CLUELESS

I used the notes field to elaborate. Then again, I did the last few times and keep reiterating a lights show for a Noon game makes no sense, especially when we can't even download an app because the wifi doesn't work. Can't have a connected app experience till you can actually connect folks.

They're afraid to tap into the younger demographic and college kids in fear of offending the older crowd. That's really what it comes down to when it comes to them playing "Welcome to the Jungle". The biggest football locker room song right now is "Skee Yee" by Sexxy Red. For those of you who watch Hard Knocks, that's what the DJ was playing during the Jets outdoor practice. It is scary how out of touch and timid SUA is when it comes to what's relevant. I don't care if the 60 year olds in the crowd don't like rap. I'm playing this to get the student section and sideline pumped before kick off. They played it at Notre Dame. If they can find music that's "in", so can Syracuse. Pete Sala and Wildhack need to step their curation game up.

If it gets the student section hyped up, that energy would carry through the crowd - regardless of what the music is. Instead we seem to prefer stomping on any organic energy getting generated by the student section because we have a script to follow.

I’ve been going to road games for over 30 years, and I’m inevitably embarrassed by how small time our game experience is. And we’ve been bad the entire 30 years, but somehow managed to dig an even deeper hole in the last three years - everyone else is getting better at crowd engagement; we’re getting worse. It’s like we outsourced gameday management to a local high school AV club with only a vague familiarity with the sport of American football.

I’d say just do anything different, because they can’t possibly make it worse - but I’m afraid the athletic department would take that as a challenge to go lower.

I did the same, tried to be descriptive without being obnoxious- this isn’t the first time I submitted this feedback so I am not really optimistic that anything will change…

Athletic Marketing at SU oversees all the game in stuff, including amount of time given to band and cheerleaders etc. they plan it all out pre game and there’s a script. But they should know to adjust based on game flow. And someone else should be in charge of it. We shouldn’t just accept that it’s always been lousy so it should continue this way.
They need to hire someone who’s produced television…and is trained to understand the flow of the game and be able to change quickly and have support staff willing to change quickly. Marketing people tend to be too programmed and want things to go as scripted.

I actually wouldn’t be surprised if the “experience” that is being brought to people at games is hurting attendance.

I’ve attended several road games. We are the only school it feels that doesn’t look to keep the crowd engaged and rolling during media timeouts etc.

Games at other college venues are far more exciting.

I’ve said before it feels like I’m attending a minor league baseball game when I go to a Syracuse football game. It should NOT feel that way.

We need to demand better, because it’s not hard to do better
B-ball is rough too. And that should be so incredibly easy to get right.

Let the band play more, use the expensive brand new replay board to….show replays, and shut the hell up. It’s not hard.

Maybe it’s just me but I tune all that crap out. I noticed the screeching, have no idea what it was about.

Same here, that's the talk to the friends time, or go to the trough time, or load up on the 16 oz Blue Lights can time.

Every college venue everywhere plays the type of music that you say is for the 'older crowd'. The two venues that are famous for their 'old music' that gets the crowd (and students) going bonkers is House of Pain's Jump Around (1992) at Wisconsin and Metallica's Enter Sandman (1991) at VT.

I don't think it needs to be eliminated, but the spots have to be better and there needs to be newer music as well.

Regarding the survey, I thought it was an amateur like effort at getting info.

When filling it out, I found myself wanting to comment on why I chose a certain answer for many of the questions. That is the sign of a bad survey.

For instance...

I wanted to say I didn't do the light show and the reason was because the cuse app is unusable inside the dome. Love the changes they made to the ticket section that for the first time make it user friendly to get your tickets in your electronic wallet. But the only reason I know that is because I do it while outside the dome, when the app is still useable.

Why bundle the scoreboards and the sound system together? They are very different things. One is awesome and well liked. One is awful and hated.

Why no questions about the food and beverages choices? Why no questions about the merchandise options available at the dome? Why no questions about the cuse app and how the fans like it? Aren't these important parts of the fan experience?

Why did they care what the season ticket holders think of the uniforms the staff wears?

Why ask if people used the text number for notifying dome staff during a game? They should already have that info. All the texts went to the phone number provided. All you needed to do was count the text messages. What would have been helpful is to ask season ticket holders if they know that the text number exists, and for what purposes it should be used. I suspect very few fans do.

Same applies to the guest services question. They should know how many people went to guest services. Ask people if they know where guest services is and what services it provides.

I appreciate that an effort is being made to get feedback from the fanbase on how things are going. That is great.

But this survey was a real mess.

What are they focusing on that drove such strange choices creating the survey?

I am 99% sure they chose questions where they hoped they would to get a good score (and avoided subjects where they knew they were going to get hammered).

If that was the goal, why bother doing a survey period?

I ended up typing in a couple of paragraphs of comments to try and provide some real feedback on things.

