Clemson Fan- My Thoughts

Sorry, I've been beaten down to submission.

I'm sorry, but the Carrier Dome is not the loudest venue in College football. I can't believe I actually had to type that, much less defend it.
I'm not sure anyone said it was the loudest venue in CFB (too lazy to go through the thread again). But anyone that underestimates how loud it can be (sadly, too seldom in the last decade and a half) is bound for trouble. Here's hoping the Clemson team underestimates the conditions. We welcome posters from our conference mates. Bad things happen when new ones plummet into d!ckdom. You started fine, but things deteriorated. I get it - it happens when you feel piled on. Just present your views calmly and clearly (see: WoadBlue and Lou_C) and you'll be fine. And TexanMark won't call you names. ;)

Don't believe us... get off your a$$ and get up to the Dome and experience it. Simple as that. As the underdogs, SU is expected to lose. While not always the case, there are times when the underdog steps up and pulls it all together. We've seen it happen in each of the last few years.

Regarding the game itself... Our blitz packages haven't looked as solid as they have the last two years. I think our guys telegraph where the blitz is coming from more this year. That said, they've had two weeks to work on the gameplan and I would assume that the issue has been addressed to some extent. I'm not really all that worried about your speed... our team is faster than it was the past two years and we handed the speedy WVU two a$$whoopings. I would say your guys are probably on a par with those WVU teams when it came to speed, but I'd say your boys have more size than those teams. Oh, and you actually play defense. Nobody here EXPECTS to beat Clemson, nor that SU can do so like it did those teams. That said, we all realize there is a chance. Let's let the game be played out on the field.

Got to respond to this before I go, because it's a great post.

You're absolutely right that you guys have a shot in this thing. If you're gonna blitz, you HAVE to get home, and you have to mix it up. As I said way back when this thread wasn't a cluster****, you really need to be able to get home with 4. NC State did that and they had a chance to win. I'm not sure defensively you guys are quite as fast as them, but you definitely have a better offense. Should be fun to watch. I know you guys are pumped, and I expect Clemson to be in for a battle.

I also think another good talking point is what Venables will dial up for Hunt. He's never seen NFL talent before, so this will be a little like going from the preseason to the regular season from a speed perspective for him. Certainly doesn't mean it can't be done, but Syracuse can't be on the bad side of the turnover battle in order to have a chance.

We used to go trough this argument with the freaking hokie fans. Beamer saying we were playing music on the PA system whike they were at the line of scrimmage while anyone that was there could tell you couldn't have heard anything even if they were. People that say the dome isn't extremely loud whenits rocking are lying or haven't been to the dome.

Ahhhh, this is so much better. And blame can be assigned to both sides. Isn't it much more fun to actually talk football with opposing fans, rather than measuring dongs?

I honestly do not know, how is your front seven? One of the things we have not done nearly enough this year, and it's driving me crazy, is feed the ball to Jerome Smith and let him run it 20 times in a game. He's not particularly shifty but he runs hard and breaks tackles. How are you guys at the point of attack?

the only way this cat is going to understand is to go to the game-
when he cant hear his pig farmer music after the game(win or lose) he will understand-
when he wakes up the next day and his ears still ring- he will understand

its pretty simple.. almost every article that refers to loud stadiums is being done by people too young to have been to most . many people on this site have been to Ok/Mich/UNC/Miami/VT/OSU/WV/FSU/Aub/LSU/NEB/Tenn/PSU/FL because unlike Clemson we have played those teams on the road since the Dome opened.

I have listened to XM the last few days and several coaches mentioned the Dome and how it will be a tough place for Clemson like nothing they have experienced.

It will be loud at the start, the key is will it be loud 10 min in.

i hope they under estimate our o line-those guys started playing with a whole nuther attitude during the tulane game-

i also dont think they understand what hcss brings to the table defense wise- give this guy 2 weeks to prepare;)

I've completely agreed that the dome is a great venue, and obviously a different and unique experience. I'm just unwilling to put it at the top of the ACC with FSU and Clemson. I might could put you in the ballpark of a VT, but I honestly feel like its on par with GT or NC State. This isn't a slight in the least, as you will see when you visit those venues.

Even if it was an "FSU type environment," as I've pointed out, Clemson performed very well down there and the crowd was little to no factor. Add one more year of experience for Tajh, Sammy, and 4 Olinemen, and you can begin to understand why I don't think it will have much effect on the outcome...
Maybe you should ask Frank Beamer of Virginia Tech about the Dome, he thought he would be retired, before he had to come back.

I haven't been. Just as you haven't been to any of the venues that you are comparing it to. It's just my opinion, but based on a lot of people's opinions too. I've actually never seen it rated anywhere near Clemson's to be honest.

