Clean House on this roster

Jimmy was going to be terrible for the most part. Cole has a higher ceiling and should be more consistently good. Can’t airball threes…

Cole was a 6ppg scorer in a limited role at around 20 mpg. Now he is playing 10 more mpg with double his output. He also has far fewer stinkers than AG and when AG didn't score he didn't do much of anything. Cole busts his tail out there all game.

Not saying I'm picking Cole first amongst our stable of forwards in history but he has done most of what we needed him to.

It's been Buddy's struggles, Benny's struggles and just the failure to add more athleticism and at times lineup choices that have killed us.

If JB is our head coach I’d rather have Swider on the team than Buddy. We aren’t winning chit with Buddy as our best player and if his dad is the coach that’s how it’ll be.
Yeah but Swider had an air ball with 3 minutes left.
Don’t forget that.
4 for 13 with an airball.

Big time bust.

The entire offense was Buddy and Joe chucking 3's. Most contested. So they did amazing well to make 8-17. We got nothing inside not even from Jimmy. Not unexpected without Jesse. Too many turnovers against pressure. And the officiating sucked and allowed VaTech to push and shove the whole game as well as ignoring several swipes on the arms of ball handlers that were ignored. Foul calls 18 vs 9. Total BS.

I hate blaming the refs, especially when SU did plenty else to deserve a loss. But foul calls SU 18, VT 9 and free throws SU 4, VT 21 practically calls for an investigation. Just on the eye test, it looked like every one of SU's 11 turnovers came after some kind of Hokie contact. This was not one of those games where you got upset at Orange players for making horrendous passes. VT was not picking pockets clean either. This game was a banquet to feed the beast of ACC home-cookin' conspiracy (yes, even though VT transferred in, just like we later did, culturally they are more ACC). I had enough when Anselem went up for that dunk late in the game, got hit on the hand, ball went loose, he fell to the floor, and nothing was called. Ted Valentine was part of the crew, by the way. Any surprise?

One more ref complaint...on the infamous Buddy backdown strip at 54-54, Aluma dove for the loose ball, skidded across the floor, then passed it off, leading to the bucket where VT never looked back. My understanding is that play is a travel. Turnover. Ball back to Syracuse. Who knows what happens after that.

Yes, was a clear travel on VaTech player. Not called.

In the first half, there were 3 I think consecutive calls in a row that went against VT, that were bad calls, Childress pointed it out. One where Buddy was cleanly stripped by Cattour at the top of the key area, one that clearly went off Symir under our basket, and another near the baseline under the VT basket that went off Swider.

And, the reason that the foul shot attempts are so much higher for VPI, is because our offense consists of a bunch of chuckers, who do just that on just about every possession, chuck, chuck and more chucking. Hard to get to the foul line when that is the offensive strategy.

Need athletes. Not slow plodding average shooters. Our offense is horrendous. Cole has been such a disappointment
Yes we need better athletes. But this is a hyperbolic comment about the offense. The numbers back it up. Syracuse has consistently been among the top 20 teams in KenPom offensive efficiency all season. Obviously tonight we struggled, but a huge part of that is losing Jesse and the adjustment to losing everything he did for us. Again, the offense isn’t the problem. It’s our horrendous DEFENSE that’s central to our struggles.

You can rely on stats only and think we are efficient but if you guys are watching it’s pretty clear the offense sucks. No matter how many prayers we throw in the ocean. The defense is worse for sure but the O is pure garbage

This season's story was pretty much written on the wall from the start. It could have gone a little bit better but the ceiling just wasn't ever there. Since JB went to strictly zone the one formula that worked year after year was that we had lots of long athletic players which resulted in an effective zone defense. When you look at this team its just doesn't fit the formula that has worked for the last few decades.i can't remember, EVER, when a Syracuse team is/was the possibly the least athletic (maybe second behind BC) team in the confrence. The scary part is that the coaches know this. I really don't know what they were expecting.

Do people realize you can’t take away scholarships? A coach can’t just cut a scholarship player.

Can I give this extra likes:
VT’s vaunted 3 point shooters : 29% vs 42% season average.
Even on the boards.
Numerous non-calls against SU leading to the FT discrepancy.
If the call defensive fouls how they should, our offense is better, to be sure.
That sliding travel gets called at every level.

The board is losing it. A lot of fans are placing blame in places after that game that make little sense to me. The offense doesn’t get fixed by changing the roster. Its the same offense it ever was under JB.

You can fill out the roster though.

Unless you think Syracuse basketball is incapable of finding 12 worthy scholarship players that want to play here. and if they truly can’t…..why is that?

This roster situation is an absolute joke. If we aren’t trying to be the best, why should any fans bother caring?

That's my biggest concern. Our best teams have had good bench players and by all reports intense practices, regardless of how much playing time those bench players received. Seems inconceivable to not complete a roster at a school like Syracuse in this time of immediate transfer eligibility.
