Coach Search Options after Autry

Would the Nil dry up if we won? That was the basis of my question about the Saudi Prince. If it was Hopkins and the money enabled us to get really great players and we won, would that springboard a lot more Nil money and allow us to continue to be good?
Would we get more NIL in a couple of years if Hodgson wins and continues to win? The Hopkins move sounds like an initial sugar rush that eventually crashes out.

If I think about this as a horse race there may be a favorite or 2, but at this point I’d still probably take the odds on “the field”
Is the "field" good or should we hope that we for the ocean and the shark that's in it?

Jason Hart was the head coach of the G League Ignite in 2023-24 and led them to an impressive 2-32 record (Yes 2-32). They were 31 out 31 in points per game on offense so dead last and they were 25th out of 31 in points per game for defense. Dead last in Off RTG and second to last in Def RTG and again dead last in Net RTG with an impressive -15.7. And he has never been a college head coach...

If that doesn't scream qualified, I don't know what does...I am sure he isn't on the list because he played at Syracuse.

If we are trying to outdo the Kenny Payne Louisville era.

Don’t worry it was just a talent and NIL problem.

I dont think that's it. But you have to imagine they're looking at the finances too. And rev share has had a big impact on the bottom line. You could run things at breakeven before. All of a sudden you have a $20M hit. If someone comes along and says they could raise a lot of money...I think a lot of people would listen.
Richmond does Syracuse budget in ACC payout increases? Each year we get more. Is that $20m minus incremental revenue from ACC? Doing a quick search for example the bump between 2023 and 24 was ~$5m. Does the Athletic department get that incremental to apply to that new $20m? Presumably a similar bump this year.

Maybe (hopefully) I’m wrong, but I get the feeling that the BOT is considering Hop more because they feel he was screwed over when the original JB retirement changed than because they truly believe he is the guy to rectify our current situation.

In my humble opinion the only alum who should be considered is GMAC because he is having success now, albeit at a mid major.
Jason Hart is beyond a joke.

As for Hop, I think he would be better than Red, not a high bar to exceed there but not as good as GMAC partly due to his later years at Wash and the fact he has been in the NBA for 2 years.

Either get a qualified mid major head coach from outside the family or if it has to be an alum, then try to get GMAC.

This could easily get to 300+ pages until the candidate that 99.99% of us want is eliminated in the NCAAT. But, if it's that .01% candidate, he can be named tomorrow.
This could get to 300 pages a lot sooner than I thought. Hopefully the committee does a deep dive and a proper search on everyone being considered and not just the qualifications of graduating or previously working at Syracuse University.

If that's the case, they could hire one of the lunch ladies in the dining hall. Disclaimer: I love lunch ladies and if you get to know them, you might get something extra with your meal.

Yup. The next few seasons, across both football and men’s hoops, will likely determine if SU can compete in the new world of professional college athletics.

I just hope we have the sense to acknowledge if we can’t, instead of stringing everyone along for years and having them throw good money after bad.
I think we know that the end result is going to be at the young adult table. Not the kiddie table but not where the alphas eat. And I agree it will be interesting on how transparent SU is on that settling.

He's a terrible candidate, but that team was also a bunch of egotistical immature bag chasing high schoolers.

if you handed me jason hart and mike hopkins resumes and took away their names/ties to Syracuse

I would respectfully throw them both in the trash

I don't know if BH is the answer.. or if the St Louis guy is the answer... but you can't go in the family if no one is ready to be the guy
