I hope you end up being right.I can say with the utmost confidence that our next coach is Brian Hodgson. Thing are in progress and this will be done and announced once USF is out of the ncaa tournament. It is a job he really wants and he is going to get it.
I don't know for sure but I think we will be very competitive on the money front. We quite frankly, have to be.So between what you and Bulldong have hinted at on the "dropoff" in candidates after Hodg...
Are we?...
I guess the real question is that if Hodg is the top candidate, but we have paypacket and NIL limitations, can we even get him across the line??
- Light on pay packet for quality coach and staff?
- Light on projected NIL to assemble a competitive squad?
- Key donors simply wanting some tertiary tier dark horse candidates that most others would consider not qualified?
- A combination of some of the above?
- Something else?
No quality candidate will want to be setup to fail... And BD saying that may be how gmac is looking at the gig right now is concerning...
They don’t have to make his firing public to contact agents. As long as they extended him the courtesy of telling him it was over.No coach would leave before their season is over. However, they all have agents and SU can start the agent contact stage, or receive interest inbounds as soon as they publicly announce Red has been terminated. Just gives the school more time for conversations and diligence to get to the right person as the next HC.
I think we can rest assured that the process is already under way. They don’t have to make his firing public to contact agents. As long as they extended him the courtesy of telling him it was over.
To be fair, probably has something to do with moving his whole family just 2 years ago. I don’t get the vibe from gmac that he wants to put his kids through frequent moves, and I think he’s happy out hereI think he might. Let's put it this way. I don't think he is going to push for it. We all know BH really wants it. Gerry is on the other side of that. He thinks he can do better in a couple of years.
You said the other donors are lined up for another candidate? Who is the first one?Not the first one.
oldpinepoint is laying everything out. So am I and so is dasher and AZOrangeThis other candidate, will us fans like this candidate or to quote you in another post, make us want to find the nearest bridge?
So what coach who has won NCAA tournament games are you suggesting? That’s my point. For a program looking for a proven coach and an established winner, why are so many folks getting excited about folks who have accomplished nothing in the P4 or the tourney. Any one of these coaches being thrown around is taking a flyer on upside, which is exactly what we did with Red. Let’s not make the same mistake again.
This would be a disaster. He failed miserably during JB’s nine game suspension and after his east coast recruits dried up at Washington, he was horrible. He might be an even worse offensive coach than Red. If he’s the choice, the BOT and administration have learned nothing the past ten years. Hop would not be a serious hire.oldpinepoint is laying everything out. So am I and so is dasher and AZOrange
If it’s not BH it’s most likely going to be Hopkins
I knowI think we can rest assured that the process is already under way.
Hop has certainly been working the phones. No doubt.oldpinepoint is laying everything out. So am I and so is dasher and AZOrange
If it’s not BH it’s most likely going to be Hopkins- not sure why people aren’t connecting the dots
Hopkins wouldn't be a disaster, we could do worse, it's also not an inspiring hire. This university needs to realize it's time to move on from the Boeheim Tree.oldpinepoint is laying everything out. So am I and so is dasher and AZOrange

And there’s some serious backing for him. He’s very likable as we all know. And I love the guy. Gave me my first SU ball boy job. Played a ton of golf with him. And it pains me to say this, I don’t think this time is the right time for him to be the coach. He would endure a lot of what red is going through no matter how good the result is in my mind. And I don’t want to see another guy go through that and have us as fans go through what we’re going through right now if it doesn’t go wellHop has certainly been working the phones. No doubt.
Exactly. U always want the good guys to succeed but a lot of times it doesn’t work out.I'd prefer we not hire anyone that requires every sentence about them to start "He's a great guy, but...".
It's been a long 3 years of that.
Benches clearing brawl to end St. Louis vs.VCU game. Not a good look and it looks like there was a brawl last year also according to one comment.
Thank you for sharingHe started at $1.8m and has small escalators year after year. Think he maxed out at like $2.7 in year 5 with all bonuses in place that were performance based.
Brian Hopkins would be a terrible hire come on.Hopkins wouldn't be a disaster, we could do worse, it's also not an inspiring hire. This university needs to realize it's time to move on from the Boeheim Tree.
Duh. Jay Wright. So what coach who has won NCAA tournament games are you suggesting?
