Nothing definite. But I do think hearing about how this sausage is being made is terrible news. There’s no process, just fiefdoms fighting for power. It’s really discouraging.

I might be the only one here but I could care less about the AD. They come and go. As far as I care we should pay Lyke next to nothing and then when the school realizes the mistake she can easily be dumped for cause.

Whoa, Alex have Red a list. Many we don’t know about. Red made final decision on all the players. I love Red but he was myopic. He was locked in on JJ and filled in around him. Like Carney played against men. Never got a sniff. Womack was a drop dead shooter, never saw him. The big cent looked very agile and ran the floor great for a big man. So don’t play any of them when your job is on the line? Go figure

So the best I can discern is that we have a real mess on our hands.

Behind the scenes, there are power struggles taking place for all three positions currently open. Chancellor, AD and MBB.

There seem to be competing factions at each position, and there seems to be a clear direction for what I would say is “Team Lally”…which appears to be involved in all three.

Their slate of candidates appear to be:
Chancellor Haynie
AD Lyke
Coach Hodgson
(The last two for sure, not sure about Haynie)

They are opposed on Lyke by some very influential FB supporters.

And they are opposed on Hodgson by Team Melo.(Hop)
Melo will not be outspent here.

I don’t know how this is all going to fall out, but I think Haynie is going to be a winner here.

The AD situation is too close to call.

As is the MBB coach.

The overarching picture here is the Lally’s attempt to consolidate control. I don’t think they’re going to stop until the school is renamed Lally University @ Syracuse.

Let’s just say their name above Melo’s on the basketball facility has been “duly noted”.

I think a Hop - Lyke result would be somewhat of a potential compromise.

As Dash has noted, I don’t see anyway the Lally’s support Hop, nor Melo supports Hodgson.

The Head Coach at Rice is Rob Lanier who was HC at Siena 25 years ago for four seasons. One of a handful that left with a losing record. Had a nice career as an assistant afterwards as he is a great recruiter. Not a great HC.

Interesting and thanks for sharing. Given early on the messaging perhaps that Haynie liked the West Point AD, I figured he would not be a Lyke vote. I am surprised again coupled with the shared info that Haynie was bigtime "pro athletics ".

That info isn't super solid. just what I heard.

I don't think it has to be a big deal, just a 10-15 minute conversation. I think Melo needs to get a sense of BH as a person because, for Melo, it is personal with his son involved. He trusted Red and he trusts Hop.


And big interviews happen all the time now during the season. Last year, most hires were done before March Madness happened, at least all under the table, and they were not announced before their teams were eleminated but most of the stuff we are talking about on the board now was probably done about this time last year.

I would assume that there is some serious talks with his agent and that’s who I see melo talking to at this stage. And just so you know Phil, my choice would be BH as well. At least we can all say (if it didn’t work out), we picked the right guy at the right time. Some will say “he never coached at this level etc etc” but it would cover a lot of bases if they hire him. Hopkins is like Red to me, both are top 5 human beings who love cuse more than anything, but it becomes so complex from PR to donors to everything involved with the fans if he’s the guy. Just my two cents

If that’s true it’s Sad. The key to the magic kingdom is in the next 3 years. Super conferences are around the corner. SU has to be relevant or end up with no chair when the music stops. Trying to think about what if anything can get me behind Hop.

I would need to see a top 10 portal class come in and be top 4-5 ACC. I’m not dumb enough that the smoke either of these 2 crews are blowing our way is going to get us better than Duke, UNC, or Louisville but we better have better talent than UVA, NcSt, SMU and Miami next year then.

And no what ifs on if these portal guys make big jumps.

We gotta get pretty much the best 1 and 5 available. Not to mention legit assistants.

If I see those things happen with actual top players signing pen to paper to come here under Hop and Melo then maybe I can keep an open mind.

Disagree. If you go with Hop and the big money, go big or go home no HS recruits fo 2027 so portal need to be 1 or 2 in the portal. If you are going to have a dance you gotta pay the band.
