Coach Search Options after Autry

I’m watching Colorado State play right now at UNLV and they have such a sweet offensive system with tons of ball movement and off the ball screening. It’s so antithetical to the garbage we run. Their coach is the one , the only, Ali Farokhmanesh. He’s in his first year as head coach after being an assistant there for 7 years.

They shoot over 40% as a team from 3 because they get such good looks. Not sure their defense is up to par but the offense looks like a pain to deal with

Ok yeah sure. Mick Cronin is interested in the Syracuse job. Well sorry Mick, Steve thought you were a stooge because you had an attitude with a reporter asking dumb questions after a complete blowout.
Who cares about your 4x coach of the year awards. Who cares about your 16 tourney wins. Who cares about your 514-240(.682) career record.
You guys kill me with your moral superiority attitudes.
Unlike some people, how you treat people in subordinate positions is something that matters to me. It says alot about your character. Anyone can be all gracious and kind to someone who wields some form of power or influence.

This guy is a known a hole. You want to root for someone like that ? I didn’t have a big problem with his initial dismissal of the question. My issue was his absolute victim playing when he whined about the “raising your voice” as if he were under some form of threat. Absolutely asinine and character revealing .

He’ll be canned soon enough and I want no part of him. He’s won as many championships as I have .

The search committee is doing a poor disservice to the entire Syracuse basketball community if they aren't considering the Mick Cronin's of the world. I've made the comment a few times that most successful coaches have an edge to them. We don't need a nice guy. We need a coach who is a proven winner.
An edge? An edge isn’t clutching your pearls cause a reporter supposedly “raised his voice”. Thats not tough.. that’s weak ass crap gas lighting bs that I don’t want any part of

Mike Hopkins went to 1 NCAA tournament in 7 seasons at Washington. Fans are not hating; those are facts. The fact that he's even brought up as a serious candidate is irresponsible and prompts this discussion. It's exhausting and unnecessary.
Sure let’s do red Autry now. Hopkins is a better coach than red. I would like other candidates first but at least hop got them to the dance.

AD hired a really bad basketball coach. But let’s point the finger at mike Hopkins. If hop was so bad he wouldn’t get a look in the nba

He’s essentially our Quin Snyder

Some people need to chillax. It's almost over. Have a drink...sit back...focus on a hobby...See what happens in March.

You and I are often on the same page, but not on this.

Hop is bad -- really bad. And it isn't "hating" to point that out, just because he's an alum.

His maximum level has proven to be assistant coach. He excels in that role. As a head coach, not so much.

Truly, anybody suggesting he would be a solid candidate to be head coach here needs their head examined.

He's not Quinn Snyder, who has had extensive success as a HC at both the college and NBA level. He's not even Dee Snider.

Agreed. Some people are just meant to be assistants. You see it in all sports

Every sport.

There are great examples of phenomenal coordinators in the NFL with multi-team track record of high level success who just stink as head coaches. And then because they are universally respected and so good at their OC / DC job, they get hired back into those roles, thrive, and then flop again when they try to take that next step.

The peter principle is real.

I know Hop is with the Pelicans and maybe the NBA is a good place for him, but I can't help thinking that if he wanted to try and be a college head coach again if something on the East Coast would be more in his wheelhouse. Not Syracuse but maybe like a UMass or a St Bonaventure.

Okay. Once again, he isn't going to come here for free. And we have to buy Red out. With what money.
The whole buy out thing would be on Wildhack. Why would any business give any inexperienced rookie head coach a multi year contract with no performance stipulations? Syracuse has done this repeatedly to their detriment.

I wouldn’t be so sure. If Donnie stays for another year in college and we hire Hodgson as our head coach, he might stay. Hodgson was his recruiter at Bama.
Guys think really hard if you want another team built around Donnie with a new coach. When the injury bug hits and the momentum gets rolling the wrong way where has he been? Sleeping for 5-10 game stretches at a time.

Talent is great and all and I'm sure some team will take him no questions asked and pay him a ton more than we will. Will they build a team around him? Hell no, he will be a piece, I would argue on some of these top 5 teams he might not even be a starter.

Kingz is a role player you need back and prob Sadiq because of the potential but beyond that take the orange colored glasses off and just look across the portal at the players that we can get in here that have not been part of losing programs and coached by losing coaches

I doubt Donnie’s coming back: he will declare and test the waters. Red’s coaching won’t be held against him. If he doesn’t get good reviews, he’ll go elsewhere.
Think this is probably true, but unless I just skimmed past his name, I don't think he's even on Givony's top 100 prospects right now. I haven't seen a reputable mock that has him getting drafted in months.

Do agree it feels like even if it's not the NBA, he'll have a lot of suitors in the transfer market. Feel like he'll probably make more money in college next season than he would in the NBA.

Really curious to see how much of the current roster leaves assuming we have a new coach next season. In years past, there were nearly 0 players I wanted to keep anyways but for once, that's not the case here. Would love to have Donnie, Kingz, Kiyan, White, and Betsey back. Even George could be fine in a different system.

The Venn diagram of folks that loved those traits in JB but have a problem with them in Hodgson would be... interesting.
When JB was in his prime I think most of us just looked the other way. Winning trumps all.
