What about the Xavier guys who started it? They shouldn't get off without something. IMHO, the kid who kicked the big white dude in the head while he was down should be gone for the season. Gates should have 10 minimum for the sucker punch to the big white dude. The two Xavier players who shoved the cincy guy to the floor should get 5 each, and the one Xavier dude in the warm-ups who punched Gates over the top of the ref should get 10.

Agree that the stomper should lose the season and Gates should lose ten.

Also, I'd be happy for Gates to be out when we visit them. And the three refs ought to be suspended too. These knuckleheads who won't enforce the rules shouldn't be officiating games.

I have no problem with fighting between two people. Suspend those people a game or two. But when someone takes a cheap shot and isn't fighting man to man they are a coward and should get harsher punishment. 6 games is too harsh for anyone outside of Gates. And 6 is waaay too short for Gates.

Gates was suspended last year for the same thing ... obviously kid has anger control issues. 6 games is totally insufficient ... I believe he sucker punched 2 yesterday. Frease was bleeding ... punched and kicked. Absolutely no place in college basketball for this behavior. There are kids on Xavier that need to be suspended as well ... Holloway, for one. The 6 games was placed on by the University? The BE and NCAA can add more I believe ... should get a minimum of 10. Bad news

6 games is too harsh for anyone outside of Gates.

The guy who kicked Frease in the head while he was on the ground after Gates suckerpunched him deserves not only to be suspended for the year, but to be arrested for assault with a deadly weapon (shod foot). That was the single biggest travesty of the whole fight and the announcers didn't even mention it.

Lost in all this player bashing is the fact that the officials should have stopped the trash talk earlier with a couple of well placed technicals. The trash talking was out of control and the officials should share some of the blame.

Fights happen but not really that often in basketball. This was pretty serious and if it happened on the street it wouldn't be a case of "these things happen"...someone would go to jail.

Gates getting suspended for only 6 games is total bs. At a lot of schools (those with integrity) he'd be done for the season. He should have gotten at least 12 games in my view. The Xavier kids who were taunting the Cincy bench at the end of the game should have gotten 5 games. And the Xavier player who shoved the Cincy player, touching the violence off, should have gotten 8 games--double what he got. The conferences need to be tough on this as a deterrent. Holloway really came off an ass in his postgame interview. I can't imagine any Syracuse player saying stuff like that.

Why is it that when a fight happens in Hockey, everyone cheers. But if there is a fight in Basketball, we need to end someone's season?
