Cincinnati hires Scott Satterfield

Shocking.

Satterfield is terrible, so I'm a little surprised that this is who Cincinnati chased to replace Fickel. But him jumping to another team that his team is playing in a bowl puts an even stranger twist on this bizarre situation.

Half of them were from Don Bosco. Is there some connection there? Maybe this is an NIL recruiting class rather than a Satterfield recruiting class.
Not sure what his connection is though they had 4 players commit from St. John Bosco in California. 3 4 stars and 1 3 star. Also had 4 commits from Miami.

I would imagine they would get good NIL in Cincy too.

I think there has been tension there ever since word got out that he was looking at South Carolina soon after he got there. Would not be surprised to see Brohm end up there-he has said in the past he would be interested, but didn't want to leave Purdue so soon after getting there before.

Whoa

Put me squarely in the not impressed and not surprised categories. UC had 2 main priorities for their coaching search:
  1. Head coaching experience.
  2. Familiarity with the NIL landscape.
I guess Satterfield checks both those boxes but most of the UC fanbase right now is...

It's what I call a lazy meathead hire but I'm not surprised as the athletic administration including Cunningham are a little perplexing. I knew Deion was not gonna happen, neither Hartline or Minter meet the #1 requirement.

Satterfield was a hot coaching commodity 6 years ago and likely can still coach. Fickell had recruits coming to Cincy and Satterfield had them coming to Louisville. Cincinnati has more to sell.

Good insight. I think Cincinnati was also attracted to his App State experience when they transitioned from FCS to FBS and now Cincinnati is transitioning to the B12.

I actually have a little insight on this. Satterfield knew he wasn't wanted there anymore. I think he was being proactive. Cincinnati became available so he pursued that knowing it was a big possibility he was leaving. This all stems from that QB guru coach (forgot his name). He has a lot of power and influence at Louisville. He wanted to bring his own guy in.

They better put a wall up. Despite not playing since 2013 these programs and fan bases do not like each other. UL is UC's biggest traditional rival but UL's biggest rival is UK and UK could care less about UL. I would expect Satterfield to watch from some luxury suite and stay as far from the sideline as possible.
But how does the NCAA allow Fenway to be used if it can't host a game properly. This is Peewee football level.

Hopefully this is the last one. Coaches will hate being on one end of the field.

Cheap UHaul move up I-71. Saved some coin there but wifey may be pissed if she has to drive the truck.

Louisville is going to stink next year don't we not play them again until 2025?

The Fenway Bowl is going to be awesome I'm looking forward to going to it as a neutral.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with their recruiting class. If they mostly stay, that tells you they were promised $.

Steve Clarkson, whose son is committed to UL?

So is this guy the next Edsall as most despised coach in college football?

So he was not liked at Louisville and he may have done some improper things. The players and families were not keen on him. But the way this went down is not good. The player I know who is at Louisville was home for the weekend and found out via a tweet as he was going through airport security this morning. He got to have a quick convo with his parents about it. Overall they are happy he is gone, but not so much about how he did this. The players were clueless, and now they have a bowl game to prepare for, are in the dark about their future, and in the end, I feel the kids are the ones left to suffer. The whole bowl game is now the world's largest soap opera. The kids just want to play the game without the attached drama. You just ruined it for them and you probably stole Xmas while at it...

Looking at this from Cincinnati's perspective--this seems like an iffy move. Satterfield's coaching ability has come into question over the past couple of years, and, as mentioned by Tomcat, he has no great Ohio connections.

From Satterfield's point of view--get out when you can. It's clear UL's admins, boosters, and fanbase had soured on him. The UC situation has to be better (at least initially).
