Coach Search Options after Autry

Why? Nothing has happened yet.

Because this junk should never be entertained, especially after what we just went through with Red. There should be no mention of GMac or HOP or anyone tied to the program. The fact that this is heading up just like the last fake coaching search is very telling that the powers that be didn't learn anything and are on the path to make the same mistake.

Honestly, the rational part of me says whoever brings the biggest financial backing to the program should have heavy influence over the next HC. It’s a new world and the financial machine matters, maybe even more than coaching, assuming the coach has some level of ability to run a program (Red did not).

I wish we didn’t have rich alums divided over who should coach the team. United resources go a lot further than divided.

Does anyone have insight if Lally and Melo are aligned? I have a feeling they most likely are not.

Just wait until we see who’s in the portal. What do we need? How much is someone worth? Do we have enough money? Are we too cheap? Who stays and who goes? We’ll have lots to talk about.

No. A applicant has applied for the job. He is making his case. That is all this is. You think they should tell Hop don't bother making your case because Red sucked?

Yeah exactly. I actually think this is good. We are finding out there are some big dollars in play and they are fighting to lay it all out there in an effort to improve the state of SU basketball. Let them duke it out and talk money and fundraising and see what happens
Bingo! We may find out we are better off financially and interest wise in restoring our program than we initially thought.

Do these people seem like the type of people to you that will say, well, my candidate lost but now is the time to unite and win this thing? Or, screw them?

Lally and Weitsman absolutely not in relation to each other. Melo we’ll see. I’d hope the university wouldn’t burn bridges with their biggest donor but who knows lol. One thing is for sure: buckle up and get your popcorn ready.

Yes, exactly, you should tell Hop not to bother if he wanted the job, he should have gone to a lower level and found success instead, right now he is just a failed P4 coach. The only and ONLY reason we are listening is because he was an ASST Coach here. Otherwise, his resume is awful. Or are we listening to every failed coach who wants the job?? Mike Woodson next? He has connection to Melo? Let's hear him out. All they have to do is apply?

It never hurts to listen.

Yes clearly the years he put in here mean nothing. Oh and never saying a bad word about a school that screwed him, doesn’t count either. It’s an interview there will be more.

I won't be upset unless it becomes official. I've probably lost a few years off my life stressing about things that ultimately ended up nothing to be stressed about.

But if Lyle-Hopkins becomes official, I can't help but think that rather than considering this the multi-million business decision that it is, the decision makers looked at it like I do the later rounds of my fantasy baseball draft, when I'm just selecting guys to fill out my roster for often very stupid reasons.

Think the biggest thing here is that we're not splitting hairs on the qualifications/resume of the candidates. BH is one of the most sought-after, up-and-coming coaches in the country - Hop was an abject failure at Washington, and the only other program pursuing him is the laughing stock of our conference. The two are not created equal.

I think we likely would be in the same position now based on his history in UW and inability to coach an effective offense.
Agree. He probably wouldn't have gotten screwed out of a chance, but I'm not sure the end result would be any different. His bench coaching wouldn't have been great no matter which coast he was on.

Can’t stress this enough. Boosters need to be educated by our admin on the resumes of Hop and Hodge. These boosters are smart people who have been very successful in their fields. I feel as if they are properly informed on both the ad and coaching positions, these people will want to spend their money on what logically makes sense.

This is also why blowing smoke right now is useless.

Meetings and discussion are just starting (and barely at that). More than likely nothing but backdoor conversations.

When real meetings and conversations are to be had, opinions and decision will hopefully (and they tend do) shift towards logic.

Very similar as the previous football head coaching search. Smoke on this guy and that guy, but when it was time to make the hire, resumes and fit flew to the forefront and it always felt like it was Wildhack’s call more than boosters per say.

Every booster/trustee “likes” this candidate or this candidate. They will all sit down together and the best candidate will be hired.

Side note: If they hire Lyke, yikes. But I don’t thing it will happen.

Also, one more thing. Those trustees who know absolutely nothing about collegiate athletics get wiped shut during these trustee discussions. They talk big until it’s time to actually discuss.
