Coach Search Options after Autry

Is this a serious question? You can spend the interest or dividends for special projects. But you don't touch the principal. If you do, sooner or later, sooner I think, you won't have that principal.

I get that but it's a billion dollars. The original question was why not just dip in one time for 20 mil (1%) to get the hoops program ship righted. Now obviously you don't want to drain it.

You could spend 20 million every 5 years and it would take what, 200 years to spend it all and that's with no interest ?

Carparelli and Under Armour gave Hodgson the 30 under 30 award after the 15-16 season. This was after Nate Oats first season at UB. For reference, they finished slightly above .500 and were 10-8 in the MAC. Three years later (18-19) Buffalo was a top 25 team all season, beat Syracuse, and won an NCAA tournament game. Both left for Alabama after.

My point. Carparelli was onto him and Oats before many many people.

If he recognized his talent then… imagine now.

Guys, the search has been happening behind the scenes. That’s how this works every cycle. It’s not something that we start as soon as Red is fired.
Probably somewhat, but we have had a lame duck AD.

Seeing how the season is finishing out so far I am not seeing much distance at all between Schertz and Hodgson.
It’s true and Hodgson may be the better fit for Syracuse. Schertz is great too, but I’ve pretty much have come to the conclusion that Hodgson needs to be the first full court press candidate. Just now the field of 68, Goodman and Dauster were talking about Providence and they were saying Hodgson should be number 1 for them even before Schertz because of the fit from a culture perspective. Goodman also points out that South Florida had a 1/4 of the Memphis budget this season. Goodman does say though that Hodgson might have Syracuse on the table and others.

Not related to your post, and you have probably already seen this, but...

"The Bulls checked in Monday at a program-best No. 48. To give you some perspective, the breakthough 25-8 season crafted by the late Amir Abdur-Rahim two years ago only earned the Bulls a NET ranking of 78."

Bulls NET

He is pretty clearly the choice that is high on people's lists and the most attainable and has the chance to make the most immediate impact.

I am sure we will start to hear Hodgson's name come up more often now, especially for East Coast jobs. Syracuse would be in the driver's seat, but there will be competiton they need to be prepared.

**Nobody saw this comment** LOL

I think Hodgson has a bigger upside as a recruiter. Otherwise, I think they’re pretty even.

(Speaking of Memphis I can see an upset tonight shhhhhh)
Absolutely a trap game for South Florida. Memphis has talent, but not a good team. Talent can show up at any night. How Hodgson finishes out here doesn’t really change my opinion (feel eh if there is double digit losses against any American team). But wow will he continue to even further impress me to keep his team locked in and rolling with all of the outside noise speculating on his next spot.

The options that I’m going to predict are pretty obvious I feel but it seems like we’re going with either

A). Hodgson
B.) Hopkins
C.) National Search Of A Mid Tier Program
D.) Schertz

I think the last time Syracuse had NET better than 40 was in 2021 (No. 37).

It's a small world after all. From 10 years ago.

The decline has been depressing.

But, there is now opportunity. Haynie's own words: “We are a university where our economic model is largely driven by student tuition, room and board. And if one of the reasons students are enthusiastic about Syracuse University is being at a university with top tier athletics… that means we need to be a university with top tier athletics.” This is monumental for those of us who care about the sports program.

Since Haynie is openly stating that elite athletics drive enrollment, brand visibility and student enthusiasm, I expect the AD and HC hires will fully align with this core belief.

There is a new sense of urgency here...finally.

Correct, that is why a Carp/Hodgson duo hire to start off this new era makes the most sense. Will it work out? Who knows too many variables to know for sure but these would be the two correct choices and gives us the best immediate chance.

As I posted above, kinda, but incomplete when you have a lame-duck AD. I wonder if some coaches were hesitant in that situation.

It isn't 20 years ago, putting together a list isn't that difficult anymore. They should have already narrowed that list down and be ready for round 2/3 when the new AD is announced.

From the outside looking in, I agree that combination seems to make the most sense...by a long shot. If the Hop money is real, front loaded, and guaranteed, it is reasonable to assume that could make things a little more complicated - even though my personal belief is that thinking is short sighted.

The bigger question now is about all that NIL money Melo was organizing and floating around Hop… and just where this outcome puts all of that money…
I dare say back in the pockets of the donors.
At least for now.