Some comments were good. The AC is great. No more saunas on hot days at the top of 302. The scoreboards are great. Maybe not always used well but great. I really like the grab and go concept. It cuts down on wait times and I find the food is warmer and fresher. I like there is more selection for adult beverages (wish they would do that with sodas). The chicken, the burgers and the fries that were added not too long ago are the best things available in the dome. Like the freshly popped popcorn option, even if it is not for me.

Explained I wasn't selecting the light show because the cuse app is unusable in the dome. That shouldn't have been necessary but hey, if we ever have a night game, a working wifi/5G system, and they dim the lights for a light show, I will participate.

Told them the wireless microphone is a major issue and if they can't fix the screeching sounds it always makes, they need to stop using it. People around me recoil whenever Kim Infanti starts talking. It isn't her fault. It is a problem with her microphone. This has been happening for close to a season and a half. Why can't simple problems be fixed?

Overall, I enjoy the game day experience. Love listening to the band. Love the atmosphere.

Here are my quibbles:

My hard bench seat could be more comfortable. That appears to be getting addressed (afraid to see what the cost will be).

The sound system works fine for Mr Excitement. It is dicey understanding what the ref says. Recorded videos are generally a garbled mess. The wireless mic Kim uses consistently produces horrific screeching sounds and must be destroyed at all costs.

Would like more varied food choices. It doesn't matter for me for football because I am always full from the tailgate. But for basketball, I often don't have time to grab dinner trying to pick up the wife and get to the dome on time so we have to get food there. Glad they fixed the wrecked nachos. I don't ate them but I felt bad for those they do. We should have some BBQ options. Salt potatoes. Salad with grilled chicken as a topping option. Cheesesteak sandwiches should be available (beef and chicken). Perogies should be available. A better pizza option should be available, like Pavones or Twin Trees.

I think all this stuff is available for Syracuse Mets games. Why is a small time operation like them vastly better at doing this stuff that SU is?

The wifi/5G situation must be fixed. It appears SU has done all it can for the 5G solution and the carriers need to get their acts together. Might be done for the next home game for my phone that gets Verizon. Excited to see that.

Not sure why wifi still hasn't been addressed though. I don't see where the wireless carriers have anything to do with that. Appreciate the journos covering this issue. Might be worth asking about wifi and what the hold up is on that side in the next update.

I believe the wifi solution is supposed to be for the whole campus, including the parking lots where tailgating happens. Do we have any students on the board who can provide feedback on the JMA wifi solution for the campus and where things stand as of today?

One other thing: I got the opportunity to buy tickets to the BC and Wake Forest games at what appears to be a major reduction in price as thanks for filling out the survey. That was cool. Not sure I will use that link and get extras but it is nice they provided something for fans willing to take some time to provide feedback.

agree completely and well said. Also think this is really spot on:

I am 99% sure they chose questions where they hoped they would to get a good score (and avoided subjects where they knew they were going to get hammered).

Amateur effort to generate “look at the great job we are doing” data for performance reviews.

Those two songs are steeped in tradition at those stadiums. SU Football doesn't have one.

100% agree. I'm almost 40 and they're constantly playing music that came out before even I was born. Prior to the team coming out of the tunnel we don't even play any music. Just a boring video that ends abruptly and the team runs out of the tunnel. This stuff shouldn't be this hard.
I have it on good authority, that SU Athletics has heard our cries!
Behold: Our New Entrance Song!

This gets a mention just for the composer's name alone...

This gets a mention just for the composer's name alone...

I imagine that's what Dino hears in his head as he observes silently from the sidelines.

I wasn't at Clemson (family friend used our tickets), but the in-game experience sounds equally awful to the Army game. The entire production needs to be completely overhauled. It's as if they are afraid of silence- you are constantly bombarded with ads, then piped in music that's too loud, then the PA announcer that's too loud, and the in-game host who you can't understand. I mentioned in another thread that we got earphones for my daughter and it was a lifesaver.

Like others have said, I don't mind ads- you have to pay the bills. But this is the first year in the 20+ years I've had preferred season tickets where I've honestly felt everything "around" the game (music, PA, etc) was interfering with the experience. Obviously I'm not as young as I once was- but looking at this thread it doesn't appear as though I am alone in my frustration.

I'll be at UNC this weekend, will be interesting to see the contrast, if any. I imagine some of it will be via the natural difference in an outdoor stadium...
Our group is beyond fed up with the . Its a horrible experience.

It’s the 4th quarter, Allen has just scored, Clemson has the ball there is a time out, Let’s Go Orange Chants are showering from the stands, The very loud Dome crowd is in full voice. At this moment the PA controller decides to crank some music out of the loud speaker, kills the atmosphere within 30 seconds. Unbelievable!
The PA controller is not very good .the music is all rap all sounds the same...the PA controller needs to be changed out. I would love to take that job...hard rock

Speaking of Wi-Fi, it must be location related. While I had zip for 5g my Wi-Fi was very very strong, never got booted, and was able to do and access anything I wanted on the phone.

the only time i had any wifi was when all people left at half time i could accidentally get an out of town score every few minutes.
