Coach Search Options after Autry

Come on thamel, give us something tomorrow
Pretty sure everyone even remotely affiliated with sports is watching games today and tomorrow and not thinking about who’s going to be the Cuse head coach. Late Sunday or Monday morning when the dust settles and there’s only 16 teams left most of which are chalk right now then I think that’s when we’ll get some real news.

It's been said we had an influx of money recently.
It has also been intimated most is for GMAC only.
I dare say that may be the sticking point if indeed Schertz or someone else is SUs top target.
How to get those donors to give GMAC money to someone else.

Does this board have a feature to see who the highest posters are in this thread. I have seen it on other boards, but can't see it here.

Wonder if anybody has hit the 500 mark?
Dude so funny you say that. Everytime I’m way behind I think “I wish there was a way to filter the responses by most interactions” and get through the fluff and BS lol

he was spotted a 13 point lead with 17 minutes left. You can justify it all you want but that was a choke job. There were ways to make quick subs to give his main players a quick blow( plan a sub when a tv timeout is about to come to give them a few minutes off)

With that all being said, if we hire a head coach based off of one good half of basketball, they might as well end the program. There is 0 justification to hire him other than he was a great player here. Other coaches have pulled major upsets. Are we looking to hire them?

Other coaches played with passion and won championships, are we trying to hire Bob Hurley? I’m sad this is even a real conversation we have to have.
they wouldnt be hiring him based on one half. it would be on the 2 year body of work. the duke game was the icing on the cake..

The ending of that game was many things but in no way was it a choke job.
And please tell me who could they sub in? They had only 2 more scholarship players on the bench. Both freshmen, one only 5 10. Strictly end of the bench players.
Never intended to play significant minutes.
It would be like SU subbing in that red headed walkon.

I think most would agree that Siena lost due to sheer exhaustion.
They needed 2 decent subs and they would have won. But that is what happens when you lose 2 starters, a sixth man 3 pt/defensive specialist and another rotation player.
You utilize those two players. Again, it’s a quick sub around timeouts. You’re trying to steal a few possessions.

Comparing scholarship players to a walk on is not fair at all. I’m old enough to remember Gerry’s mentor using a walk on against a much higher seeded Michigan State team. I’m pretty sure he used one in the 6 OT game as well. Sometimes you have to adjust to what you have.

Duke was also down two players but I’m not going to feel bad for them I’m just stating that for the record.

Either way, we cannot make a decision that will greatly impact the future of our program on one game of basketball.

But that would break the 10 year stretch of letting emotion-based decision making rule the program. Seems risky to me! ;)
Stop JB was here 47 years. Should he have hung it up sooner, probably. Next hire Fed, should have been Gerry and we wouldn’t be having this conversation. It was admin’s job to make the call. Family hire nonsense. Gerry is a winner, hoops, golf, ping pong, tea party. And coaching. Gerry is a warrior played that way coaches that way. His players play like their hair is on fire for him. Wake the Zfu..up.

I believe what’s likely is some people have TALKED about donating money. I’m almost certain no one has cut a check recently.

People love to promise money. And people love to suggest they’ll withhold money too. None of the talk matters til the check clears. So we’ll see.

Ok. So Skinn then? Holloway? The ucon assistant Young? B. Hurley? Hopkins?

Emotional decisions rarely work out for the best. When making decisions that involve millions of dollars, you can't let emotions take over. You have to analyze the best options and make a decision without factoring in your emotions.

Emotions are how we ended up with JB staying long
Emotions are how we ended up with Red
Emotions are how we will end up with GMac

All our basketball decision the last decade have been made with emotion, and look where it has gotten us.
Good post and accurate as I’ll agree in so far as this, initially you start with facts, stats and analytics, and in the big picture weighing each and ever factor the weight given to them is the greatest, by far…….the quantitative.

But then when making said big decisions one needs to factor in the nuance, the qualitative variables to help guide the process that may, or may not, affect the final outcome. Eg. all factors are equal in an anticipated move ($ etc), but ur wife likes one area more than the other.

Especially when in this case the qualitative reality considerations of a gmac will DIRECTLY effect the quantitative reality early on (greater jump on of fans, meaning attendance, NIL, $$ brought in early on).

A decision maker does themselves a disservice if they make a big decision based on quantitative data sets solely and only.
