Clemson Postgame

46 pts in the paint for clemson
24 for the cuse

tried to tell yall the center corps is a problem

but everyone wanted to yell how great kyle is

2nd and 3rd center are not luxury spots on any good team...you need good players there...not just warm bodies

Just a horrific loss.
-our starting guards are laughable. JJ and George were a combined 4-16 from the field with 3 incredibly costly turnovers each. One for 5 combined from three. Both had horrific shot selection. Worse both were terrible on the defensive end, particularly in the most critical parts of the game.. They literally cost us the game.
-meanwhile, Kingz is absolutely underutilized. We don’t do anything to get him the ball. He is the best on ball defender on our team. Yet he plays 28 minutes to JJ‘s 34.
-of course we don’t do anything to get anybody the ball. We bring the ball up and give it to Kyle or Souare at the top of the key which effectively kills 15 seconds on the shot clock because neither one of those guys can do anything with the ball out there. There is nothing approaching ball movement, moving without the ball or proper spacing. Our offense is a complete disaster.
-on the bright side Donnie had an incredible second half. As many of us said repeatedly, it was critical for him to get some run against a lesser opponent to knock off the rust. Of course that didn’t happen. Hopefully the second half will be the guy we see the rest of the year. He has to learn that going to the basket is his friend as opposed to the fall away. But he played with heart and clearly cares. We need him to get drafted this year so he doesn’t leave via the portal so we can get some new blood in the league.
-this was the definition of winnable game. We make the same mistakes every game. Guys are not put in a position to succeed and they’re not held accountable, Rooting for this program is in my blood, but it is beyond exhausting and frustrating.
kingz shuld play in the shooting guard spot and betsey should play small forward

jj to the bench

If only we had anyone who could take that talent and improve it.
Brownell smoked Autry on the high screen and rolls ...I knew they would get their guy free on that last out of bounds play...we need a coach who can run a half court offense...pay Freeman to stay next year, he's too injury prone and slim to be a top draft choice this year, we can pay him more than late round G league pick...build the team around him and Anthony and pay for a center...good ridance to Starling, turnover machine...no one guards his 3 point shot ...they turn and go rebound

Get a new coach who knows what he is doing and a good roster. Honestly don’t care if it includes anyone on this years team or not.

JJ playing the most minutes (especially considering how he played today) is coaching malpractice.

Haven’t read entire thread yet.

Great 2nd half from Donnie and he had a good look to tie it, he rushed it a bit.

Tough game for Kyle overall both ways minus a nice block late.

Too many wasted o possessions and turnovers especially from guards.

Clemson made 2 huge 3s and also got many good looks off backdoor action.

Agreed.

Anyone who doesn't recognize that is not watching the same game. It's really unfortunate, but we can do better with a better coach
I say all the time that I’m not a knowledgeable Xs and Os guy. And yet today I could easily see the vast discrepancy in coaching between the two teams.

There will be a few contrarians who won’t admit Red stinks because he talked to them at events. And they’ll pin things on NIL or facilities or whatever. But it’s very clear he’s just simply not even close to good enough.

Want to pay a guy that’s too injury prone?

I think we have better talent too, but my fear early in the year( before I knew foul shooting would be our biggest problem) was that we would get big boyed too easily. At the time several posters assured me, this would not be a problem . Today We got bullied in the paint, just like we were bullied by some mid majors. We are athletic, but not big and strong enough. The difference in the game was that we could not stop what they do best.

I'd take getting bullied all day to give up 64 points.

The stat line of our starting guards was atrocious.

Two Obvious coaching mistakes today:

Kiyan was getting to the basket and JJ had a bad game. Needed more Kiyan in the second half. JJ played 35 minutes I believe. When someone is that unproductive, JJ getting the most minutes was ridiculous.

not getting Kingz involved. He tends to disappear sometimes, but too much one on one and not enough to get him looks. He only took three shots.

Red simply does not know how to coach. We had the ball with 58 seconds left in the first half. You take a shot with 45 seconds left and then you get the ball back again with at least 15 seconds but probably more. 2 for 1 is coaching 101. Instead, we use the whole clock, George takes the last second three that is off, and we only get one shot, not 2. He can’t even get the simple stuff right

Btw, I really want to know the catastrophic events that would have happened if we had bucked JB and hired an outside hire. Because between the end of JB’s tenure and with Red so far, it’s been pretty awful.

I’m serious - can someone tell me?

I keep hearing how hell would come down upon the earth due to it.

But Syracuse basketball is literally only the memories of years gone by at this point.

I think we’re significantly better with JJ in the bench playing no more than 10 minutes a game. But Red is a loyalist so he’s not going to bench him.

Clemson played as a cohesive unit with excellent passing and offensive sets that create easy looks and we played pick up ball. That, along with Nait and JJ’s miserable offense, is why we lost.

Our margin of error to make the tourney is becoming extremely small.

We would have had a whiny loud mouth retired coach bitching and moaning at any misstep from the new coach.

Looking back it would have suited us better to have single digit wins both of the past two years to get this whole thing in motion before. At least maybe then it doesn’t overlap with Kiyan being here when Red crashes and burns.

Level 5 hopes.
Level 3 results.

It got interesting for a second there, but ultimately we lost out to a team who executed better when it mattered. Worked it in and out for good shots.

We grasped at straws w Freeman there. Hey, stranger. You mind taking this last shot for us?

Different hero.
Same old hero ball.
