Coach Search Options after Autry

I do agree, I think Skinn is a great coach with a bright future, needs to figure out some kind of offense but there is no way they can hire him over Gerry. They are too similar in coaching styles for any explanation to make sense.

George Masons adj offensive rating rank while he's been there...

What I'm most concerned with Gerry is we know he's still ripe as a HC. Given the downward trajectory of the program and how Red's tenure was, will he be afforded longer runway given the place he holds in everyone's heart?

If we don't hire him now will there be an option to later? I don't envy BB's situation but as Don Draper says, "that's what the money is for."

What is it you think "ripe" means?

I, for one, will have no patience with whomever we hire. The whole point of this exercise is to find a candidate who can win starting now.

We need someone who can build an NIL war chest starting the day they are hired. We need someone who can lure premium talent via the portal as soon as it opens.

This is college basketball. We don't have to build an offensive line or something. We need 7 guys for a rotation. And we need a head coach who knows what the hell he's doing - both in terms of program leadership and on court strategies - from day one.

Firm no to Skinn.

Gmac will bring the donors and NIL money which is imperative for the resurrection of Cuse hoops.

FWIW, Martelli did what Hodgson didn’t. Send a P4 school home that was missing its best player.

I really liked what I saw last night. Martelli is a good coach and has 3 very very interesting players he could bring with him that I think could play at the P4 level.

To sell someone other than GMac it will take someone like Martelli or Steele who won games in the tournament. We will see if Groce can get a win today and if Steele can get another. But they can't sell the fan base on anyone beside Gerry without post season success at this point.

Donna Reid is on the phone calling you. The phone is in the hallway.
Had to reuse my Donna Reid reference from a couple of weeks ago.
For many who don't know, Donna Reid was a TV show in the late 1950s/60s and she is the housewife and fits the above scenario time wise.
Every time a coach wears a suit an angel gets their wings.

Let's not forget that Tony Skinn may be on other teams boards or be angling for more NIL as well. If Shaheen jumps Seton Hall does Skinn go back to Jersey.

I have no doubt these guys are on multiple teams lists.

Let's not forget that when we pick a coach it might cascade several other programs choices. We should be at the top of the list.
we are not at the top of the list because we don't have NIL support. NIL support determines the order of "the list". We need to start living in reality. We cant afford the things we want

Hodgson to PC becoming official.

My last time for now...it was real.

not the point, the term used in that post is the point
As someone who has had his life directly impacted on the opposite end of that spectrum - and know with 100% certainty that I was the better candidate - sometimes the truth is the truth. And those things actually do happen.

Skinn has been a fine coach at GMU but has not made an NCAA Tournament despite being 18-1 in non-league (against nobody) this year. And having a league that could have had as many as 3-4 teams in the tourney if things had broken right.

Do not think his resume is as good as even Martelli - who has been a head coach at two spots and been successful. GMac won a league title and took over a program that was in much worse shape than GMU (who had a guy that jumped to Providence and was worthy of that job, on paper at least).
