I think I’m feeling a little better about the AD search. No inside info. The ad search committee has tirico on it. I dont think he would let this happen. In addition they have hired a search firm, which dives into candidates backgrounds. I would hope and think they would uncover all the nasty stuff at Pitt on Lyke.

Maybe I’m too optimistic, I’m hoping these two factors prevent Lyke from being the next AD.

Uncover? Like seriously do you think people did not know these things when she was hired? And honestly maybe she was a little too ambitious as it relates to non revenue producing sports? Maybe she has learned her lesson unequivocally. If it is her, she better be football friendly. And real quick. If someone is actually backing that is exponentially football friendly, That is a very good thing. You would think they would realize we need other sources of funding at the same time in addition to them right? Unequivocally. And I am not talking about sources who talked a lot but gave a little. Just a little Subjective / objective thought

I don’t disagree, but if he had capable guards with those two bigs I doubt he goes 15-17. I’ve said from day one is offense was dreadful.

Because he still loves Syracuse. And his kid wanted to come here. I don't tell other people how to spend their money. It has worked for me.

I don't get it. People watch teams like all those Pay Pal Cal UK teams flame out of the tourney, or Rutgers with 2 top 10 recruits last season and SU fans are like, "Man, THAT'S what we need here!" while completely ignoring the existence of well coached teams with sane NIL budgets and coherent identities competing just fine in the modern game.

If we have Hop and $30m or whatever, I fully expect a team of overpaid mercenaries competing with each other for stats as we scrape into the tournament and lose in the first round.

I'd rather have Pikiell than Hop and it's not even close.

I guess the folks with money were not desperate yet.

But reaching for Mike Hopkins is also desperation but not necessary when there are better qualified candidates. This is all so bizarre, and the people allegedly ponying up money for Hop are not based in reality but rather fantasy. Hopefully Tirico or whoever is in charge can see this.

You mean the guy who went 15 and 17 with two top 5 picks, and is on the verge of three straight losing seasons, with one ncaa tournament win to speak of. There was a time where I would have taken him that time isn't now

And for the record as well, if anyone of you are unaware… Hodgson is a terrific motivator who has gone viral multiple times for speeches in the locker room (ex: Buffalo TBT)

He is not some dud who has no personality. I don’t even really think Hopkins has that edge on him at all to be completely honest.

And plays to the crowd and students. He lives in the game not just sits and watches

Can anyone please explain for those of us who are less knowledgeable what happened with Hop in Washington? Why so many have decided he was a failure as a head coach and we would be unleashing the apocalypse if he was hired here?

I know he was his leagues coach of the year his first two years. He went 48-22 those years.
Seems to me that is pretty damn good.

Then came Covid and his record for those 2 years was horrific but I dont blame him for that - there were horrific records all over the country. The two Covid years were a combined 20-38. Again I completely discount all of this.

The next 3 years he went 50-46. Respectable, nothing great.

Since he left Washington went 13-18, and are currently 14-14. This is Red level of ineptitude.

Seems to me there is more going on here than Hop suddenly forgot how to coach.

Listen, I have no problem believing BH is a better coach, as is Scherz.
I also believe GMAC is better than Hop.

But nothing in his Washington record suggests he is the second coming of Red.
You don't win coach of the year in your league, let alone twice, if you are a bad coach.

Again, Hop is not my first choice, or even my second choice.
But if he can bring twice or three times the NIL money as BH, I think he has enough coaching ability to get results and get us back to the NCAAT.

I guess what I am trying to say is I am not going to refuse to renew my season tickets if they choose Hop and the higher NIL.

For one thing, in those first two years when they went 48-22 they only made the NCAAT one, and weren’t rated above 47 in the NET. So maybe the schedule had something to do with that record. And the “respectable “50-46 is similar to what Red has done, but Red’s record was in a tougher league. And I think everyone here agrees we don’t want someone the same as Red.

I think Melo, really most of us watched us compete in November. The warning signs were there though.

I know the pandemonium in this thread is causing people to lose their minds, but this might be over the top insanity... Forget about his mismanagement of a roster with Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper last season, this year Pikiell's squad has followed it up with some eye-sore inducing metrics, including the 5th worst average distance on 2-point shots. That style of offense belongs in the basketball wasteland that is Piscataway, not in Syracuse.
