Coach Search Options after Autry

Can we not equate NIL in the future with this year. The players were there this season. Not the reason we stunk.

And this is why I prefer a tactician over a fundraiser who has poor basketball acumen. We are never outraising Duke, UNC, or Louisville. However we can get good players and have better coaching.

More I think about the more Hodgson checks the most boxes. I would prefer to see a little more coaching success over a few more years but there is going to be projection with any of the candidates. I tend to lean to someone who can flat out coach as opposed to recruiting. Autry was a very good recruiter and look where that got us.

Cooney is the only su player to play in two final fours, and at times was treated like a piranha. Let that sink in.

There are a handful of elite teams. The rest are pretty level give or take. We could have been in that next group.

If Hopkins gets this job it’s the definition of insanity. Another great guy who is not a head coach. There’s a reason he’s an assistant coach in a the NBA and never got another head coaching job in college. Only SU would think he’s head coaching material. I can’t believe this administration is so out of touch.

I’m not concerned. There’s no way they’re hiring Hop as HC. There’s no way they could sell it to the fan base after the way it ended at Washington. There’s a better chance they hire Jay Wright. Part of me subconsciously feels that these rumors are being leaked to make us feel better when we hire someone else-I.e we didn’t get fill-in-the-blank, but at least it wasn’t Hop. If you’re going to go cheaper, go after Luke Murray.

How about Luke Murray hc and Hopkins as the asst? If the school has money why wouldn’t they bring Hopkins back where his wife is from?

Oh no - I don't want him here. He's the Al Golden of hoops. His trick in 2017 would've been elite recruiting, better assistants, and maybe he wins enough with that to keep it going. That's long gone.

We beat out no team. There's no line outside Hubert Davis's door either, for example.

Don't see him reaching critical mass and Hodgson seems to have money lined up.

I disagree. The majority of Syracuse fans aren’t on the boards. Hodgson is pretty inside baseball at this point. How many casuals know who coaches USF or Alabama State or whatever directional school he is from. School probably thinks Hop will ignite local ticket buyers with name recognition and nostalgia in addition to traditional donors. Fran, with all his success in year one, still had problems selling tickets.

I’ve learned today that a program that has a fan base that just produced the highest attended game this year in college basketball despite a bad team is garnering little interest from sought after coaches. I really find this hard to believe.

Opposing coaches knew he was a problem in year one and were glad we kept him for three.

That's why I don't think resources are the impediment some are making it out to be. I think head coaches who know their worth and are confident they can do the job look at the empty dome, look at the tradition, and think I can turn that around quickly -- and then the money will flow.

Respectfully disagree. Not a single player on this team that is projected to be an NBA player or will get all-Conference recognition. And the only portal addition we had serious P4/5 competition for is George.
You can lay that on coaching not developing the players to their full potential, but at best this roster had Top 40 talent and preseason projections mirrored that.

BH will be the right hire if they get him. Like dasher says, if they don’t, buckle up. But I think the JW is making a big mistake by not getting rid of red before the season is over. The sooner it’s done, the more names you would get in the mix. Sure people know it’s coming, but getting the agents on the phone behind the scenes sooner than later can only help. Waiting does ZERO good. Yes red is a friend, but you’re paid to win and when players are getting ejected and you keep losing by double digits, it just isn’t a good thing for the program anymore. And I’m sure red doesn’t want to be there anymore considering he’s basically been told he’s done.

Oh god, when you Llandz start talking about firing him before the end the year, the situation internally must be really bad….

Hop is not in play because he can be had for cheap (consider that part “value -added”), he’s in play because he has the financial support of a significant portion of our boosters. Tell them it’s a bad idea.

In the NIL world we’re in, accumulating dead presidents is a lot of the job.

Now having said that, I think he’s a distant second choice.

That he's second choice is telling.

Maybe Hop could hire a staff that allows him to rebuild his recruiting connections. And it'd be good to have more money. But man, it'd be such an uninspired choice.

I was OK with Red because of the circumstances. I'm not OK with Hop.
