Coach Search Options after Autry

I've never worked in academia, but I've done a few projects over my career with academia. That is, by farrrrr, the slowest moving sector I've ever encountered. I've had academics take a full year to do things that a couple of junior-level analysts could have banged out in a week, tops.

I'm not in any way surprised that the hiring process will take an eternity. These people move at the pace of glaciers.

I work for a county office of education and I will confirm getting anything done when it comes to hiring is like pulling teeth. Everything is a process.

Let’s be objective and mention one of those years was the Covid year where Washington, like NY, had insane restrictions. Fair to call it an outlier due to unusual circumstances????
Syracuse made the tournament and went to the Sweet 16 that season. He went 15-17 with two first round picks the season before.

I’m not so sure Hop would turn off the fanbase. SU has a LOT of casual fans who I suspect would like that hire.

I think it’s a fair counter even if I disagree. His elevator speech to the fans upon the hire including staff , NIL etc has to be a homerun even to the casuals given most everyone knows he failed at UW in a bad way.

People forget this. Most Cuse fans are not like the people on this board.

Most casual fans would turn on Hop pretty quickly he failed to “play meaningful games in March”.

If not sooner.

He’s a decade removed from his east coast recruiting connections.

And was a flop as a HC.

What, exactly, is he selling to croots to get them to play for him?

but like, didnt you two say that it was BH? I assumed that if BH name is making the rounds as a near done deal then they must know who the AD is
I never said it was a done deal. What I said was that I thought, and still do, that BH will get the job. But Hop is making a run at it. It will come down to who is making the decision and what is used to influence them.

Isn’t that the same year Dino went 1-10 under similar circumstances that were brushed away as covid year. Credit to Jim. He’s the goat.

FWIW I don’t even know if Hodgson is a good choice. His resume is OK.

Honestly I’m pretty concerned it seems like it’s him or bust.

I’ll eat these words and own up if I’m wrong but I think he fits this era of college hoops just like Oats does. He would be an injection of youth at the position, just as Fran has been and bring a swagger even if that has negatives in terms of being over the top or seeming like an arrogant .

...which makes me wonder whether that person(s) making the decision (whomever that is) truly understands the urgency of the hire - both in terms of timing (portal, etc) and just basketball/program acumen
Case in point was Penn State. They totally screwed up the timing of their hire and the portal and they fired their coach early and still couldn’t get it done.

He was always my floor choice, and Hopkins is below that, so I am concerned. I have been pretty consistent with saying there are better coaches on the market (compared to BH) that we aren't even talking to or have already been turned down by so that is concerning.

We need a break from JB so bad it's not funny and BH is basically the opposite of everything we have done for the past decade.
