Coach Search Options after Autry

Kline isn’t tied to Autry so he’s staying regardless.
Kline staying does change the pool of candidates. I think in a more good way than not. Like it may turn off some guys that have their own guy in that position. However, it may widen the pool of candidates who are very good coaches that have programs who have fallen behind without the GM and infrastructure. Syracuse in 2023 needed a program rebuilder as a higher priority, Autry has kind of done that. Syracuse in 2026, needs a good coach. If Autry can’t do that, get a coach that will succeed with the GM and infrastructure in place.

I agree. Having a GM in place is a good thing Kline is very well connected and can help Syracuse.

If Alex Kline remains in the fold, I think Shaka Smart would be a home run hire. That’s really what is holding Marquette back this season. That’s the thing with this hire, do you need a new coach or new organization? A new coach could be someone that is a good coach, but needs the organization Syracuse has built to remain successful. A new organization is someone who will completely change everything, but is a proven successful program builder and coach in this era.
Shaka stinks.

I put out the conditions I would be ok with if he was the head coach. If Alex staying isn’t part of that then yes it probably isn’t going to work.
He hasn’t won with elite talent either. One pipe dream FF as a bubble seed and a bunch of one and outs. Most overrated coach in board history.

I’m a little surprised Schertz born in Brooklyn is not interested in the SU job per reports. Wonder why Cincinnati would be his preference. Need to open up the checkbook and make it happen.
Cincy job won't be open

Anyone who mentions another coach that is retired should be banned from posting about future coaching candidates. That goes for Tony Bennett, Bruce Pearl, and Jay Wright. I’d add Billy Donovan into that group as well.
At least Nate Oats and Rick Pitino are still in play then, let’s go!

Shaka did not reload in the portal which is holding Marquette back this season. The rumor is that Smart did not want to bring in a bunch of transfers and they didn't. Maybe Shaka's roster building model is outdated kind of like Dabo's at Clemson?

Loves the chili

Schertz willl have better options. Unfortunately, this job has been run into the ground in the past few years.

Similar to the Indiana job in CFB. No decent coach would want to go there or to a BB program that can draw more fans every game than anyone.

Some of you guys need to stop posting ragebait tweets from anonymous accounts of stuff that will never happen. It’s like a dog going into the yard and bringing back a dead bird.

In fairness, dogs do bring back dead birds. Make, dog goes into the yard and cleans up his crap when he’s done.

Why don't we keep Gerry out of the discussion if everybody is going to just dump on him. He'll be a damn good coach for somebody significant someday despite the hate here. And I'm not saying he should be the next choice because I'll admit that I don't know.

Nobody is dumping on him or hating him. Don’t be so sensitive.
