CLUELESS

Not sure if her background lends itself to what is needed. Also not sure if the blame falls at her feet or a director under her

Or her

Her background indicates she has been in-house for her career and may not have the external exposure to different things

Falls under Jenn Albanese…….

Ok, and her entire experience and training has been at Syracuse (or the Syracuse Sky Chiefs/ Mets)

She has no external experience or exposure to anything outside Syracuse.
Sometimes a fresh perspective and outside experience is good. We saw the positives of that when we had outsiders who pushed for the quad experience for one. We need to take a fresh start with marketing too.

The same department that gets blasted by some of us for not advertising for the game, posting things misspelled on social media when they do post, is the same department that is in charge of this stuff at the Dome…

It’s all from the marketing department…

In my humble opinion, I believe that a change is needed from the head of the marketing department…………

Marketing should have nothing to do with the awful sound system.

Marketing should have nothing to do with the PA announcer talking too much. He has always been bad, certainly worse than the old guy (Carl Eilenberg). Amazing that no one ever told him to stop acting like he is part of the game or a radio play by play guy.

Marketing shouldn't be able to limit the time given to the band, cheerleaders, Otto, etc. And if they do, whomever gave them that power is the real one to blame.

The other in game entertainment, promotion, and fan engagement stinks. So you can blame Marketing for that. When you look at the background of those people, it is no wonder it feels like a minor league baseball game. Why would we hire internally with no outside experience?

None of these should ever have to fall to JW, but ultimately this is on him for not holding people accountable.

Athletic Marketing at SU oversees all the game in stuff, including amount of time given to band and cheerleaders etc. they plan it all out pre game and there’s a script. But they should know to adjust based on game flow. And someone else should be in charge of it. We shouldn’t just accept that it’s always been lousy so it should continue this way.

But like I said whomever gave them that power is the real one to blame. Why would one think that was a good idea?

I love tradition. That’s what is at the heart of all college sports, I think. At least it was. But can we please cut back on the sing-songy “Let’s Go O-Range….” (Clap, clap, clap clap clap)

Can we please just tell the students that it’s a long-lost tradition (yes, lie to them) that Cuse fans cheer: “C…U…S…E…Let’s Go CUSE!”
No song, just loud cheer. We need it.

Need the cheerleaders to facilitate that along with Otto's Army. I agree.

Agreed. The former is 1980s high school material.

Knew it , your the PA controller aren’t you.

This is the clueless PA controller...

The only time I could clearly hear what was being said over the PA was when I was in the bathroom.

I wasn't at Clemson (family friend used our tickets), but the in-game experience sounds equally awful to the Army game. The entire production needs to be completely overhauled. It's as if they are afraid of silence- you are constantly bombarded with ads, then piped in music that's too loud, then the PA announcer that's too loud, and the in-game host who you can't understand. I mentioned in another thread that we got earphones for my daughter and it was a lifesaver.

Like others have said, I don't mind ads- you have to pay the bills. But this is the first year in the 20+ years I've had preferred season tickets where I've honestly felt everything "around" the game (music, PA, etc) was interfering with the experience. Obviously I'm not as young as I once was- but looking at this thread it doesn't appear as though I am alone in my frustration.

I'll be at UNC this weekend, will be interesting to see the contrast, if any. I imagine some of it will be via the natural difference in an outdoor stadium...

IMO there is a noticeable difference in the amount of time given to the band, cheerleaders, dance team, and Otto. That is part of the college experience. The band should get one solo a Q. The dance team one solo a half. Same for the cheerleaders. Otto is an asset and should be used as much as possible.

And of course fix the sound issues!!!!! It has been what a dozen games and it still sucks. Completely unacceptable.

More and more every year it feels like the experience is designed for people who don’t care about the game or team. Like it’s a minor league baseball game where most people couldn’t care less about the actual team or game and are just there for something to do.

Most of the crowd is actual SU fans. We don’t need to be entertained by noises and activity 24/7. We’re there for the game. Leave us alone and let us be fans. Same thing for hoops.

I actually wouldn’t be surprised if the “experience” that is being brought to people at games is hurting attendance.

I’ve attended several road games. We are the only school it feels that doesn’t look to keep the crowd engaged and rolling during media timeouts etc.

Games at other college venues are far more exciting.

I’ve said before it feels like I’m attending a minor league baseball game when I go to a Syracuse football game. It should NOT feel that way.

We need to demand better, because it’s not hard to do better

It’s the 4th quarter, Allen has just scored, Clemson has the ball there is a time out, Let’s Go Orange Chants are showering from the stands, The very loud Dome crowd is in full voice. At this moment the PA controller decides to crank some music out of the loud speaker, kills the atmosphere within 30 seconds. Unbelievable!

Was it the song that sounded like some 80's rock song but I couldn't make out what it actually was? Who was that for? The three guys wearing Def Leppard jackets?

The gameday operations is and has been a joke at the Dome for a very long time. From the intrusive PA announcer (stop talking when we are lined up and ready to snap the ball!) to the various annoying promotions/sideline stuff to the awful music choices (for the love of God play some relevant music that might appeal to anyone under 40 and actually contributes to hyping up the crowd) to the completely boring hype video/entrance. Toss in the wifi issues, out of town scores and in game stats issues and the still unresolved sound issues and it makes for one giant flaming dumpster.

They're afraid to tap into the younger demographic and college kids in fear of offending the older crowd. That's really what it comes down to when it comes to them playing "Welcome to the Jungle". The biggest football locker room song right now is "Skee Yee" by Sexxy Red. For those of you who watch Hard Knocks, that's what the DJ was playing during the Jets outdoor practice. It is scary how out of touch and timid SUA is when it comes to what's relevant. I don't care if the 60 year olds in the crowd don't like rap. I'm playing this to get the student section and sideline pumped before kick off. They played it at Notre Dame. If they can find music that's "in", so can Syracuse. Pete Sala and Wildhack need to step their curation game up.

100% agree. I'm almost 40 and they're constantly playing music that came out before even I was born. Prior to the team coming out of the tunnel we don't even play any music. Just a boring video that ends abruptly and the team runs out of the tunnel. This stuff shouldn't be this hard.

It shouldn't, but they persist in doing that. SUA needs an injection of youth or a fresh set of eyes.

There are so many play stoppages an commercials that the Wi-Fi should work too. It’s a joke that it doesn’t. We used to watch/stream the games on YouTubetv while at the dome (and then we could watch replays etc during deadballs. Can’t do that anymore.

Furthermore why doesn’t the dome show replays? They NEVER show a replay on a flag call or a review call. Is that in a contract somewhere? Other venues show these things. Why isn’t the home camera showing a replay of the Alford catch on the sideline? No replays of the targeting call either.
Totally agree on the replays and it is super frustrating. When they do show a replay it doesn't show you at all what you want it to show. Why pretend like you showed a replay. If a questionable call by the refs occurs or a bang bang what happened play show the replay. Why not show it? I want to know what the heck happened. Was the catch in bounds or out of bounds? was that a hit to the helmet? Did Wax really hit the dude on the sideline that late after the play was over? You shouldn't have people at the game in the dark regarding what has happened on big plays. Its just dumb and there is no reason that can't show these. Why give fans another excuses to stay home because they have a better idea of what is going on just watching it on TV. Just frustrating and dumb all the way around.

From this week's survey -- the fact that the on-game experience isn't even an option says it all.
