Coach Search Options after Autry

At the end of the day all of this is sort of a moot point. The booster funded NIL model is not sustainable but for a handful of programs. Corporate donors have to get involved or their needs to be collective bargaining. I have no idea how this shakes out, but the collegiate sports model is teetering on extinction for many schools.

What about Konrad?

Don't get ill. I think we all agree that is most likely will be BH. Just that it isn't 100% yet.
Who is saying it won’t happen? I think each of us trying to share info believe Hodgson is the clear top choice. Likely to be wrapped up soon.
OK, I'm back off the ledge. Thanks. LOL. Hopefully better sooner than later on this decision. The 1st step needs to happen soon.

I’m a little bummed because for two weeks in April after Easter, I’m going out of the country. It’s during the first two weeks the portal is open. I better be able to pick up this forum or I’m going to go nuts.

I think he could put a tema together that would generate a buzz but I also think SU needs to go outside the SU alumni/coaching tree route. Program and fanbase needs a fresh start.
I think we all agree. I am scared the powers at be let personal relationships get in the way. No one is doubting Hopkins is a great salesman from a recruiting standpoint. It’s the actual basketball philosophy that scares fans. More ISO, more zone, and more non-shooting.

That said I am sure the basketball alumni are all pushing it because they all love him.

So in summary:

-Hodgson with Lally $ and current influence and recent history of quick program turnarounds
versus
-Hop promise of big-time NIL and alum support

Great post

You and me both.

I really like Mack but I think with everything going on (AD and up) it will either be Hop, GMac, or BH, that is if I had to guess with about 3 weeks left.
Option 1 and 2 are viable options. So it’s either BH or bust.

My guess is Lally will have significant influence on this decision. That’s means it will be BH.

it's just so crazy that they decided to turn into pro sports but don't allow contracts

Doubt hop would come back to be an assistant if he is gunning for the HC position. But would that not be a jolt tot he program if Hodgson for head coach and Hop for lead assistant. Hop was a good defensive coach. Not a good offensive coach.

Am I nuts to think it would be awesome to have Hop as the GM?
Honestly, I’m not sure BH would want Hop lurking. And secondly, my biggest issue when hop was here was talent identification. He could close the sheet out of a recruitment, but he undervalues shooters and overvalues athletes. I’d rather find a way to keep Alex.

Pretty sure that if we hire BH, Hop won’t be here.

Hop being back (not as HC) would be awesome, but I think Kline is a great GM for us. We should be thanking him for helping put together our first NCAA Tournament team since 2021, but the coaching staff wasn’t even close to being good enough for that to happen.

And they know it but I don't think they know what to do about it.

This ^, hard to see how they could possibly co-exist. Would be like SU keeping Robinson on staff after the demotion from DC. Just isn't gonna happen
