Coach Search Options after Autry

I’m actually okay with Gmac if there is donor support. Another alum I keep hearing is Jason Hart. By numerous folks. I don’t think BH is that great but I think he knows how to coach. Get fearful with him recruiting. But winning solves everything.
Why are you fearful of him recruiting? That’s a strength of his. His nickname on the recruiting trail is the shark. He got a number of top recruits to Bama and might have gotten Donnie to Bama if he hadn’t left for Arkansas state.

Have we leaned nothing?!?!!!

Why on God’s green Orange earth would we artificially constrain ourselves to:

“Former Cuse guard with some coaching experience”
as our candidate pool?

Once again, for the 144th time, with feeling -

Best possible HC candidate.
Pay that man his money.

Wow! Who knew being an alleged "rock star" on a relatively anonymous sports fanatics board could carry so much weight on you. If what you say is accurate, please consider a deep breath or ten for health's sake, and try not to take yourself so seriously here.

Moreover, thank you for displaying some serious restraint. I can only imagine how long it would take for such a recovery/board rebuild by you dropping such destruction here. ;)

Boot this . Too many losers lately taking pot shots at what used to make this board so good. All the inside info. We need to get back to a pay board where idiots who ruin it for the rest of us get booted.

we have several here who don't think it'll be a consideration at all for candidates. i said the same thing you have here, and several shot it down. its one of the first questions most candidates would ask for almost any hc job. it has to be.

It was a silly argument (not yours).

"Hodgson has established himself as one of the top recruiters in the nation across his 11 seasons as a collegiate coach. Most recently, he was ranked by 247Sports.com No. 2 in its basketball recruiting rankings and has been instrumental in the Crimson Tide garnering back-to-back top-10 signing classes in both 2020 (No. 9 Rivals/No. 12 247Sports) and 2021 (No. 9 by 247sports/No. 10 by ).

In fact, of the eight signed freshmen who were members of the Tide’s recruiting classes across his two seasons in Tuscaloosa, all have been four stars or better, including four five-star prospects and three McDonald’s All-Americans.

One of those five stars signed by Hodgson, Joshua Primo, spent the 2020-21 season at Alabama before entering his name in the 2021 NBA Draft where he became the No. 12 overall pick by the San Antonio Spurs. It marked the second-straight NBA Lottery Pick for the Crimson Tide (Kira Lewis Jr. drafted No. 13 overall in 2020), as Primo became the Tide’s eighth overall player drafted inside the top 15 in school history.

“Bryan is one of the best recruiters I’ve been around,” Oats said. “I initially hired him at Buffalo and he quickly proved that was one of the best decisions I made. He was able to get high-level talent, and he’s got an eye for talent. He knows exactly how we want to play so there’s a chemistry there in terms of knowing who we want to bring in and what type of player we need.”

Hodgson blazed a trail to Canada as he signed the first Canadian players in program history – Primo and Keon Ambrose-Hilton – Canada’s No. 1 and No. 3-ranked players, respectively, in 2020. He followed that by getting a third Canadian, Charles Bediako, to ink his National Letter of Intent in with the Crimson Tide 2021. Both Bediako and Ambrose-Hylton were listed as consensus four-star prospects."

No horse in this race, but some fun facts:

Hodgson is 38 years old, Gerry is 42.

Hodgson has only been a head coach for one more season than Gerry.

Both of them are 17-8 this season.

At this point, he's my clear cut #2 after Schertz. Could do a lot worse than him.

You can’t be for real. A 17-8 record in the American is a little bit different than a 17-8 record in the MAAC.
I am for real and they are both 17-8 this season. I found it interesting that they had the exact same record, regardless of context.

Hodgson been an assistant for a nationally relevant program on the rise in Bama
Hodgson is known as an elite recruiter, as shown above, not by word of mouth, but by recruiting services
Hodgson has never had a losing season despite never taking over a program that had a winning record the year before he got there
Hodgson has a top 10 offense in college
Hodgson has won a regular-season division title
Hodgson has now shown to turn around two different programs at two different levels

Gerry has done nothing that compares to any of that besides having a nice second season at Siena a place that has a pretty solid program historically and playing his college basketball at Syracuse. His resume isn't close.

What top tier talent has he got as a Head Coach?

What top tier talent has he got as a Head Coach?

It’s extremely difficult in the NIL era for schools like South Florida Bulls and Arkansas State Red Wolves to recruit elite, NBA-level talent. That said, from watching the games, it’s clear this roster has multiple players who look capable of playing at the P4 level. That’s exactly what I look for in a high-level recruiter at programs with those limitations. It also appears there has been less emphasis on high-school recruiting, which may be a deliberate roster-construction choice. At schools like this, building through the transfer portal often makes more sense given retention issues and the need for immediate contributors at school like those.

----Nelson would be the conference Player of the Year if the season ended today. I believe he’s out of eligibility, but I think he has a legitimate chance to get drafted, particularly if he performs well at NBA pre-draft combine.

----Enis looks like a clear P4-level player. He reminds me of Kingz, possibly more advanced offensively, though not nearly as good on the defensive side of the ball.

----Pinion I think could be P4 rotational piece. He may not be a starter at a high-level program, but he looks like someone who could play meaningful minutes in a strong rotation

That wasn't my question. They are in first place. They must have guys playing well. You said he was recruiting top tier talent. I asked what top tier talent he recruited as a Head Coach?

He’s gotten solid level talent as an head coach at Arkansas State and USF considering the conference level. But as an assistant he has gotten 5 stars. Nate Oates didn’t get top talent as a head coach until he moved up a level to Alabama.
I have no doubt he recruited well with Alabama as an ass't coach. I was questioning the statement that he recruited top tier talent. I just wanted to know what top tier talent he has recruited as a Head Coach. He has a first place team. Obviously, these guys are playing well.
