My perspective on Bryan Blair

The major reason I believe he was hired was to make a fresh start and because he wasn't already in someone's pocket. He did not hold any allegiances coming in like Carp and Lyke. Simply put the board and this special consultant in the end said the best thing we can do is to pick a guy that will probably upset and disrupt everyone equally.

BB is going to tell all the internal groups supporting BH, Hop, and Gmac you know what this is not in the bag for anyone. They'll get a look but with no biases and let's be real that prob didn't sit well with anyone on the hill.

If you take a step back BH, Gmac and Hop are all basic hires, they are family or they are the usual top midmajor angling for a better deal and ready to make the jump to P5. Our fanbase is so desperate for a winner that all we want is the safe choice which really puts 99% of fans into 2 camps BH with his solid record at midmajors or Gmac with his hometown hero status.

BUT that's not how BB is going to see it. He is not in the family nor was he here for the last year or 2 while BH was angling. From his perspective anyone that was here for the last 5-10 years of crap was part of the problem and what they want is probably not the best course of action.

I hope people read BB's bio and his accomplishments, he has been the youngest and first mover on so many things. He was just hired over multiple people that although had flaws they had decades more experience than him and powerful people in their corners. This dude hates the status quo and hearing this how we usually do things...

Right now I hope BB is burning it all down, which is why you hear the panic from insiders and the panic from their insiders and so on and confusion all over. No one knows what he is going to do and maybe that's what we really need right now because the status quo is not working.

Gut feeling . The events of the last 24 hours is complete malarkey. Jeff Goodman and others in the media are not reporting news, they are reporting an agent maneuvering the market, that does not just include and affect Bryan Hodgson, but also Gerry McNamara, you can argue it's affecting Gerry McNamara even more than Bryan Hodgson. The timing on Tuesday Night around the start of the tournament. Before the new AD was even introduced to the public (happening tomorrow right before the start of the 1st round games). That doesn't mean that I think Hodgson will be the coach in the end it's that I wouldn't be surprised if there is a change in direction and it does become him after all. I'll say 5% chance of it ending up being him and this was misleading reporting from Goodman. Point is, I think this is about to get interesting. Jim Boeheim quoted in an interview today, "They need a good coach. A winner. Doesn't matter where he's from or who he is". Jim Boeheim has indirectly given Syracuse the blessing and mostly the message that Syracuse needs to do whatever it takes to win again. Major progress from JB in that department.

I'll say this, it makes no sense to me that Syracuse is lacking resources for a power conference school and it also makes no sense to me that no one has figured out that with all the season tickets they sell, the ceiling for this program that they don't have resources, and don't have an urgency to invest more into it. People love to call out Syracuse as irrelevant and past it's prime, can't be saved, talk down on its prestige, etc. Then why does everyone keep talking about it? Because Syracuse is relevant and news related to it is reaching people. Syracuse is investing. I did not expect that Syracuse would be able to poach a sitting AD at another institution. Quite frankly shocked they were able to do it based on how everyone was talking and thinking.

Are we in for another surprise, poaching another P4 coach, even crazier a former NBA head coach, like when Larry Brown went to SMU. This program despite all its struggles is still getting featured on the big stages (embarrassing themselves), but still getting the platform. Despite the coaching, the supposedly lack of resources, Syracuse was still winning double digit games over the last few years (not an accomplishment, but if your rooting for this program to completely break, you have to try a lot freaking harder). If you believe we have hit rock bottom, I felt that around January of 2025, then leave the negativity at the door. Syracuse should be operating moving forward in basketball with no pressure and expectation. Simply unapologetically about winning. And if they don't, who cares, we've already been defeated. Approach this thing with a house money mentality now.

Apologies if you already shared this, but I was curious if this was a case of what I call “technical truth”.

The scenario I’m thinking:
- Cuse reaches out to BH’s camp and asking what his requirements are in order for him to consider the job.
- BH gives his demands/requirements
- There was some negotiation but, ultimately, Cuse comes back and says sorry we can’t meet those, thanks for your time.

So technically it is true that it never got to the stage of a formal job offer to turn down, but the reality was the job was his if ‘Cuse reached terms BH was good with.

If that was the case, this technicality that no formal offer was made to turn down sounds like ‘Cuse trying to save face IMO.

As frustrating as the rumors are as fans, we have to remember no one really cares that much outside of our fandom. There might be some jokes, but every playing this game of thrones knows what its about.

And this is nowhere near the most ridiculous or toxic coaching searches. Texas A&M's last search was hilarious. Penn State was being eviscerated online for its search this year and they ended up with one of the best possible outcomes for them.

Which do you think persuaded the AD the most: calling BH a goofball, the nickname Baby Shark Hodgson, the nickname The Guppy, or using the ‘angry’ emote on the pro-Hodgson posts????

But seriously folks, we should all be investing in new sunglasses because SU Hoops future is bright!!!!!

I think if it was GMAC or Hop you would hear more rumblings from the Norlander, Goodman’s of the world about them nearing a deal.

Hodgson was the plan. It failed. They don’t wanna keep it in-house and are actively searching around. If they can’t find someone they deem adequate, they will hire Gmac, hence the comments from Norlander giving it about a “50% chance” of happening.
