CJ Returns: Official Anouncement

The issues arent mysterious at all, CJ had to consider whether or not to come back to a team that maybe dealing NCAA penalties and perhaps a new coach. Neither one is likely especially the latter one but it was still something CJ had to consider.

So in that case, which other players are considering leaving due to these reasons? I'm not sure why it would be limited to CJ.

When JB is forced out and SU is hit with a boatload of sanctions, I'll come back here and apologize to all the folks who have been "warning" us of this impending doom for months now...

Yes, I would Double-Like if possible. So?

STARTERS
PG Ennis
SG Gbinjie
C Coleman
SF Fair
PF Grant or Rak (Grant if Rak dosn't make improvements in practice)

BENCH (Jan-on)
Cooney
Baye
Roberson
Patterson (if he can handle the ball some)

Will be interesting to see what happens with Rak / if he comes back.

If he does, we're that much stronger inside. And it would give JB the flexibility to bring someone like Grant potentially off the bench, continuing the trend of having a super-scorer off of the bench that we've enjoyed in recent years. Grant would play starters minutes, like Southerland / Scoop / KJ as reserves.

Lots of possibilities.

Who said anything about JB being forced out or SU being hit with a boatload of sanctions? My post was in response to your questioning what other reasons he might have to consider leaving SU two of those were JB potentially deciding to retire or the NCAA leveling some type of sanctions based on the ongoing investigation. IF you cant see how that would affect a player potentially leaving for the NBA versus someone like Trevor Cooney or Keita, then I dont know what to tell you.

If they ever have the same situation with a guy left hanging for a high five then I will save that picture for ever!

At first it didn't load as a gif and I thought it was just a picture of the Oregon student section...lol, but now that I saw it as a gif it makes more sense.

And what I'm saying is, how does anyone here know that CJ gave one ounce of consideration to the fact that SU could be hit with sanctions? First of all, the only place I've heard that rumor is here. Second of all, I'm not sure why it would matter. CJ is not a 1st round pick. He's not a 1st Round pick regardless of what sanctions could hit the program. So if the program was penalized, why would that all of a sudden make it a better decision for him to leave? It's not like he wouldn't be able to play next year and improve his draft stock just because the program was sanctioned. I don't understand how the two would be related.

I would be literally SHOCKED if CJ sat down in a room with his family and discussed what may or may not happen to SU as a result of this investigation while they were trying to determine his NBA decision.

You mean other reasons beside making a boatload of money NOW and not having to take college courses any more? No. Those reasons aren't worth considering, are they. (Not addressed at you, Jeremy).

Plus he had to weigh the larger decision, how his chances are this year vs next. Mainly around going in the first round for the guaranteed money. Even with improvement, getting in next year may prove difficult. For instance, this year UK will probably send one person in ahead of him, next year they will probably be sending 7.

And to answer this last part, if everyone was worried about sanctions on the program, where are all the rumors of players XYZ possibly transferring? I would think it would have MORE of an effect on a guy like DC, who has 3 years of eligibility left and needs to be someplace where he'll be able to showcase his talent, especially in a postseason environment. Yet I don't hear any such rumors. I fail to see how possible program sanctions would mean CJ leaving for the NBA would be smarter than coming back next year. He's not a 1st Round pick.

CJ Fair announced today he'll be returning to Syracuse for his senior season. He joins Chris and Steve right now on Upon Further Review!

34. Fair had three DNPs as a freshman.

Not easy, but doable.
and Baye is 1 game ahead of CJ, so if they manage to win 33 or more and both play in every win, BMK will finish as the all time winningest SU player

(Baye played in all 27 wins as a freshman to CJ's 24; as sophomores, CJ played in all 34 wins to Baye's 32; as juniors both played in all 30 wins)

SU's 100 game winners:

Triche 121
Joseph 117
Thompson 114
Coleman 113
Triche 113
Jardine 110
Douglas 109
Jackson 106
Seikaly 105
Johnson 104
McNamara 103
Forth 103
Hak 103
McNeil 103
Bouie 100
Orr 100

next up:
BMK 89
CJ 88

First of all information gets out, not everything is posted on this board be it rumors or info thats turns out to be 100% spot on. Did you miss Jakes post about fair where he mentioned the NCAA tourney next year? Do you think he put that in for shitts and giggles? A lot of people are given info that they are asked not to sure publicly especially this board which Syracuse university knows all about.

Second being a first round pick or not is meaningless, Fair just had the most exposure he could get with the final four run and players declare all the time who know they are unlikely to be drafted in the first round. Third when a player is on the fence about returning do you honestly not think whether or not the team is going to be hit with sanctions plays a part? Fair is not coming back to play a season like Uconn just had with no tournament. Lastly no one said anything about fair sitting down with his family discussing in great depth what may or may not happen at SU because of the investigation but it certainly played a role in his decision along with a multitude of other things.

Yes. I definitely like the potential of Grant coming off the bench like you say. Energy/Scorer as in the past.

The boatload of money he'd earn on a 2nd Round non-guaranteed contract? That's my whole point. I never expected CJ to leave because I don't see many guys who are headed for 2nd Round / undrafted status declaring early. Now, I don't know CJ's personal situation and if the money he'd earn in the D-League or in Europe were enough to pull him away, then that's fine, but since I had never heard that anywhere, I had no inclination to think he'd be leaving.

Thats because no potential sanctions have been announced and all of those players woudl have to sit out a year if they transferred.

Actually, not sure what Jake post you are talking about, would love to see it though so I know what you're talking about.

And this is exactly what annoys me - you talk as though you were in the room with CJ when he made his decision. Unless you are in his close circle of people, I doubt you have any idea what factors "certainly" played a role in his decision.

And like I said, I'm still waiting for someone to tell me why we haven't heard more rumors of players transferring if these sanctions are such a serious concern.

Good points but given your incredulity, it sounds like you hadn't considered that as a possibility.

And more players went early than could be drafted in one round. Players come out with no chance of even being drafted all the time.

Serious question for you or anyone else who "knows something". If sanctions were to be given out, when would we know about them? Over the summer? 2 weeks before the season? I'm serious, I want to know the timing on these things typically so that I know when I will be able to stop reading about this nonsense.

Wow, forgot all about Baye.

Crazy, but I think those guys have a very good shot to be even with Joseph at this time next year.

I get it, but like I said, I had never heard of those types of issues related to CJ. I feel like a lot of times with guys that leave early with no chance of being drafted high (see Paul Harris), we know of things going on behind the scenes that are impacting their decisions. My point is, I never heard those things related to CJ, so I never expected him to leave.

His post is about his thoughts on Fair from earlier this afternoon before he announced he returned. Obviously I wasnt in the room but if you could read between the lines I was tryign to make it clear I wasnt just making this stuff up and had a good source without having to specifically point it out. Lastly let me be the person to point out the sanctions issue for you. If the NCAA announces in 4-5 Months potential sanctions players on roster can transfer at any point, Fair cant retroactively declare for a draft that happened two months before. Potential Sanctions are a big time concern for all invovled in the basketball program thats been made pretty clear here for going on a year.

I have made zero posts about potential sanctions and only mentioned it in passing regarding CJ's decision so lets get that straight. Second I have zero idea when the NCAA will even give the formal notice of the actual violations less when any actual sanctions maybe issued but I can tell you it certainly isnt "nonsense", when the NCAA is sniffing around for a year plus.

CJ Fair is in Gross' box, and CJ Fair is coming back !!!

Oh my goodness gracious.
Imagine CJ and Grant bookending Rak/Keita/Coleman. Potentially best frontline in years.
