What Pope had a .680 winning percentage at BYU and made the tournament twice before he was hired at Kentucky. He also coached 4 years at Utah Valley before going to BYU. He had tons of experience and his record at BYU was great so him leveling up to Kentucky wouldnt be unheard of.

If GMac had been coaching for 8 years and had the success Pope did, he would already be hired here.

A national search is code word to cover HR checkmarks, no such thing in reality as the coaching community is small and everyone knows who is available and interested via agents.

The total body of work should not correlate to a "coin flip" due to one result either way for each coach. That's exactly how you make an emotional decision vs a thoughtful one.

LOL Random games in March aren't going to decide the coaching search. BH doesnt become a worse coach because he lost a game and GMac doesn't become a better coach because he kept the game reasonable against UConn. Not how it works anymore.
