Coach Search Options after Autry

I get what you're saying, but those were two coaches in pro sports from 30 and 25 years ago who were hired into elite teams. Torre was hired into a primo situation with multiple HOFers on a roster built by Gene Michael. Same for Francona. It's gotta be hard to win with prime Schilling, Pedro, Ortiz, Ramirez and Damon. Once those stacked rosters petered out due to age, there wasn't as much success for either.
And Bill B got one of the greatest, if not the greatest qb of all time.

I was justy thinking about failed coaches that went on to become big winners. You guys might be too young to remember the NY papers when Joe Torre got hired by the Yankees. Or the reaction in Boston when Terry Franconia was hired by the Red Sox. Throw Bill B in to that as well with the Pats. People can learn and they can get better. That isn't to say I would hire Hop. I wouldn't. But the amount of Nil that we are talking is eye opening. Is it a sugar high? 100% yes. Is it the long term answer, I think not. But I have been wrong before and so has everyone on this board. The good thing is the answer is coming. Sooner rather than later.
Interesting. On the big NIL # being thrown out there for Hop. Money talks I guess.

However, Am I the only one concerned that in an uncapped NIL market that if we do pour let's say 5 mil more into NIL that there are still several other higher tier NIL programs out there that will throw more into their pot.

Let's just use a hypothetical. Kingz. I think he is universally wanted back regardless of new coach.

Let's just say we're doubling his NIL to get him back, sitting here now I think we would all say done deal, we got him. SMU says nah not so fast we don't want that dude making hitting a buzzer beater on us again, we'll give him triple, and we know they can if they want. The amount of money keeps increasing, the # of top players out there in the portal doesn't

Just feels like the goal post is moving every time we say we have the money.

Can we please get away with this obsession with an all guard assistant coaching staff?

One thing that GMAC got right at Siena is he has Ryan Blackwell coaching forward and Arinze Onuaku coaching centers. Seems to me a former player who is coaching would do the best coaching his position.

I never understood why JB had GMAC, Red and Allen Griffen as assistants. All freakin guards.
Well, Bernie Fine (shudder) did a good job coaching up bigs, and he was what, 5-10. Lots of schools known for theirbigs have coaches who weren’t centers.

There is nothing we can do about that. Just as there is nothing anyone else can do about us throwing a lot more money at our program. And it's a lot more than 5 million.

guys we are at the Doug Marrone stage of this rebuild and bringing in a trusted alumni like Hop is the move. After a trusted member of Hop’s staff gets a chance, then we can go with the splashy mid major hire for 7 years. Trust the process
you're missing how after hop has the job three or four years, we can then hand off to Gerry...

So what you’re saying is Hop is essentially buying the coaching job?
Well, it's not like BH isn't attempting the same thing. And all Hopkins is doing is making the case for why he is the best man for the job. This is what I bring to the table in other words. Just as we all do or have done on any job application.

What does the fan base need to do in order to get Melo to redirect that money to a coach that wins? Never been apart of losing?

I remember reading in the past that Melo might want somebody like Mike Woodson, who is currently working as an assistant with the Kings.

I said in the last couple of days that I can't see the losing side being magnanimous and saying okay, I will back the winning side. You didn't ask if we could get the Lally's to do the same thing you want Melo to do. That is what we need. A situation that whoever wins, the other side will back. I don't see that happening.

I've brought him or Tibs up as options to stabilize the program, but I've come to my senses. I want Hodgson.

Even with money we are going to have to overpay players. Who wants to take a chance coming to a coach that struggled to average 70 ppg playing an offense designed for 1995 where his teams shoot 30% from 3 each season no matter the players. It’s so stupid I can’t even believe it’s got to the point of legitimate discussion. And we didn’t even get to discussing the zone.

Well, I don’t offer money to someone I’m applying to. I would (those days being long past me) try to sell myself on how my strengths fit the position long term. Not “take me and you’ll get some cash infusion short term”’
