Coach Search Options after Autry

Hodgson is still my top candidate. If our top candidates don't workout, Joe Gallo at Merrimack is starting to get attention. He'd bring the zone back! Gallo probably isn't ready for a program like SU, but he's a name to keep an eye on.
Ick. Zone is an automatic no for me.

Jerry Gallo not Callow lol

(My Cousin Vinny reference)

It’s a bit of a game. Posters throw super random names out there. If one of them ends up as the coach they get to say “I suggested him first” for years to come.
Mississippi Valley St. HC George Ivory.

Sure, the Delta Devils are 1-21, and their only win is over the USCAA men's team from the Mississippi University for Women, but coach Ivory has them playing hard-nosed basketball. They only lost to Florida St by 49 and lost a bitter heart-breaker to Utah Tech in 2OT's.

Also, the former head coach of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, so he checks that box for folks here.

I suggested him first.

I won’t. Total waste of money.

Sorry. My donations to SU will go to my fraternity, remembrance and Newhouse
No argument with that at all, but without a major upgrade in the NIL environment you’re not going to get a up and coming outside the family hire. Hopefully people understand there is more to the solution than to simply change coaches. It’s okay to hope it’s remedied with OPM, but that all it is . Hope.

So how much is everyone pledging to support basketball NIL when the coaching change is made? Post your pledge amount in reply
I know you are just trying to make a point, but why do we resort to asking things like this? It seems counterproductive. Everyone has a different financial situation and buying a ticket to a few games for one person is like giving $100K or more relative to another.

Syracuse basketball has the largest potential for ticket sales in the country and has a top ten history. Die hard fans like you and I and the others on this board have every right to talk about the likely coaching change and hope for the best possible hire regardless of our individual ability to donate. The program was built with a great coach and a fan base that supported the team to the tune of 30,000 plus people a game.

NIL has changed the landscape but we all know that there are good coaches out there and many alumni that have a lot of money. People will support a winner and we need someone who coaches well and can positively affect NIL. The two go hand in hand, and our personal NIL contribution amount should not factor into anything. Wildhack understands this and that is why he keeps appealing to businesses and has stressed the importance of ticket sales. Both are required and both will come with a good coach, whether he be an alumni or not.

Well if you make a splash hire, fans would be more inclined to donate. The problem right now is the Syracuse Brand is stale, you need to get someone who will reinvigorate the program. Paying a little more may help in the long run once the Syracuse brand is back up at the top.

Ah, the ol “you will get what you get ingrates and you will like it” approach. Smart.

His offensive system usually takes a back seat, but he tends to try to run a guard-first system that calls for player and ball movement. Tries to preach layups and 3s like most modern basketball. I see lots of flare screens and weak side action. Most of the 4 or 5 out type offense you see. Would need excellent guard play. You can see he has a system, but players look more focused on defense

The quote that I didn't like is right at the beginning...

"I preach to my guys to my guys all the time, man, if you guys get stops I don't look at me, go figure it out on the other end. That's the reality of it"

I want a guy with a proven offensive system and philosophy. Skinn isn’t that.

We literally have no idea who the next coach will be. There's no indication we have any chance with Schertz. Apparently we're not talking to Hodgson at the moment. Skinn seems to be waiting for the Georgetown job. Yes, it could be one of these guys, but it could also be the field. Makes sense to expand the list.

The donations will flow like water once they hire a good coach. I mean, we’re not even looking to hire a P4 coach. We’re talking Josh Schertz level mid major coach or maybe a step below that. Hodgson or Siddle would be a home run.

I dont buy the Hodgson stuff.

This is bad. At least Skinn a better and more clear communicator than Red and has a personality. But, no, we need someone with more experience.

So now you’re saying that we can’t even get an up and coming mid-major coach? Smfh. Good lord. If Wildhack can’t hit a home run hire here, maybe Anthony Dabbundo’s comments are spot on about the poor leadership.

I hope to one day meet the person(s) who decided to add buyouts to Red’s contract offer & simply ask them “why?”.

Does anyone here think that Red wouldn’t have accepted a contract offer without buyouts when we’re the only P6 school anywhere near crazy enough to offer him a HC job?
