Why did we need a new thread?

Some of the Friends of Bryan gang got my posting and ‘liking’ deactivated in the coaching search thread. Some of us welcome this new thread for high level discussion and no cyber bullying.

Yes. But the MAAC quality was a lot better in 2010 than it is today. Also, Paul Hewitt, Ed Cooley, Bobby Gonzalez, Kevin Willard to name a few.

Its possible that he came off as arrogant and unprepared in an interview, or that he thought that he was guaranteed the job.

I’m not close to his search or anything, so I don’t know if this is relevant, but say I’m offered a job that pays $250k a year but I demand $1m a year for it. Obviously the employer isn’t going to match that. So I’m technically turning it down but was I ever really a realistic candidate if those were my demands? So I don’t think it necessarily has to be a personality fit issue if the monetary demands were just out of scope.

End of the day - the person needs to be right and so do the numbers.

So here's where I'm at. Was all in on Hodg but for whatever reason doesn't seem like its going to work out. The pivot now may be Gerry or Hop. Much prefer Gerry, and although I don't think that now is the time or that he is ready for this - I would never bet against the guy. He's a winner, he has a higher ceiling than most, and most likely would stay here a long time. He will continue to become a better coach. That being said, he is a very high risk and I get that it's "same old same old", but alas, this is where we seem to be...

Even with these reservations, I will always support one of our own. My love for Cuse is not conditional - it was something I was born into - for better or worse it's in my DNA. That's what "Die Hard" means. You win with your team - you lose with your team. I get some of you come from different places in respect to this, and $$ is a factor in your commitment as well -and that's understandable - just don't call yourselves die hards if you're heading for the exits because of this hire...

Yeah you're right, my mistake lol. I missed a few. Not a ton of success though, Fran never got to the Sweet 16

According to my limited research, there has NEVER been a MAAC coach that has been hired directly to a Power conference school from the MAAC. The jump would be massive if its Gmac...

Here’s my fear with in house for the normies to get

1- Hop or GMac get the job
2- decent staff is announced
3- a couple guys we want announced will stay
4- decent NIL package leaked out
5- Decent portal class with some exciting additions
6- off season coverage shows promise and intensity and either of those options are well spoken and the non crazies like us are stoked
7- We smoke both exhibitions an everything looks positive
8- We get to Vegas and can’t score and staff is angry and not sure what to do as we get bulldozed again.
9- The juice and excitement is completely gone and there are no good basketball answers that the staff is able to provide
10- JB is much louder on the media telling Cuse nation to let his guy get going and trust the process and spews some spin about the Vegas losses
11- The tailspin begins before we’ve even gotten to conference season and the dome empties out like it did with Red
12- All along the media and other fanbases are laughing at us like we are Rutgers.

Maybe it doesn’t go this way but the normies need to understand this has a much higher likelihood than with BH and definitely higher with Hop. GMac looks like a good hire compared to Hop and if that’s part of the whole mirage to try and sell this, grading on a curve…

Lastly - if it’s GMac then I’ll just say a little prayer that Siena gives Duke the biggest scare of the season or does the impossible and maybe some faith is restored.

So this season again!

Amazes me people want to hire another alum off JBs staff who was part of the decline of the program; who only had 1 decent season as HC. Would be nice to at least see a follow up year. I'm not sure what's more amazing though; that or supporting another JB guy who sucked for 8 years as a HC and actually has a losing record as an interim Syracuse coach.

Gerry is one of my all time OrangeMEN but if it's between him and Hop I'd call the Miami Oh coach.

Hoping not, just where the consensus on the board seems to be now. Perhaps Hodg and a few other interviews that didn't pan out WAS the national search. I certainly don't know - just going with where this all seems to be heading...

The same people who were furious that Lally was pushing his money towards hiring his guy should be equally as furious at the people who are pushing their money towards keeping it in the family.

Totally agree. It should be we tried your guy and he was a failure now let's go a different route with our guy.
