Coach Search Options after Autry

Super random I have a friend who's a Providence alum and when I asked him who he liked he said Murray, John Becker, and the Yale coach. Doesn't mean much but from a fan perspective seems like BH wasn't on a ton of their radars.

Okay so which insider are we trusting here? Because there’s so much information about what coach goes where and people saying things are done deals.

Who are we trusting and can we all collectively trust them to not spew up nonsense?

Doesn’t matter who it is, just filter out the people who are just yapping

Hodgson only came up and got tons of smoke was because Goodman said it in a recent interview. My guess is BH agent floated all this out there to get Syracuse to cave on one of his demands. Guess on my part of course.

One thing , and I know nothing , that I will toss out there is that if everyone in the donor /whale space starts coming together and the pool of money gets much bigger than expected things can change too in terms of targets and those who might be interested in the job. Total hypothetical but if BB is the star we hope he is - maybe he’s working the contacts and phone lines hard and adding a few more doors to be possible to walk through…

excellent post with one comment. if they chose too, a non football playing school such as providence could allocate close to the $20m rev share to bball. i doubt they'd want to but they do have a lot more flexibility than an su with rev share. could be a difference maker when looking at total funds available (nil + rev share).
Everybody thought the Big East schools would have an advantage in revenue sharing and they do, but they don't have an advantage in NIL as that, at least as it has played out so far, is based on what supporters want to pay. Thus, Kentucky's roster is estimated to be paid $18 to $20 million vs St. John's at $8 to $10 million.

If you hear a school's AD brag about how their school is paying maximum revenue sharing, they are probably behind everyone else on spending as NIL has been the driver of paying college basketball players.

Could USF get Hodgson to agree to an extension? Look if USF thinks they are closer to getting an ACC bid that's the wild card here...

Curry Hicks said he’s heard rumblings and just thinks it’s smoke. Doubt he actually signs an extension

I said this about 3 months ago as well. SLU has two HUGE donors.

Yeah, I think people think that he was making chump change at SLU and would jump at the first high major job available. On the contrary, he was supposedly making $2M/year. The coach before him was making $2.7M, so I have to assume this new agreement with SLU bumps him up to close to $3M/year. Not sure how much more a school like Syracuse could offer, but he's not going from $500k to $3-$4M. Easier to wait it out for what you feel is the best opportunity.

Hodgson is still coaching in the NCAA tournament. He's made it clear he wants to be here. They are just trying to turn up the heat on both Syracuse University AND it's donors to put together a good NIL package. That dude doesn't want to be banished to freaking Providence.
The Hodgson camp definitely understands the leverage he now has. Hopefully, the SU side also knew what was coming (pretty certain they did) and adapted.

I do not want Holloway or Gmac. Calhoun has been waiting for that Cincy job to open. I like Olen but I think he wants to remain on the West coast. He used to coach here at UCSD and from some people I know there he has spoken with Arizona State(and did last year actually too as they debated Hurley's future). Not sure there are $$ to grab the Vandy coach.

This is all thrilling, isn't it?!

My take is that all we’re hearing today is the chatter out of Providence that BH and his agent are open to their offers and they’re making a serious play for him.

For providence there is no backup plan hence the crazy talk for writing him a blank check today.

In the heads of PC people that means they’re locking him up but I’m thinking it’s just a smart move out of the BH camp to get a better payout and resources for wherever he lands.

Syracuse has more options to consider which lines up with comments BB is making today about how they’re moving quickly but there is a lot of options.

Guess we’ll see.
We can send them Autry, he would be a cheap hire.

Yup that is why I said early on Syracuse needed to wrap this up super quick and unofficially officially agree with Hodgson to avoid all this stuff. But it seems we didn't get anything ironclad done now we will have to deal with upping our offers as we adapt to Hodgson changing market.
