained some weight. From a quick search I'm seeing 170# listed now. Agree he's still a skinny kid but doubt it's 155.

That's fair -- people gain weight as they get older / physically mature. Even so, ~170 pounds is still awfully light for a P4 conference player. Play is just so physical at that level.

247 put out a report that said his stature would seem like it would limit him but he’s shifty and able to use it to his advantage. You don’t score 36 ppg on accident. Definitely worth an offer and if he isn’t ready, toss him a red shirt.

If Folefac is considered bench depth, whom is considered to be the starters if GMac has not considered who he wants to stay and who wants to stay.

I would like to think one of Donnie/White will stay and start and that we will bring in a better/bigger player than Folefac for the C position.

Hope you are right but there is no guarantee that either will stay. If one stays, I’m hoping for White over Freeman.

I know for fact he is coming - he is 5-10 and not 6-0 - my friends son plays with him at Cushing - he tells me that Ryan is the best player on the floor in every game they played and that includes when he was a junior - he out played Tilllery last year - he dominated Rippey doing whatever he wanted this year - only thing that could potentially hold him back is he is very small and that’s why he is rated so low

Video from the game referenced in the bolded. A quick google search didn't show their respective stats, and I am not ready to watch that much video of two players not committed to Syracuse. Somebody will enjoy it, and I'll come back if GMAC actually pulls him to Syracuse.

12:15 mark Moesch gets clotheslined - no call. five seconds later defender flops and moesch gets the foul.

Kid has ball skill and a bounce for sure - loose with the ball but definitely has game as a development players

Coached against/watched him many times when he was at Cazenovia/Chittenango. Freak athlete with amazing feel for the game. Shot definitely is pretty streaky but never lacks for confidence
People have been suggesting that Moesch is rated so low only because he is small. I think that is part of it, but his shot isn't exactly textbook. If he could clean that up and become a 38% 3pt shooter, his ability to get to the basket would be a lot more reliable at the next level.

As it is, I think he could be a decent player, but will have trouble finishing against ACC bigs, and doesn't shoot well enough to keep defenses honest.

One thing that we haven't seen in a while is the trend that often occurred with JB coached teams, the huge improvement of role players through coaching development. If you go back to 1995 (which is when I started moving from casual fan to much more interested fan) the number of players who went from unplayable freshmen to studs by their junior or senior year is legion.

We watched guys stagnate the last few years under Red and the last years of JB's coaching career.

The reason I mention this in the Moesch thread is that he looks like a player who could become great, or never actually be playable. He needs to get stronger, he needs to develop a reliable 3pt shot, and he will have a big adjustment going to the basket against legit bigs. It is just harder to score against long athletic wings and bigs at this level. He might be blocked a lot until he adapts.

Moesch would be a great test case for GMAC's coaching staff. Can they bring the 90th percentile projection out of players, or will they be the same guy their whole career?

Contrast this with Red's track record. In Starling's case, he was actually worse in his third year being coached by Red. Chris Bell was exactly the same guy both years under Red, and got a bit (incrementally) better once he transferred away. Copeland became a stud after leaving, Westry and Majstorovic left and played really well (though at lower levels). We had no evidence of development in anybody coached by Red.

Found the box score

Rippey had 7 points and 7 assists on 3/12 shooting (0/7 from 3).

Moesch had 12 and 3 on 4/11 shooting (3/8 from 3).

Was a low scoring rock fight.

A question? When a coach leaves, a player may enter the portal (I think within 5 days following hiring of new coach?). Does this apply to letter of intents (I know they're not enrolled yet) or do they need to be released from loi? It seems like it should since they signed with that coach just like an enrolled player. Thanks in advance.

He needs to be released from his National Letter of Intent.
