Correction: he asked for a number that was agreed to in priniciple prior, and now his agent is asking for a higher number using the leverage of a second offer from another school. That's what happens when you have options -- smart negotiations.

The question is whether or not our athletic department -- with all of the current political in-fighting -- is going to drop the ball this close to the finish line. Not whether we had the resources to meet the initial demand in the first place, or even whether we have the $$$ to meet the second demand.

Right now, things are a shiz show behind-the-scenes due to politics. Resources are not a systemic problem, but when you have significant donors fighting one another, THAT'S the problem.

That isn't true. That tells me you don't know how this works. You understand that these situations, whether it is a coaching search or recruiting are fluid. Also, there are multiple sides. Some guys know people on one side, some the other. The information coming from each side can be different at the same exact time and it changes from day to day. So, the information isn't right or wrong, it is what is known at the time.

I don’t know if it was fabricated but I know it had something to do with Lallys name being on the melo center and some divisiveness being had there during all that. Could have been a vengeful play based on melo being pissed and not wanting to get bullied by Lally. Again, that came from someone close to melo and shared with me.

I don't know who was backing Melo, but I know Melo was on a plane with Shaq when he heard about the sign at the Melo Center.

That's the coach I want the one who wants to get the best deal he can, that way he gets the support he needs to get players, staff and wins. That brings fans back to the dome sellouts and prime time on TV. Can you imagine Duke coming in at the end of the year 2 top 5 teams dome sold out long range seats. ABC prime time game, and Syracuse wins on a shot at the buzzer.

We're still the best job option this offseason. If he wants to go to Providence, enjoy. He's not Jay Wright and no one good stays at Providence for a reason.

There is a case of overplaying your hand if in fact Hodgson actually prefers Syracuse over Providence or whatever other school there is out there. Everybody has their limit and it does become off putting at a certain point because you ask yourself why am I eating so much crap from one agent or prospective employee. I could see at some point Hodsgon telling his agent to cool it, if he really wants to coach at Syracuse as there is a fine line there. Meet Providence money or get damn close? Sure but at some point it's a yes or no answer for both parties. Can't keep moving the finish line because in a dirty world it continues to get filthier and not a great look

That is why I was sort of hoping Wichita State won, but I knew that would be a tougher sell to the casual fan base because then they would say GMac made the tournament and our new coach couldn't. I didn't want people to be asking that question over and over again. So it was sort of a double-edged sword for Syracuse. We wanted him to have success, so our hire looks better to fans and media, but now that he is getting that success, it is going to cost us more.

Hodgson is a hot commodity. He's asking for more, the same way that anyone who is offered a job makes a counter-offer. His asking for more isn't a red flag. The dysfunction behind the scenes is.

But now that things are in shambles behind the scenes, the adults need to take control and not let politics submarine things.

FWIW, if Providence is offering 14 million a year for a roster, UConn, St John's, and Villanova should start feeling concerned that a new program is taking over there conference.

I think that is the key. It's been said that Providence has a few whale donors that have gotten them to $14MM this year. What about after that? BH isn't going to go to Providence for a one year promise.
