Chance and Naheem?

block percentage and rim protection are totally different categoris

what is the % of paint points opponents have while naheem is on the floor? that will tell you if he is protecting the rim or not...i suspect it would be much higher than anyone would guess

from my anecdotal observations opponents seem to get a lot of paint points vs naheem, rendering his blocks not so impactful

the benefit of a rim protector is that opponents dont score in the paint and have to make longer more difficult shots...not just so a team or player can rack up statistical bragging data

now, if that is bc of how naheem is being coached and told to move...well then that is 100% on the coaches and not the player

in that case naheem should find a team that uses him to his strengths
Yep. Blocks percentage is ok if you're just stat-scouting, but it only goes so far. The elite rim protectors block so many shots that opponents eventually stop attacking them altogether, so the chances diminish (The Anthony Davis Effect, or Deion if you want a football analogy).

Red has made it clear that he wants to run. Naheem can't do that even when healthy. Also, because he's not a threat to shoot outside of 5 feet it allows the defense to clog the paint against our drivers.

As I posted in another thread, the bigger question is why Red didn't bring in another natural 5 to spell Lampkin.

Are we sure Eddie is quicker than McLeod? Dry Rub is one of the slowest guys I've seen play basketball.

Folks have a short term memory with McLeod. CardiacCuse did a great job of breaking down his numerous errors after the slippery rock game. The stats do not come anywhere close to telling the full story with him. His bball IQ/awareness may be the lowest on the team. His offensive game makes Chukwu look like a total god. He is unbelievably slow. I think he should be getting a couple mins here and there to spell Lampkin but his numerous mistakes more than cancel out the one or two blocks he will get.

misses cross court pass to give up 3 pointer (couldve easily stolen if a little aware)

loses man who then assists for layup

View attachment 246395
blatantly pushes man in back for no reason - offensive foul

View attachment 246396
part of team defense beaten back door for layup...

WHy is he so far from hoop???

his help defense is atrocious...if I was his coach he would be instructed to stay within 5 feet of the hoop at all times

you cant protect the rim if you arent near the rim...thats the biggest issue I see with him POSITIONING is very bad. i truly dont get it. he cannot play team defense? or hes being told to ONLY guard his man???

opponents consistenyl get way too many layups with him on the floor...it makes no sense

all of thes things happend in 5 minutes in the 1st half! (came into the game with 5 point lead left with 7 point lead...but he get stats! smh)

once freeman came on the cuse blew the game open...no coincidence...

a lot of these breakdowns by naheem dont show up in the boxscore...hes a guy who benefits greatly from the blindspots in analytics. in my humble opinion.

i suppose he makes personnel decisions on vibes and personal feelings a lot of the time

Until he hired the general manager this summer, Red was literally shooting darts at a board with pictures of players on it.

That's why he had to come up with extra money for Lampkin over the summer... No plan B!

I was being sarcastic. :)

People use literally far too liberally these days when they mean figuratively.

Thus, it wasn't so obvious I was joking with the image of a dart board literally filled with players faces and Red building a roster through random tosses.

Fair points - he wants to be able to run, and Naheem maybe hinders that. Maybe.

On the other hand, giving up layups prevents you from running at all.
When your fast break points vs. Colgate were 2 for us and 26 for them, or something like that, then maybe bring in somebody to commit a few fouls and block a couple shots, just to change the dynamics.

He doesn't have to be in the game more than 5 or 10 minutes to make a difference. He doesn't have to to be elite anything. Do you Jeremy Mc Neil was "elite"? I don't. But he was effective for 10-15 minutes a game.

We have that piece ON THE BENCH, and our interior defense so far SUCKS. Just try it, Red.

Same thing with Carlos - if he's he's not paying well, he doesn't have to be out there for 30 minutes. Give Cuffe a couple shifts. He honestly couldn't be worse than what we've seen so far.
