Coach Search Options after Autry

A source told The Daily Orange SU’s roster this season costs just under $8 million. They guessed that figure places the Orange seventh-to-ninth spending-wise in the ACC.
That's actually not too bad in my mind because with a new coach with a lot of promise (and ability to raise NIL as well), we should be able to get to 4-6 in the ACC I would expect. Just think about it, once we show glimpses of what we once were, the support and enthusiasm will be huge. People are starved for a good product on the court.

I love when people say “Pick the right guy” but don’t provide any sort of criteria for what would make that person the right guy.

But when people provide logic for why they don’t want it to be a certain candidate they are just like no, “pick the right guy”

What does that even mean??
I’m not interviewing them so how would I know. I want someone who can win and presents a plan. If I get invited to the interviews I’ll have a much better thought on this.

I’m just saying let’s take some candidates off the list because they are assts is really small thinking

Agreed. But how many boosters, local and alumni donors and corporate sponsors wanted to give $$ to a coach that hadn’t won much in two years? There was probably a lot of skepticism around Red. At that point, he didn’t look like a good horse to bet on. He also hasn’t been a good fundraiser himself, from all accounts. With a new coach and a new an exciting vision, SU should be able to raise more funds for NIL, especially with a new AD whose specialty is corporate sponsorships and partnerships and finding new funding sources. I imagine NC and BH will do wonders for our NIL game, especially if we can start winning right away.
I agree but here’s the rub. We dig deep and pull an extra 2 or even 5 mil next year with all the new blood. Awesome. Will SMU just call up the oil billionaires or Miami call up some cartels and then add to 2-5 mil next year too.

Just saying the new blood will help but they need to get real serious real fast. We’re not competing with $’s we’re competing with other programs and they got deep pockets too and their nil machines already humming.

Also the clown up above in the thread saying to just pick the right coach and it will just magically fix everything is a joke. That thinking was part of the problem that got us in the toilet.

We could go hire a hall of famer in his prime and he ain’t making no final 4’s unless we get up to a higher tier of NIL.

SMU has to win to get into the Dance more than likely, they will smack us around and end it
Oh ya, that home win was a fluke. Since Red found out for sure he’s gone, we haven’t even been competitive

To respond to your question from the other now locked thread MSOrange, I have no idea. They are playing coy when aggressive transparency should be the play. Hopefully they are.

Put me down as someone who thinks the whole "$30 million" thing is largely nonsense.
If he loves the program and wants it to succeed, why would he withhold money if he has access to it? Like Tracee to Tony, Hop is neither Melo's blood relative nor his goomar.

I look forward to when $8-9M in revenue to players stops being pointed to as an "issue."

That will occur when we hire a competent coach.
its not an issue to everyone. but it is a question. as it should be. nil that is. not the revenue sharing.

I'm just tired of the preemptive excuses/ reasons why we can't be successful. I'm tired of the negative self-talk, and the defeatism before we even try.

There is a reason why nil fundraising was down, and it was because the product on the court was awful.

That was a reaction, not a systemic obstacle. Improve the product, and support will follow.

Which will happen once we hire a competent head coach, and not someone who was congenitally unprepared for the challenges of running a top 25 program, as confirmed by last night's article.

With competent leadership, things can turn around quickly. And I think people will be shocked by how quickly that will and can happen if we hire the right person.

Especially when it has the feel of 30 mill from AW or a large percent of that from AW.

that has nothing to do with anything I've consistently said.
