Coach Search Options after Autry

Well, if the Lallys are going to fund the athletic programs like the Vitamin Water guy does for St John’s, what choice do we have? I have no idea if that’s the case but… I guess it depends on if they put their money where their mouth is. I still don’t entirely understand what the issue is with all the infighting so can anyone enlighten me? Sorry, I’ve been on vacation and missed a lot of the conversation over the past few days. The Lallys wanted Heather Lyke (foolishness yes), but didn’t get her, and we ended up with a strong compromise candidate who feels like a home run. And they apparently they want Hodgson (who we all want) and are gonna help fund his NIlL. Is that not accurate?

Do we want to be beholden to one donor? Yes, that’s probably a poor strategy. But we’ve all been hoping for a big whale donor. Is this not the guy? Of course it would be nice if everybody just got along and were all on the same page.
Remember what happened in Puerto Vallarta after that cartel kingpin was killed ha. Same thing. 3 major leadership positions were just sent packing. Power struggles, egos, whatever you wanna call it but it seemed inevitable that it would come to a head at some point.

It’s happening at the moment. Providence is actively negatively recruiting against cuse. And they are providing more money and resources and that’s coming from a super strong source. He actually said “providence is the better job”
The whiplash from we have no money and nobody wants the job to it’s a great job and we have a ton of interest is going to break me.

To be fair can’t any big east team say the same? They are going “all in” on hoops and with no football to support that’s an easy spin. Doesn’t change the fact that they got 3 bids this year and will have no cards to play when football is driving all major ncaa decisions.

Not doubting your source. Just saying look at it from the other perspective.

Hodgson said "providence is the better job" or your source?

Providence is such a good job that a top coach Ed Cooley left 2 years ago.

We're getting close to decision time and I have little doubt that Hodg and his agent are trying to get the most flush deal they can and there was always going to be other suitors promising other bags. It's an agent's job to use that as leverage and bid up the deal, so no surprises there. A little surprised PC has the amount of money being reported, but if they do, they do.

I guess the real questions are:
  • WHAT IS THE REAL NUMBER NEEDED? How much do we REALLY have to spend to get him? (are the rumors that PC is offering $14 mil in NIL and rev share ACTUALLY true or is this a padded number for negotiation purpose? Are the two Daddy Warbucks donors at PC REALLY backing the offer at that level?)
  • WHAT IS OUR MAX OUTLAY WE WON'T GO BEYOND? Do we have a line in the sand we will not cross $$$ wise? (If Lally is driving this car for Hodg, he certainly has the wallet to up our NIL outlay if needed... Will he to get this over the line, with a big sweetner if necessary?)
Outside of NIL/Bags, the PC job is NOT inherently as a good a job as Cuse for a whole host of tangible reasons we know (all candidates know this as well)... So we likely need to be in the ballpark and not the top bid... And again, if we can't compete financially with Providence College where NIL is concerned, welp that's a realization I pray we don't have to live through and recalibrate our expectations for what that means...

FWIW, if Providence is offering 14 million a year for a roster, UConn, St John's, and Villanova should start feeling concerned that a new program is taking over there conference.

It means walk the walk. Or get run over if you are not one of the top 50 teams in revenue sports…. Our rivals will be Hofstra and Albany!!!! Period

This Providence situation really feels like more of a negotiation tool by BH’s team. I’m not saying Providence isn’t legitimately interested or that they don’t have Hodgson high on their list, but BH has wanted this job forever. From what I’ve heard, Syracuse has been pursuing him for two years now, according to Red’s daughter and Kline’s girlfriend.

Because of that, it’s hard for me to see a scenario where Syracuse loses him to Providence over a slightly better NIL situation.

If you’re looking strictly at NIL numbers, then maybe someone could argue that Providence might look comparable or even better in that specific category. But when you step back and look at the total picture, program history, resources, exposure, and overall stature in college basketball, I don’t see how Providence is a better job than Syracuse. Not when you factor everything in.

Ain't that the truth... which makes me believe the numbers may be inflated, but we'll have to see.

Well if we lose out here then the Lally’s, Haynie and everyone else who couldn’t put egos aside deserve every public ridicule that’s coming.

Ahhh... no...

Well daughter of Autry, you can blame the "snakes". But if you're dad didn't go the last two years with LOSING records. It wouldn't have mattered in the slightest WHAT they were planning because you're dad wouldn't have been fired.
Lets not get after the child of a Syracuse legend. The family is probably very hurt by what happened. It played out in public, and there are people who are in thier glory about a man losing his job. His daughter is doing what she can to defend her dad. Let her have her say. It hurts no one to leave her alone

Let's hope.

Agreed, plus revenue sharing ... on top of NIL
