Coach Search Options after Autry

Chestnut Hill is gorgeous? My son is a student at BC Law and Chestnut Hill/Newton is overly expensive, full of construction, and nowhere to park. They have a Wegmans, but it’s so small and overpriced. Give me Dewitt, Fayetteville or Manlius any day
Ok….so my wife is an academic and as a result we have lived in Baltimore, Chestnut Hill and Charlottesville. I was raised in DeWitt. Here is the deal….the DeWitt Wegman’s is the 2nd Wegman’s in the entire system. It is a bit of a Frankenstein as it has been cobbled together over decades as their model has changed. It is way too large in my opinion and the only thing fun about it is the possibility of running into Jim and Juli Boeheim. The one in Baltimore is nice but too far outside the city and thus we never went there as it just was not compelling enough to make the hike each way and burn up an entire morning. The Wegman’s in Chestnut Hill / Newton has a great wine and liquor store….which was fantastic during COVID. The store itself is competing with Star Market which has a great fish department and made it the default winner for us. Finally the Wegman’s in Charlottesville is new-ish, the right size, really good meat department, bakery and prepared foods. Their subs and sushi are really good. So overall, the one in Charlottesville is my winner today except for booze during a pandemic which gives the nod to the Wegman’s in Chestnut Hill over the other Wegman’s.

I have no doubt he recruited well with Alabama as an ass't coach. I was questioning the statement that he recruited top tier talent. I just wanted to know what top tier talent he has recruited as a Head Coach. He has a first place team. Obviously, these guys are playing well.
Agree and also strongly believe the level of talent will increase as he moves up the ranks.

That wasn't my question. They are in first place. They must have guys playing well. You said he was recruiting top tier talent. I asked what top tier talent he recruited as a Head Coach?

Are you saying that he wasn't considered a top tier recuiter? I don't understand what you are asking or trying to prove? You can't be suggesting that he isn't an elite recruiter because he isn't bringing in top tier NBA talent to those schools right?

Nelson, Enis, and Pinson are all P4 level players that he has recruited to stay at a lower level to play for him.

I want a coach that is going to have an clear offense, but also strong defense that drives a run and gun fast break machine. Let's make basketball fun again!

Composite four star high schooler at Arkansas St. Three of their top four highest rated recruits of all time. Composite four star high schooler and a four star transfer (five star out of high school) at USF. All per 247.

You said he was a top tier recruiter. I asked what top tier talent has he recruited as a Head coach? A rather simple question. The answer I guess is none. He was as an ass't at Alabama. Since he has been gone, they have continued to recruit a high level. I think he is going to be the guy almost by default. I am warning of over rating him.

That is fine. Not what I would call top tier but for them, great. I just asked what top tier talent he brought in as a Head coach. We have two 5 star players on this team. So...

Did you expect him to recruit five-star players at Arkansas State and South Florida?

He had the highest-ranked recruit in Arkansas State history and the third-highest-ranked recruit in South Florida history in his first season.

regardless of the coach i think bama kinda recruits themself with all their nil.

In the NIL day and age, recruiting doesn’t matter as much. However if you can coach and recruit to your system, then you have a higher likelihood of success.

In Bama they went

2019 - 11th (late to the cycle)
2020 -13th
2021 -1st
2022 -2nd
2023 -1st (Yes, Bryan Hodgson was heavily involved in recruiting for the University of Alabama men's basketball program leading up to the 2023 season, acting as a top recruiter and assistant coach under Nate Oats. He was responsible for bringing in major talent, including signing the 2022-23 team's key players, before departing for Arkansas State in March 2023.)

2024 - 2nd (Hodgson starting contacting recruits but other assistants took over when he left)
2025 - 15th (247) - 4th (on3) -19th (espn) - 11th (rivals)

So Bama is having a little dip now that Hodgson isn't recruiting full-time...

I didn't expect him to do anything. I was just asking a question.

I'll be honest, it disturbs me that this is the best that we can do. If it is. For me, it is an uninspiring lot. Unless a certain booster throws say 10 million in to NIL. Then I am all on board.

I have said many times I think there are a few better coaches on the market but Hodgson as a floor isn't bad. He is currently more qualified than GMac and it disturbs me how many are good with GMac being our head coach.
I haven't seen many that are good with that. I know Gerry himself isn't all that good with it.

Alums-plural. Yes.
yep. alum, non-alum. regional, national. i think most, maybe not all, are going to ask about resources/nil available regardless of how they think of themselves as a fundraiser. let's say $10m is the "magic" number. it's a lot easier to get to $10m from $7m or $8m than it is from $5m.
