13 roster spots, 3 will be Doty, Moesch, Folefac. 10 other spots to fill… who they are will dictate if this is going to work or not.
Anthony will have a spot 1000000%

Yeah hiring GMAC vs two other dudes who had also never coached in the NCAAT before this weekend is what gets us left in the dust in the next conference realignment. Great take.Going to be their fault when Syracuse gets left in the dust in the next conference realignment and gets relegated to G5 for demanding their guy rather than the best candidates. Idiocy.
What a broken athletic department. Feel bad for Blair, hopefully he gets the chance to make the next hire
I'm not sure about that. I think at the end of the day, what mattered most was the amount of NiL we could raise. I think the number we could get Bh was not acceptable to him. probably not to Schertz either. And reading Thamel, the number pledged to Gerry was so much more that BB felt he had to offer him the job.If Gerry struggled more against Duke this likely doesn’t happen. He just doubled his salary and then some because of a close loss. Ugh.
Gonna be hilarious when Griff is back on staff
I’m not even sure we should bring in Doty, with “all this money” we should be putting together a far better team, one where a “competitor” likely doesn’t have much more than 7th man type roleAgree with this. Should be Doty and thats it
Gerry must be getting rid of most of the current team because there would be no room for anyone else. Can confirm Doty, Folefac, and Moesch will follow.
someone smarter than me help me understand how having players on a MAAC team make SU better? I'm not against Gerry at all, the logic of getting players from Siena isn't computing for me
If he believes in himself and has any competitive nature at all he would take it cause he could blow this up and we become a top ten team again. The challenge is there for him.Which ia why if I were GMAC I’d probably have second thoughts. He’s building something nice and foundational outside of meat grinder.
Are you crazy? Doty is a dawg I want on this roster. I'm not going to say the type of role though, I will leave Coach GMAC to answering that.I’m not even sure we should bring in Doty, with “all this money” we should be putting together a far better team, one where a “competitor” likely doesn’t have much more than 7th man type role
Whoever was named coach, we will always lose players to Nil. So will just about everyone else except a select few. We have money (or so we have been told) but there is another league above that by that select few.As I said when Hopkins was rumored. I. Never once do i want to hear we lost a player to nil.
Being stuck to your past to the point of hiring a coach that wouldn’t have even been a candidate if he didn’t play at the university is what’s going to get us left in the dust. Very thoughtful and insightful response though.Yeah hiring GMAC vs two other dudes who had also never coached in the NCAAT before this weekend is what gets us left in the dust in the next conference realignment. Great take.
Doubled? More than quadrupled itIf Gerry struggled more against Duke this likely doesn’t happen. He just doubled his salary and then some because of a close loss. Ugh.
I'm sure they will care.Anyone that can't get behind this is dead to me.
If he doesn’t get us to the dance in 2 years with all this nil, we’re in big trouble. The good feelings the casual fan has will wear off, the nil will drop, and we’ll remain a middle of the pack ACC team because we won’t be able to afford to buy him out and hire someone else.It means more money than any other candidate by a long shot. It means a fresh start with old money. It means unification between many factions. Gmac is the right choice given the very complex dynamics surrounding SU basketball. Personally i feel very strongly that unless there is an absolute 100 percent that one coach is significantly better than the other that talent trumps everything. JB was a great coach for many reasons but if you listen to him he will tell you that it was and almost always is about talent. In the old world you had to be a great recruiter and have a bag. Jim had a bag and in Hop and before him Rick guys that could really recruit. Once Rick left Gmac couldnt match is recruiting ability. That coupled with a couple of infractions and our talent dropped off the map. The end of Jims run was a nightmare as we all know but that is over. JB still and always will control a large portion of the donor base. They like and respect him. That doesnt ever change as long as they are all alive. Everyone including JW knew that Red was a stretch but it was impossible to go out of house with Jim leaving and it was impossible to hire anyone on staff other than Red. Simply put there wasnt any other choice. This time was different. New Ad new opportunity. Gmac having a great season which he had in spite of injuries and of course the duke game made it very hard to argue against him. Coupled with the support he has for NIL put him over the top.
He loves SU loves the area and will get the kids to play extremely hard. Gmac puts the work in and i think he understands talent, roster building, and most importantly has the IT factor which is great feel for the flow of a game. I think he gets us to the dance within two years and when that happens and the fans come back watch out. I'm all in supporting him.
Ugh...
But this reaction isn't shooting the messenger of Hama. Thank you for that report. Honestly, I think that's what I'm most afraid of.
Even if he's a better coach than red, doing the same thing and hoping for a different result.
He can coach. He made some great adjustments, but a lot of the offense was Shoates or Doty leading an ISO offense. It might as well have been Nait George and JJ.Interesting, so he can't actually coach then
Exactly.. I'm sure the Holloway wanted the job, probably the ex Louisville guy, the ex Illinois guy, the Hurley who was actually good at hoops, maybe more people at that level. Did we really want any of them? I'm pretty confident no one left in the dance entering the weekend wanted it. If that's the case then GMAC's combination of coaching skills and ability to put butts in seats and raise NIL trump all of them and it's not even close. Both things can be right. The question is whether the guys we want actually want the job. A random P4/P5 reference is misleading
Just because they’re coming with doesn’t mean they’re going to be 3 of the startersOh, Jesus. First year should be a blast.
Agree with this. Should be Doty and thats it
I do agree with this. Not right away but he’s a player down the road.Mosech can play.
