Coach Search Options after Autry

I know I am. The people making decisions are dumb. He’s terrible. He has zero
clue how to coach modern basketball. He’s JB all over again, but worse.

$$$ and support talks and he has both. Not set in stone but hes absolutely a legitimate candidate.

If it Hop, Wildhack’s statement he put out about the next hire was total BS. This University is not serious and is still living in the past. Hop would be the laughing stock of college basketball. It would be an embarrassing hire.

People thought I was crazy and legit came after me lol. But university could pay him little. He would raise a lot of initial money and there’s a lot of people that feel like he got the short end of the stick and want him to get his shot. Lot of things line up

I just have to laugh. You don’t give 15 million NIL to a guy that’s not a good X and O coach. You give 15 million NIL to a good X and O coach because he needs help recruiting. So we are legitimately giving Hopkins money to fund his biggest asset, recruiting. So who’s going to coach the actual X’s and O’s. This entire thing is just a giant joke.

And to be honest. This is kind of how I knew it would play out the entire time.

Me too. If this were 2016 I’d love for Hop to be our new head coach. But it’s 2026…

Maybe we don’t hire someone. The paid pro version of ChatGPT would only run SU $2,400 a year. Could work.

Or we could do something like the Chicago Cubs did in the early 1960s when they rotated multiple people at manager during the season. Rotating coaches. Everyone gets a turn. Maybe even someone posters from this board. It would really keep the staff on their toes. If the team gets off to a slow start in a big game, you could change coaches at halftime. The uncertainty would keep the fans engaged, and might put the SU brand back on the national map.

One thing I'm curious on with Hop is how is coaching style has evolved from these last two years in the NBA. Similar to Gerry, I'm not sure if he's the best man for the job, but I'd be interested to hear what he'd be able to take from the NBA into the college game.

That's because winning the MAAC gets an autobid. I'm happy for them, and I like autobids. Maybe I'm wrong. I don't think that's necessarily a better resume than winning 20 games in the ACC.

I should add, I wanted Red fired more than any 3 people on this board. I just don't think GMAC is much of an upgrade.

Red won 11 ACC games, not bad, but don’t think he maximized the talent he had. He had ACC resources and budget and more teams from P4 conferences make the tournament and his team didn’t achieve that.

So Melo and his team will give a massive NIL package to Hopkins who is barely a 500 coach at Washington only made the tournament once and hasn't been in college basketball in 2 years but wouldn't give that massive NIL package to the hottest coach in college basketball??

I don't want those people making decisions just like you guys said you didn't want Lally's making decisions because that decision is terrible.
