Coach Search Options after Autry

This is where I’m at. If we can actually land him, possibly due to his NY state roots, why would we pass him up? He’s going to be one of the hottest coaches on the market, and there isn’t as much competition this year in terms of elite or name brand programs looking for new head coaches. This unique opportunity is staring at us right in the face. Are we really gonna mess it up?
Probably a step down for him

Could be wrong, but don't recall seeing this posted. Really good read and covers basically everything about the upcoming coaching carousel
The 2026 men's college basketball coaching carousel guide
This was excellent. Great find. Sounds like LSU wants Wade to return there (but who knows if he’d leave NC State after only 1 year), Porter Moser may get fired from Oklahoma, and Dana Altman isn’t likely getting fired from Oregon (he’s been winning there most years…they were dealing with injuries this year). Cincy is surging so it remains to be seen if they fire their guy. Ohio State might open (sounds like that’s not a given at all) but they might look to Oztelberger first if they do. We really might have an ideal market this year where we can compete for the top coaches like Schertz and Hodgson.

It's a huge carousel and unless Cuse jumps on the lead pony, we could left in the dust.
It may not actually be a huge carousel compared to last year. “Several of the coaches mentioned below have a substantial amount of money remaining on their deals, and schools will be hesitant to pay those buyouts. Word is already starting to trickle out from some schools that are instead opting to raise their men's basketball NIL budget and giving their coach one more season to turn things around.”

Incorrect. She just wanted fans to be less disrespectful toward a colleague and be less negative. She didn’t say anything about Red being retained.
I viewed it as supporting Red. I don’t think she should have gone out of her way to voice her opinion.

Regardless, my point stands that I could care less about her view on who the next coach should be. It’s not like they will be coaching together.

It’s so obvious who the two right hires would be are here. JS & BH. Again, if it’s not one of them, then admin is fully accepting of mediocre basketball. BH is the obvious choice I feel with the upstate ties, and the most upside long term. We all want the next hire to be here in a decade. BH SEEMS like he has the most likely path of that route.

Who's on the #teamHodgson train. Just look at these numbers where USF ranks in all of CBB. Very impressive. Points 9th, Rebounds 2nd, Assists 32nd, Steals 17th, Blocks 39th. The Dome will be rocking. Make it happen.

And USF has a higher KenPom rating than 30+ power conference teams. Give him more resources and he’ll cook.

Interesting tweet about Florida's Assistant Coach. Just shows there are some great minds out there. Red chose not to go that route and hopefully the powers to be don't go with the same old, same old. #teamHodgson

Thanks. Another great find. This is the main line of questioning that Hop needs to be grilled on if he’s a legit candidate. What is your vision for your offense? How does it depart from what you did at Washington? How are you going to execute it and teach it? How will find and develop the players to support said system? Who will you hire to assist in that execution? All the same questions with the defense. I know he’s been in the NBA the past couple of years as an assistant, but I’m still skeptical because the NBA offenses run differently and rely on talent and athleticism over heavy motion and off ball screening. And he’s been head of player development (one of his strengths), not running the offense or defense. Plus he was a players assistant on multiple Olympics teams and still failed to install an effective, modern offense at Washington.

A lot of those raw per game numbers really just boil down to USF playing at a high tempo lol.

Think the guy is a very promising coach though and he is the guy I would be targeting.

The bigger standout is he continues to win and do so with his brand of basketball. Pair that with winning games both in his wheelhouse of being higher scoring affairs as well as the rock fights. Then also punishing weaker teams as well as really digging in during the second half once adjustments have been made.

Obviously he hasn’t made the tourney or a conference tournament to be fair but the speed he’s been able to win at both at Ark St and now USF is impressive. Add that to a portfolio of former players in the league and a system that’s designed to model after the NBA via analytics being used aggressively and you have a modern coach who can win, is plenty young enough to grow and is a great recruiter.

To me going for Hop instead of BH vs say other much closer (in terms of Xs and Os and winning) options is taking Darko over Melo with a NIL cash kicker.

Hop, with his passion and charisma, would make a really good GM or Assistant AD or really anything leadership wise where sales, promotion and energy matter 99 pct vs the tactics being just as important with a HC position.

I think he’s the front runner but I’m not praising him as the 2nd coming. Hopkins is boring and washed up which is a disqualifier for me.

Hodgson is young and hungry which I will always give an edge to in the current landscape of college sports which is a dumpster fire.

Do I think all these metrics and stats and even the wins losses at midmajors mean that BH will be some hall of famer and take us to a sweet 16 any time soon. Thats a big no.

Guess my point is that I’m picking based on potential and who the better coach is between the options we have. I wish we could get better but that’s not where we’re at now.

I really hope SU can hire Jay Wright. He will give Syracuse at least five good years. At least we can recover to a credible program 100%. Any other young coaches have different degrees of risk to sink us lower.
He's not coaching for anyone. Got the sweet TV gig and left because he didn't want to deal with new environment
