Coach Search Options after Autry

Just checked the box score and looks like BH is going to get a road win against Rice. Final score 75-56

Why is this win of importance you ask?

---I had this stat ready for the board for fun, but not that it matters now, but with this win tonight, the South Florida Bulls reach 20 wins for the 7th time in school history. Correct in their 55 year history, they have only had 20 wins, 6 other times, and BH got them to that mark in YR 1.

I am thinking that there is more to this situation than Kiyan. And I won't say anymore on that.
Aha, a breadcrumb. I wonder if Melo wants to be the GM. Steph Curry is the assistant GM for Davidson now—even though he has a pretty demanding day job.

I was thinking along on the same lines. Would it be improper for BH to reach out to Melo? Probably yes, Red still has the job. I would have to think if BH gets the job, his first call would be to melo and try to get those assets delivered to him. Melo couldn't do that now because that would undercut Hopkins. But it just seems that and I might be wrong here, but it seems to me that Hop and Bh are minor players in this game. The real game is between the Lally's and Melo.
Let's go Lally. Clap-Clap-Clap-Clap-Clap.

The one thing I will say, as someone noted probably 10 pages ago now, it has shown me a lot how much our fanbase cares about getting Syracuse Basketball back to where it belongs! Just if the decision makers could realize this, put there differences aside, and come together to put SYRACUSE BASKETBALL where it belongs!
It’s unfortunate that most donors have the “me, not we” mindset

Why would you say that? Because they see things differently than you?
No? Because regardless of who is hired and what you and others have been saying, if one party’s hc is hired the other side won’t donate as much (if anything at all). If they all cared and supported the candidate, regardless of who it is that got the job, Syracuse would be back where it belongs

Serious question that needs to be posed to Mrs. Lally, Haynie and anybody else supporting Lyke. How the hell do you hire an AD that was just fired by Pitt?

Well how are you going to hire a basketball coach who was fired by Washington a couple of years ago and hasn't been a head coach since or involved with college basketball at all?

I would assume that there is some serious talks with his agent and that’s who I see melo talking to at this stage. And just so you know Phil, my choice would be BH as well. At least we can all say (if it didn’t work out), we picked the right guy at the right time. Some will say “he never coached at this level etc etc” but it would cover a lot of bases if they hire him. Hopkins is like Red to me, both are top 5 human beings who love cuse more than anything, but it becomes so complex from PR to donors to everything involved with the fans if he’s the guy. Just my two cents
Thank heavens that Hodgson actually wants the job enough that he’s actually entertaining this poop show. That’s kind of amazing in itself. A lot of candidates might run screaming from this.

Not only can’t she help, but likely a reason we won’t be included.
Can anyone offer insight into why Wildhack is stepping aside at the exact moment we need his leadership so badly? Is it just simply a personal decision as he’s said? Or was he pushed out or had enough or something else? I wish he was staying on another year or two to fix basketball.

So the best I can discern is that we have a real mess on our hands.

Behind the scenes, there are power struggles taking place for all three positions currently open. Chancellor, AD and MBB.

There seem to be competing factions at each position, and there seems to be a clear direction for what I would say is “Team Lally”…which appears to be involved in all three.

Their slate of candidates appear to be:
Chancellor Haynie
AD Lyke
Coach Hodgson
(The last two for sure, not sure about Haynie)

They are opposed on Lyke by some very influential FB supporters.

And they are opposed on Hodgson by Team Melo.(Hop)
Melo will not be outspent here.

I don’t know how this is all going to fall out, but I think Haynie is going to be a winner here.

The AD situation is too close to call.

As is the MBB coach.

The overarching picture here is the Lally’s attempt to consolidate control. I don’t think they’re going to stop until the school is renamed Lally University @ Syracuse.

Let’s just say their name above Melo’s on the basketball facility has been “duly noted”.

I think a Hop - Lyke result would be somewhat of a potential compromise.

As Dash has noted, I don’t see anyway the Lally’s support Hop, nor Melo supports Hodgson.
I’m not sure how much of this is true. You can DM the Lally foundation on X (Twitter) and get a fast response. It doesn’t sound like the Lally’s have a definite plan to get in on basketball, although I know they like Hodgson they also like Hopkins at least on the personal level. I’ve been hearing the BOT / athletic dept isn’t aware of $30 million pledge by alums for Hop so not sure the credibility of that either…

I'd me more concerned that they threaten to pull the remaining athletics complex funding if they don't get their way... That's a big chip in the game.

I don't understand why they would pick a fight with Melo.
That's very bad politics. I don't care how much money they have.
Adam Weitsman, sure, he's not real. But Melo is the brand right now.