I should have never gone down this road :)

I honestly didn't think I was being insulting rating yall in the top half of conference venues before you've even played a game. You also still haven't sold out Saturdays game, despite the #3 team in the country coming to town.

I'm out. It's been fun. I may make another thread tomorrow solely on the X's and O's or something, but will 100% never go down this road again.

I can understand if you guys think I was trolling, but I can assure you that was never my intent. Good entertainment for the past couple hours or so if nothing else :)
C'mon back.

And about the sold out thing - this ain't the South where football is a religion for everyone. There are leaves to rake up here, not to mention Cindy's soccer game (more inside jokes). It's a religion for us (on this board), but not everyone else in the area. It's even tougher for a small private school in the NE. Unfortunately, we have to live with the whole attendance thing. Don't be a stranger.

So. Many. Leaves. Oh the humanity.

Honestly, I rake leaves every year and live 3 hours north of Clemson. Leaves aren't the problem.

I can't believe I read this whole thread and had to wait for page three before beer was mentioned. Shame on you Orange fans!

Palmer, let's get past the noise thing.

Tell us more about your defensive secondary. Are you as inexperienced as some of the magazines make you out to be. I don't think we have the elite weapons to challenge here, but if our coaches see a weakness they might go after it.

Ok, yall have the loudest venue in college football. I've been beaten down to submission :)

Man, this is the best kept secret in the world. A lot of people down my way are going to be heartbroken. I'll break it to them easy. Them 49k boys up north can't be matched!!!

Well, there you go!
Funny though, I'll bet if you asked that Clemson guy on the video he would say that Yankees are loud and obnoxious. Much more so than southerners. Maybe 49,000 of us are really loud and obnoxious.

It's really pretty simple...at their peaks, the stadium with the roof on it is going to be louder than the other stadiums. Period. Nothing else to discuss.

It's not because Syracuse has better or more fans(we don't - not even close either). But we've got a friggin roof on our stadium. So when the stadium is full or close to it, and the fans have a reason to get excited, then it's louder than your stadium or anyone else's.

He likely will... we don't play them for like 5 more seasons... I'm not sure if that game is a home or away yet either.

' that. Dongs it is... Mine might be smaller, but it has a roof(?), which makes it louder than bigger ones. Our coach wants to lock opponents in it until they're begging to get out...and it sells beer.

I just threw up a little.

  • "I can assure you that the stories are not overblown. In my travels, I've been to at least 90 different stadiums for college football games, the two loudest places I've ever been to are Autzen Stadium and at Syracuse in the (Carrier) Dome. It is extremely loud."- Dirk Koetter, Former ASU Head Coach

I'll say this. I had come to grips with not being able to make it up for this game, but this thread has officially reopened that wound. It's going to be pretty great. Really hope we can keep momentum going and can keep up with these guys.

Lets call up that Sports Science guy from ESPN... He'll come up with some crazy statistics and comparisons that I usually find absurd and irrelevant, but maybe that will break into the impenetrable skulls of these people.
Who do I email...

I remember that after VaTech 2000. That was a great/frustrating game.

I'm not here to convince you guys that Syracuse has no chance, or even that Clemson is going to win. It's just not going to be b/c of the crowd. That was the point of my OP.

I was honestly surprised by how convinced your fans are that the crowd is going to be some deciding factor. That's why I brought it up. I'm sorry, but IMO, this team has played in tougher environments and performed well. If you're here to try and convince me that 49k Syracuse fans can be louder than 85k FSU fans, I'm sorry, I'm just not going to agree with you. FSU, Clemson, and other southern schools don't have to use Groupons to convince only 49k fans to show up to watch their team play a top 5 team. We sell out for SC State. And before you tell me it's because you got to be good to get fans to come, SC (who I absolutely can't stand) had 80k in their stadium every game when they were in a 21 game losing streak. That's right, a 21 game losing streak.

People in different regions are passionate about different things. I'm never gonna try and convince you that our BBall crowd will be as good as yours. Please don't do the same to me. We're more passionate than you, and we have 35k more people that are right on top of you as well. Simply having a roof is not enough to put the Carrier Dome on Clemson's level. Sorry, but it's the truth.
the Clemson fans will be blown away on how loud this place can get....if it does stay close the fans will be talking about it for a while

I will concede all things BBall. I love BBall and it's certainly not irrelevant to me. Clemson is not on Syracuse's level in Bball, but yall aren't on our level in football. Pretty straight forward.

But football is #1, even Swofford had to admit that much in his last round of negotiations.
you are so sweet for all those kind words

1. You don't know what you don't know so how can you be so certain and "agree to disagree". Besides, in the face of our uber-scientific breakdowns of the acoustics you should have seen your folly.
2. The heat and noise in the dome will help Syracuse but it will only matter if Syracuse plays out of their minds.
