Coach Search Options after Autry

Because it would be 2 HC in a row with zero head coaching experience.
I understand that emotional response. But they are two very distinct individuals. JB didn’t have HC experience. That would be 3 without. One was ‘successful,’ one wasn’t. Maybe we’re doing an alternating thing, like with the baldness gene… ‘it skips a generation.’

I love when people say “Pick the right guy” but don’t provide any sort of criteria for what would make that person the right guy.

But when people provide logic for why they don’t want it to be a certain candidate they are just like no, “pick the right guy”

What does that even mean??

Absolutely but don't we have a decent story to tell after what we spent last year? I still don't really understand where we are with NIL compared to other programs.
A source told The Daily Orange SU’s roster this season costs just under $8 million. They guessed that figure places the Orange seventh-to-ninth spending-wise in the ACC.

That’s from their article this weekend. Also the guy from the athletic told the radio guys the same. 7-9 spending in just the ACC is a problem in my opinion still. They need to get to 4-6 most years.

He may already be "signed unofficially" with another program. It is said by many that we reached out, so maybe that deal is with us; if not, then he decided, or we decided, it wasn't a good fit. I think Schertz is the #1 coach on the market, but I don't think he is in play for us.
I can’t imagine what other program can land Schertz. If terms of prestige, Syracuse is the best program or one of the best that is likely to open up, imo. If Oklahoma fires Moser or he decamps for somewhere else, then they’d be competitive with us, and I could see him going there. But that’s it. We know he already turned down KSU (obviously), and LSU may not open up, because the buyout is too big for McMahon. And I can’t imagine in a million years that he would go to Providence or Pitt over Syracuse. If he doesn’t come here or to Oklahoma (or maybe Cincy if they don’t make the tourney), I just don’t see what other program he would consider that’s expected to open, and then I would suspect that he’s back at Saint Louis.

Agreed. But how many boosters, local and alumni donors and corporate sponsors wanted to give $$ to a coach that hadn’t won much in two years? There was probably a lot of skepticism around Red. At that point, he didn’t look like a good horse to bet on. He also hasn’t been a good fundraiser himself, from all accounts. With a new coach and a new and exciting vision, SU should be able to raise more funds for NIL, especially with a new AD whose specialty is corporate sponsorships and partnerships and finding new funding sources. I imagine NC and BH will do wonders for our NIL game, especially if we can start winning right away.

I’ll say this. There is a ton of different avenues the NCAA and Goverment are trying to limit NIL or curb NIL. No ideas if they will, but coaches also may need to find a comfortable home for when the boosters are no longer able to buy teams.

That's actually not too bad in my mind because with a new coach with a lot of promise (and ability to raise NIL as well), we should be able to get to 4-6 in the ACC I would expect. Just think about it, once we show glimpses of what we once were, the support and enthusiasm will be huge. People are starved for a good product on the court.

I’m not interviewing them so how would I know. I want someone who can win and presents a plan. If I get invited to the interviews I’ll have a much better thought on this.

I’m just saying let’s take some candidates off the list because they are assts is really small thinking

I agree but here’s the rub. We dig deep and pull an extra 2 or even 5 mil next year with all the new blood. Awesome. Will SMU just call up the oil billionaires or Miami call up some cartels and then add to 2-5 mil next year too.

Just saying the new blood will help but they need to get real serious real fast. We’re not competing with $’s we’re competing with other programs and they got deep pockets too and their nil machines already humming.

Also the clown up above in the thread saying to just pick the right coach and it will just magically fix everything is a joke. That thinking was part of the problem that got us in the toilet.

We could go hire a hall of famer in his prime and he ain’t making no final 4’s unless we get up to a higher tier of NIL.

To respond to your question from the other now locked thread MSOrange, I have no idea. They are playing coy when aggressive transparency should be the play. Hopefully they are.

Put me down as someone who thinks the whole "$30 million" thing is largely nonsense.
If he loves the program and wants it to succeed, why would he withhold money if he has access to it? Like Tracee to Tony, Hop is neither Melo's blood relative nor his goomar.

I look forward to when $8-9M in revenue to players stops being pointed to as an "issue."

That will occur when we hire a competent coach.
its not an issue to everyone. but it is a question. as it should be. nil that is. not the revenue sharing.
