Coach Search Options after Autry

Why is that a "con?"

Great players / coaches across all sports are often driven, competitive, and petty. Some are nice people, others are not. Even our beloved JB was kind of a weirdo in some ways. That's the nature of greatness for many [not all] in sports.

Unless there are bigger personality red flags, I don't think it should matter much. We're hiring a basketball coach, not a philanthropy chair.
The Venn diagram of folks that loved those traits in JB but have a problem with them in Hodgson would be... interesting.

Skinn's stock has really taken a dip of late. GMU have lost 3 of 4 and 4 of 7 and are currently losing by 7 at halftime tonight. Phil Martelli Jr's of VCU stock has risen-Won 10 in a row. Also did a good job at Bryant.
Good call out on Martelli Jr. He checks off a lot of boxes. They play at St. Louis @ 7pm on Friday. Great opportunity to observe good coaching.

His best player got hurt in the Duquesne game and they haven’t been the same since.

Who? The only injured player I see for them is a guy who averaged 4 points and 15 minutes/game.

Kory Mincy. He’s playing with a taped thumb but he hasn’t been able to shoot or handle since it happened. Runs around like a decoy out there hasn’t been good.

Check out his numbers before Duquesne. (He injured it in the first half)

Mike Hopkins went to 1 NCAA tournament in 7 seasons at Washington. Fans are not hating; those are facts. The fact that he's even brought up as a serious candidate is irresponsible and prompts this discussion. It's exhausting and unnecessary.
you got all that from a 'post mentioning he was into analytics? cool.

I don’t think it was Hop who was being referred to regarding hate. No one was mentioning him as a candidate.

I doubt Donnie’s coming back: he will declare and test the waters. Red’s coaching won’t be held against him. If he doesn’t get good reviews, he’ll go elsewhere.
I wouldn’t be so sure. If Donnie stays for another year in college and we hire Hodgson as our head coach, he might stay. Hodgson was his recruiter at Bama.

Strong brutes who enforce the middle are a thing of the past. Bigs these days need to be able to shoot or be surrounded by at least three players who can shoot. UCLA fans can't wait to be rid of him and whatever conference he's in needs to be severely watered down for him to have the kind of success SU needs to get back to. His style is an antiquated chore to watch and his press conference schtick doesn't work when he's losing (similar to JB's last several years).
That’s an insane take. Mick has had 6 full seasons at UCLA and in his 7th. He’s had 4 tourney bids with a final four which lost to Zags in OT and two sweet sixteens.
They are by no means dominating but are in a place I would love to be in right now.
And yes I know the paint enforcers are a thing of the past but I did enjoy that style of basketball.

Let's not forget the old saying that nice guys finish last. I don't need a nice coach. I need a good coach. As long as not nice isn't abusive.
