Coach Search Options after Autry

GMU was 149-162 the 10 years prior to him arriving (though they did finally hit 20 wins again the year before Skinn took the job so maybe were on the upswing and he happened to arrive at the right time?)

He's won 70 games in 3 years.

Gerry took Duke to the end, Skinn beat the pants off fan favorite Scherz.

These are all good coaches being discussed (Gerry, Skinn, PMJ)

I predict we will see atleast 1 domino fall on the carousel within the next hour in the lead up to the Friday tip off.

GT hired their guy
Providence will hire their guy

50/50 on if we announce today

From Skinn's Wikipedia: "Controversy followed Skinn, however, after he punched opposing guard Loren Stokes in the groin with 55 seconds left in GMU's game against Hofstra in the semifinals of Colonial Athletic Association conference tournament."

Since Hodgson's candidacy was sunk by his perfectly legal relationship with his child-bearing fiance, clearly SU won't hire a guy who punched a dude in the nuts 20 years ago.

What I'm most concerned with Gerry is we know he's still ripe as a HC. Given the downward trajectory of the program and how Red's tenure was, will he be afforded longer runway given the place he holds in everyone's heart?

If we don't hire him now will there be an option to later? I don't envy BB's situation but as Don Draper says, "that's what the money is for."

I do agree, I think Skinn is a great coach with a bright future, needs to figure out some kind of offense but there is no way they can hire him over Gerry. They are too similar in coaching styles for any explanation to make sense.

Trajectory doesn't matter when national media and coaches are endorsing the move, so we will have to be patient with Gerry. Square 1, but with a Cuse guy.

I'm surprised with the Skinn rumor, I thought the worst kept secret was that he has his eyes set on Gtown or Maryland?

It makes all the sense...

Skinn - Gets his name out there. I "interviewed" for P4 jobs last cycle
Syracuse - Gives the perception to the fan base of a real national search

others disagree, but I firmly believe that as long as the product on the floor, from start of season til the end, is marked improvement from the previous product, that will be sufficient in year one

If we ran five Fulton kids out there, we're still dancing. Fulton had a major league pitcher (Pete Gray, look it up), and bowling Hall of Famer Mark Roth lives in Fulton. And don't get me started on wrestling. Storied history of sporting excellence.
Mark died a while back. Always a big rivalry with Fulton kids when I was from Oswego. Don't you want to run like five Solvay kids out there. We'd never lose.

George Mason went 3-8 over the last 11 games and scored under 70 eight times.
Let's not forget that Tony Skinn may be on other teams boards or be angling for more NIL as well. If Shaheen jumps Seton Hall does Skinn go back to Jersey.

I have no doubt these guys are on multiple teams lists.

Let's not forget that when we pick a coach it might cascade several other programs choices. We should be at the top of the list.
