Coach Search Options after Autry

He fits the hints, and I know for a fact there were whispers around that one.

If we enquired about a guy who was potentially unobtainable and there was at least some level of hope. I’m sure the current level of dysfunction won’t be helpful in pulling a long shot. Need $ and support for things like that to happen.

Isn’t there a world where NC can take on a special advisory role to BB to appease the football donors?

I will say this about Syracuse/Hodgson...A lot of people that would know have said that Hodgson is #1 on our board and first option to be our coach...

I will take that to be true because it should be and make sense. BUT ...

If we fail to land our #1 coaching target to Providence, that will scream big-time problems within the athletic department. No disrespect to Providence well, it sort of is, we should never lose our #1 coaching option to Providence ever.
We aren’t going to lose him to Providence !

Look at it from the other perspective. Maybe these unobtainable targets are answering the phone because they are more interested in the regime changes happening at Syracuse right now. Alot easier to make promises when you're new to a job than if you've been working the same job for years.

For what it's worth it BB and TJ would've overlapped in Washington around 2015 when BB was Deputy AD at WSU and TJ was an assistant at Washington. Long stretch I know but everything is right now.

If we're talking about compromise candidates so nobody gets their first choice, he would be incredible. He's also more established and successful than other names mentioned.
100%. When I posted earlier in this thread, in reply to someone's list of candidates where TJ would fall on their list, it was because I had heard that whisper. From the same person I heard about Blair from...

I had a feeling that was the case when you posted it! He'd be my 1a to Hodgsons 1b if true

That is... interesting. Also much easier to poach a B12 coach than B1G/$EC. Syracuse would be a bigger stage and should be a significantly more attractive gig than ISU, as long as the position and NIL is fully funded.

bnoro let me know if I need to generate an image of Otzelberger riding a dinosaur into battle.

It’s a higher national profile. For now.

All this NIL nonsense will be legislated. It’s not going to last because the red necks in the senate will realize their sec teams long term can’t compete w some of the bigger money elsewhere (or rather can’t dominate anymore)

We are a national university w massive appeal. We have problems but people in LA know Syracuse. They don’t know Providence
I really hope the Syracuse President and AD aren't thinking this way because the current reality is coaching pay, NIL, and the ability to compete in the conference are what are driving coaching decisions now, not "national profile". The Syracuse decision makers need to provide a plan (financial, support, and commitment) to the coaching candidates to demonstrate Syracuse can and will compete with the top schools in the ACC as Syracuse has not been doing that. Remember, Syracuse has had one top 4 regular season finish in the ACC since joining and that was the first season, 13 seasons ago.

I love the smell of the Board in the morning, that smell, that adrenaline smell

This head coaching search is going to end one day...

Some 17 yrs ago we snagged a really important transfer from Iowa State who was a massive get for us. Wouldn’t it be something if it was another Iowa State “ transfer” to get us rolling again now….

Nobody is leaving a good job to take a risk at SU (since we’re talking about longshots) and then not have any idea if there’s even any NIL. Nobody coaching at a high level is taking that risk.

They have money issues- granted that’s a hot topic and current issue here as well but maybe if BB can get the rich toddlers in a room together and work everything out for all sports including big numbers for hoops with bringing in a bigtime hire that isn’t anyone’s “favorite” but a name no one could argue with we could come in with a much better commitment that could lure TJ away and put this madness to rest we are currently dealing with.
