Gerry has some intangibles you can’t teach that Red clearly did not have. I’ll be the first to admit Gerry isn’t my first choice and still isn’t. Doesn’t mean I don’t think he would be successful here. To turn around a program that won FOUR games 2 years ago to 20+ wins this year, winning your conference and taking the overall 1 seed to the wire as a 16 seed is saying a lot. Experience wise I’m concerned. Would like a coach that has more than 2 years experience as the head coach at a MAAC school. If you are going to hire a guy like that Gerry would be the outlier I guess. Gerry IS CUSE, obviously knows Syracuse through and through, recruited for Cuse for a lot of years and knows what it takes to win here. He’s a younger coach that from what I heard is very in tune with the NIL landscape. He has players respect, re has the championship as a player to back it up. He’s a GREAT communicator which Red was not and his teams play hard. I don’t care what level of division one basketball you coach Turing a 4 win team to a 20+ win team, winning your conference and probably should have beat the overall one seed in the tourney is IMPRESSIVE. He clearly can coach at the division one level, it’s just that the ACC is a wholeeeeee different ball game than the MAAC. And we won’t know how well he adapts or how well he can coach at this level unless we hire him. The thing that would SUCK the most is if we pass on him and he goes to another P4 school and lights it up….i think that would suck for everyone in Cuse. Fans, former players, admin, everyone. No one wants to see that

I always appreciate your contributions, CuseMan4 (always, respectfully). But, I will say that there aren't many hopes left in the Boeheim coaching tree. Looking at Mike Krzyzewski's legacy, you can find many successful coaches and front office personnel, as well as failures through college and pros. No doubt, what GMAC has accomplished is impressive, and possibly an indicator of really positive things to come. But, it's a big leap of faith, given the lack of identity previous Boeheim players have shown in the coaching tree, and the need to get the program back on track before reallignment. I'll root for GMAC if he's the chosen one, but he doesn't deserve it simply because his CUSE through and through and had an impressive run turning Siena around (plus and impressive half against Duke). I expect ADBB to make the best choice and will support that, but it's not a guarantee that it's GMAC.

This isn't about GMAC per se, but I agree 100% with what you're saying. Brian.

It is not compelling to hear things like:

• "...nobody wants to win more than this guy..."
• "...he bleeds orange..."
• "...he gets his players to play hard..."
• "...he coaches with passion..."

At this point, with our program on a significant multi-year trend of decline, I'd rather focus on more tangible evaluative criteria. But that's just me.

Agree fully but one thing I’ve learned is that in America people spend money on vibes and hype. They don’t spend money on statistics and evaluative criteria.

I’m sick of the family hires for the record but I’m not going to pretend that people will use their brains over their emotions when giving money for NIL.

Schertz has gone to 3 programs, rebuilt them and won. A seasoned HC with real bonfides and clear evidence he can do the business.

GMAC is in his first attempt of doing that with Siena... He's well on his way in that charge, so kudos to him.

We HAVE to have football and bball humming as winners in 3 years time when conference realignment starts. We have already gambled on a young coach on the football side and the jury is deffo out on that...

Really don't think we can make that gamble again on bball at this point in time.

If conference realignment wasn't coming in 3 years, I'd definitely be more

Coaching with passion isn't enough. You have to win.

I'm not rationalizing anything. I'm doing a simple observation of posts on here regarding the side by side snapshot we had yesterday of 2 coaches' teams playing on the same day.
I've long been impressed with Schertz offenses. And I am becoming more and more impressed with GMAC's overall coaching acumen. I'd be happy with either, tho I tend to doubt Schertz actually being interested as well as the funding that'd be available to him compared to GMAC

It was a nice performance. But that’s all it was. Hell, Red beat UNC last year. What did that mean long term? I’ll spoiler it… nothing.

Underdogs play well all the time. It doesn’t mean the coach is qualified to run a P5 program solely because of it. I’m don’t recall Dick Tarrant going on to a successful career after his Spiders beat SU in 1991.

he was spotted a 13 point lead with 17 minutes left. You can justify it all you want but that was a choke job. There were ways to make quick subs to give his main players a quick blow( plan a sub when a tv timeout is about to come to give them a few minutes off)

With that all being said, if we hire a head coach based off of one good half of basketball, they might as well end the program. There is 0 justification to hire him other than he was a great player here. Other coaches have pulled major upsets. Are we looking to hire them?

Other coaches played with passion and won championships, are we trying to hire Bob Hurley? I’m sad this is even a real conversation we have to have.

I think most would agree that Siena lost due to sheer exhaustion and Doty twisting his ankle. Dude was limping badly after the game but kept playing.
They needed 2 decent subs and they would have won. But that is what happens when you lose 2 starters, a sixth man 3 pt/defensive specialist and another rotation player.

Autry knew how to play the game.
There is possibly only one HC who we could assert “has stopped learning” and he recently lost that job. The rest are still learning.

Sorry, man—I’m not really picking on you, just that language. That phrase is just so overworn and meaningless. Coaches are trying to win. It’s their profession. They all ‘study,’ and there is no way to know who studies more than someone else.

Sienna lost because Duke is a vastly superior team. And Duke realized that with a few minutes left in the game.
