Coach Search Options after Autry

It's not like ISIS

Some Phil Martelli Jr Info:

"Phil Martelli Jr.’s defensive philosophy centers on aggressive, disruptive pressure, often utilizing a versatile 2-3 zone that morphs into man 2 man to force turnovers and control tempo. His teams focus on high-effort communication, switching to handle screens, and using "touch" techniques to disrupt rhythm, often aiming to create a modern, high-intensity "Havoc" style."

"Phil Martelli Jr.’s offensive philosophy centers on a high-tempo, read-and-react system that prioritizes pace, spacing and relentless attacking of the rim. He emphasizes "concept-based" basketball, teaching players to read defenses rather than running rigid set plays, focusing on four core areas: cutting, drive-and-kick, ball screens, and transition opportunities."
Ironically both he and Red Emmett were
PMJ as a recruiter ---- "is recognized as a rising, high-energy coach and recruiter who emphasizes building genuine, long-term relationships with players and high-character scouting. Recently hired as VCU's head coach, he is adept at utilizing the transfer portal and focusing on recruiting tough, efficient players from winning programs to build competitive, sustainable rosters. "
both he and Red were ejected in the 2022 game vs Bryant for leaving the bench following the Judah induced melee. 🤣

Our equivalent.

few things:

1 - gmac being reds assistant in the only year red did an almost okay job (year 1) - i dont think it was a COINCIDENCE! i think gmac left bc he did the heavy lifting year 1 without the credit, knew red cant handle the job, got out to prove himself and prepare for this moment...

2- i think hiring a semi-competent coach that can handle proper subbing patterns, in-game adjustments, who can actually strategize, talent id, and installing offense and defense more advanced than aau pickup ball...WILL DO WONDERS FOR THE PROGRAM...like lght years better than recent teams

3- the bar really isnt that high for someone to come in and turn this thing around...if you disagree, I think youre underestimating how bad red is as a coach. look at how lousivulle turned things around after kenny payne got fired. red is kenny payne. this isnt the apocalypse. it can turn quickly.

4. can the new hire get a 1 year deal? i think gmac would do well here...he turned around 4-28 Siena (siena! ffs) but he cant turn around his alma mater??? i dont buy it. give him 1 year and assess from there

5. if im gmac, i say no now...let the program fall even further...then kill it at a better school than siena...and watch how SU comes begging and gives him anything he wants...

6. i dont know who these candidates are well enough to say who the next coach should be, but i think a lot of them could do well here
I agree. I think fans will give the new coach some leash as long as they see something different than Red. We want hope. Red appeared lost on the bench from the very beginning and it never got better. It won't take much to have a team perform better than Red did. The bar is very low to show improvement.

There’s not even a place to donate for basketball for NIL. Sure you can donate to SU, but that’s not going to help NIL.
I’m sure this is not allowed but can NIL be attached to ticket sales? Every ticket includes a $3-5 or whatever NIL surcharge going directly to a collective. 18-20 home games, get back to averaging 20k a game and boom, there’s another couple mill for NIL purposes. Who cares what the NCAA says, they’re feckless.

I mean guys Iike tirico and Costas. Those type of guys.
Sure, that’s two guys. You need alum that have created successful businesses making hundreds of millions of dollars, or have risen to CEO of Fortune 500 companies. Doesn’t seem like SU has produced those types of people.

I could be off on this, but I don’t see a ton of people from SU fitting those categories.

SU isn't in a financial mess.

It's just not a natural NIL fit like some other places. NIL generally revolves around a few guys with money to burn, not broad based fundraising to normies that want to pay for athletes.
Mess maybe overstated but didn’t they have some pretty substantial enrollment issues? It was all over news

I think it was Tennessee football. $10 a ticket, 100,000 seat stadium. Easy cash
