Clemson Postgame

r.j. godfrey is an animal. 6'7" 250 lb senior with power and awareness . best player on the court yesterday . white is too slight pose any threat to his muscle on either end . only played 11 minutes . and sadly despite one great block kyle was pretty much invisible against their bigs and the inside passing. souare if nothing else did hustle his butt off. has the size but just lacks the skills . too bad we don't have a real big guy coach. second half was basically the donnie freeman show. only reason we kept it close. not crazy about his trey at the end . refs let them play. a lot of reviews for flagrant but gladly none stuck. those complains about the officials note that the fouls were 14-18 . and we were intentionally fouling last 1 st half.( and i don't believe clemson was ever in the bonus second half either). and finally i just don't see any improvement in J.J. 's game over the summer either shooting or game management. he and red and staff are the only constant from last years disappointment . 34 minutes of reckless nothing . can betsey play the 2 and j.j back up point ?

Stop with this out coached nonsense! Players win games! What coaching strategy did Red deploy...or didn't deploy, that had he done so, we would have won? Clemson won because they scored more points than Syracuse. Simple as that. Coaching had nothing to do with that loss. Cuse fans need to recognize that the game has changed dramatically from our glory years. We may never get to that level again and the Coach is a very small part of this dynamic. Players are signing with schools and moving from schools based on Cash!! Our check book can only do so much. Sadly, this is our new norm. The Syracuse Block "S" doesn't carry the Swag that it did back in the heyday of the Big East. High School recruiting is less significant in this NIL/Portal era. We have to figure out how to adjust. More Cash would help...

That has to be a small sample size. No reason not to make a change, unless something miraculous happen.

In the real world, Red would be put on a 90 day PIP (performance improvement plan). He would be required to submit weekly reports on what his plan was to turn the season around. To do that, you need to take a good, hard look in the mirror and swallow your pride.

Does Red have that in himself. Is he able to make changes where needed? Donnie was great yesterday. Everyone else was subpar. What adjustments will Red make for the next game.

Somebody needed one of these for Christmas:

Godfrey definitely posed some problems - Scott was falling out of his seat when Betsey held his own on that one defensive set where he forced him out of bounds.

Soo…yeah. It’s coaching.

Went my first game this year today. Got close enough to see/hear player interaction. Players looked lost on offense and didn’t play with purpose on that end of the court.

Just horrible the difference in the two teams out of timeouts. They abused our players with set plays. We on the other hand did not.

Lots of stuff people have pointed in this thread have been well stated.

I will defend the players a bit. It’s hard to play well without a game plan. And on the offensive end, it is clearly a rudderless ship.

The guy I’m going to defend is Nait. There is no plan to execute. It’s hard to be a point guard, when the other 4 players aren’t running sets or running them correctly. Theres no way he suddenly turned into a dunce. If you give him a good offense to run. He’ll execute it.

At the end of the game Donnie essentially said “give me the ball and get out of my way”. It almost worked.

If there’s no sets to run, it renders George, Kings and Betsy useless. They can’t create on their own. The only players we have that can are Donnie, and Kiyan, and I only trust one of those two. JJ really can’t either, and he’s way too sloppy with the ball to be given the leeway he has. I simply can’t trust a senior that at least once a game dribbles the ball out of bounds like a 3rd grader. I’m sure his teammates notice as well. You can say to reporters “he’s our leader” but I get the sense none of them truly believe it.

The defense is good enough to compete. The offense is inept. And I suspect Englested is responsible for the defense.

Next coach up..,
This is spot on. Four guys standing outside the three point line while one dribbles. Not drive and dishes, no cuts, nothing resembling an offensive set.

Remember how cooney and rautins would just be constantly running all around over and under (let alone at times setting) screens? No way to be an effective PG in this “offense”. Magic Johnson would have less than 5 assists.

So pitiful to watch and know that we all see the exact same things without being the coach and the one guy paid to be the coach doesn’t.

Red is a wonderful human, but an awful in game coach.

And also, I’m not at practice, but during the game, allen griffin does not speak at all to the players or the coaches. He is absolutely disengaged and it’s disrespectful to the players.

Red Watch: he’s down to 6 more losses before he’s terminated.

I wonder if putting Englestad in charge now might actually right the ship.

I know we'd never do that, but... He has HC experience and might be the better option to see out the season at this point with the writing clearly on the wall.
