If he doesn’t get us to the dance in 2 years with all this nil, we’re in big trouble. The good feelings the casual fan has will wear off, the nil will drop, and we’ll remain a middle of the pack ACC team because we won’t be able to afford to buy him out and hire someone else.

You could say this about every other coaching candidate as well. Except they would be starting with less NIL. I agree Shertz was the highest upside... but he rest of the names we heard was pretty meh.

13 roster spots, 3 will be Doty, Moesch, Folefac. 10 other spots to fill… who they are will dictate if this is going to work or not.

Yeah we have to fill the roster and those 3 will be good soldiers for GMac that know their role.

We have the NIL and those kids aren’t expensive - 3 nice bench optopns, maybe Doty starts

I'll just say this. Everyone I've talked to is positive about it. Family, friends, etc. Most of them never heard the name Hodgson or Schertz even after all this. That's even with me explaining who they are. They didn't even know South Florida and St Louis had basketball teams ha.

This was lazy all there is to it. And like I said all along - THERE WAS NO WAY THEY WERE GOING TO PAY FOR A GREAT COACH.

I’m also annoyed that JB was so involved. It’s ridiculous. No one had any guts. It cost them Hodgson because of him.

With that being said, it probably means a lot to Gerry and his family and I’ll support as much as possible. Congrats to him. Blackwell coming with him unless Siena makes a big offer. Let’s get to work

My concern is his assistants. He has to hire people who have more experience than AO and Blackwell.

Bob, that is why this hire is more important to me and you. We don't have the time to screw around. I figure I have 15 NCAA tournaments left or there about. I can't go 5 years without making the tournament again. And neither can you.

Guys i might have 20 left in me so I'm with you. I do feel good about this. Having played sports my whole life, I have had good and bad coaches. What I know to be 100% true is that talent trumps pretty much everything. Way more often than not good talent will beat good coaching. I have not seen one coach so far during this tournament that i can honestly say based the few games I have watched is a Bonafide better coach than Gmac with the exception of the coach of Utah State who I believe is an incredible coach.

Gmac seems to understand the flow of a game very well. I like his substituions, the way he works the refs, and his read on his own players. We all know that nobody is going to outwork him and that his kids are going to play as a team and play hard. Given the amount of financial support that he is going to get, his ability to judge talent and build a roster i have a strong feeling we are going to be in very good shape. If the money were equal i would probably lean towards the St. Louis guy but not by a landslide.
I'm glad we got Gmac and most importantly the financial backing that is required in today's world.
Can't wait to see the roster he builds.

How is Gerry better than Shaheen? He was coach of the year in the big east!! They have some of the worst nil and still were top 4 in the Big East.

Yes and he also had a 7 win season. And it wasn’t his first.

But it's really disappointing that our program (once great program) could not attract a proven winner currently with a P5 school to take this job. Says a lot.
