Coach Search Options after Autry

I don’t think anyone here can even do justice how bad Hops teams were scoring at Washington with good talent. It was all early Hurley UConn teams. They played hard, but they couldn’t shoot and they really couldn’t shoot. Have I mentioned Hop hates shooting and loves the zone? He’d need to completely retool his philosophy from what he did at UW. It was the ugliest offensive basketball I’ve ever seen.
Agreed.

I'm not sure that some people watched enough Washington games to appreciate how abysmal it was, on both sides of the ball.

It depends for me on what hodgson could bring in by way of comparison.

Because I squarely believe that nil donations will come in if The coach demonstrates that they can right the ship, and the product on the court improves.

We've already tried to go down the road of raising lots of money to offset the coaches glaring limitations.

Personally, I don't think it's an either or dichotomy. I think we need a coach who has a proven track record of success, who can get things back on track and get the fan base. Excited again, and then nil will result.

But I don't see the path to success being us trying to outspend SEC teams. I'd rather pick a different lane, and supplement with NIL / the portal.
Oh, but you really didn't answer my question. I know how you feel about the whole thing. What I want to know is does your view change if a candidate like Hop, or Gerry raise a ridiculous amount for NIL. Much more than we are currently getting or will get because once again it's the Saudi Prince who just loves Syracuse hoop. Would have donated before but JB insulted him when he worked at the daily Orange.

Have you watched us this year?

Ha, that premise sounds……half made up. lol.

Hops time has come and passed. Love him as he bleeds Orange but he's not the answer. We need to turn the page and put the accelerator down. Win and the $ will come.

Just for fun, what if Hop could raise 25 million for NIL? Would that change your mind?

Hmmm that is an interesting debate...

What kind of guarantees come on that 25 million?
Is he getting 25 million every year?
Is that in addition to what the school and Vegas tourney will provide?

Depending on those answers it still wouldn't be a slam dunk for me...

I don't really care about this hypothetical. I think. Mike Hopkins got exposed, and the Peter Principle hit him squarely on the head, demonstrating that his top level is assistant coach.

No amount of money is going to change that limited upside. We are currently witnessing a team that was supposed to push another x's and O's challenged coach over the top, but it didn't happen because the coaching held the team back.

I would rather have a coach who knows what he's doing, who also has upside with respect to raising NIL funds, And take my chances with the product on the court bringing the fan base back.

If Mike Hopkins can raise 25 million for nil, then give him boeheim's job.

Agreed.

My wife is a Washington alum and I watched far too many games. Woof.

I love Hop, he and Autry are the first two players I ever met growing up. Couldn’t have been nicer to me. Neither should be the HC.

It's in addition . But like all investors, he wants to see what Hop can do with his donation.

Show the tape to the people making the decision. After watching the tape, they will think Autry is an offensive guru.

I'm having fun with this RF. It's not life and death. But there is a number that we couldn't ignore.

22 mil at Kentucky gets you a 17-9 record just for reference. 30 in the net / 29 kenpom.

That's cool. Like you, I'm tired of the mediocrity. I just had an unexpected medical situation unfold in the last weeks, that thankfully resolved favorably, but could have gone in a different direction. Life is short, I want to see Syracuse basketball be good again.

I'm tired of rationalization, excuses, and people trying to talk themselves into subpar candidates being the right guys to turn things around.

I’m LOLing picturing that guy sitting next to the Axeman in some crowded presser and Boeheim calling him an idiot.

I can say Hop is in play (and another SU alumni) and his ability to raise NIL is his main selling point. I still think it will be an outside hire but he's absolutely in the mix and not gonna go quietly ie NIL

It's in addition . But like all investors, he wants to see what Hop can do with his donation.

Then, based on Hopkins' past history of coaching, I wouldn't risk that even if he got the money, he would be able to maintain a level of coaching that would keep the people giving the 25 million. My thinking is if we stay in-house and spend 20-25 million dollars on a roster and Hopkins fails, then the program is done. We will not be able to raise that money from those people again; the door will be shut. A blow like that could send our basketball program to the level of our football program.

The risk versus reward would be too much. I would rather gamble on a different coach and a different direction.
