My perspective on Bryan Blair

The major reason I believe he was hired was to make a fresh start and because he wasn't already in someone's pocket. He did not hold any allegiances coming in like Carp and Lyke. Simply put the board and this special consultant in the end said the best thing we can do is to pick a guy that will probably upset and disrupt everyone equally.

BB is going to tell all the internal groups supporting BH, Hop, and Gmac you know what this is not in the bag for anyone. They'll get a look but with no biases and let's be real that prob didn't sit well with anyone on the hill.

If you take a step back BH, Gmac and Hop are all basic hires, they are family or they are the usual top midmajor angling for a better deal and ready to make the jump to P5. Our fanbase is so desperate for a winner that all we want is the safe choice which really puts 99% of fans into 2 camps BH with his solid record at midmajors or Gmac with his hometown hero status.

BUT that's not how BB is going to see it. He is not in the family nor was he here for the last year or 2 while BH was angling. From his perspective anyone that was here for the last 5-10 years of crap was part of the problem and what they want is probably not the best course of action.

I hope people read BB's bio and his accomplishments, he has been the youngest and first mover on so many things. He was just hired over multiple people that although had flaws they had decades more experience than him and powerful people in their corners. This dude hates the status quo and hearing this how we usually do things...

Right now I hope BB is burning it all down, which is why you hear the panic from insiders and the panic from their insiders and so on and confusion all over. No one knows what he is going to do and maybe that's what we really need right now because the status quo is not working.

Personally I think that means it will be one of the highly touted assistants or even an assistant we have not thought of or a longshot top P5 coach out of left field that he sells a dream. It will not be family and it won't be a midmajor coach moving up with any connection to anyone here and that is going to piss alot of people off, but its what needs to be done now.

So to summarize, the university athletics/NIL situation for basketball is so dire that the only way to field and competitive/upper level basketball team is to hire Gmac with money(hopefully) that was earmarked for Hop? Also, Gmac is the only one who can connect with local businesses to solicit NIL.

In addition to $$, Hodgson was flagged(and not offered) by the university because he had a child out of wedlock. Those two reasons are wild. What is happening?

Someone needs to make a highlight reel for them to watch. Everybody wins when Syracuse wins. If you're only supporting your guy then you're not supporting SU.

That's why it's bizarre when people here give their emotional "I'm out" reactions to decisions made with which they don't agree. Then seconds later they decry wealthy donors doing the same thing. (Spoiler alert: wealthy people aren't smarter just because they have more money.)

Tirico was on with Steve Infante- kept repeating a similar mantra that we all need to get along. He sorta called out those on social media bashing people, but if you read between the lines I think he was also sending a message to our boosters to stop the infighting.

It’s already been 10 pages of doomscrolling since he posted but he specifically said that they are interviewing outside guys that they are not even telling donors about. Now why would that be?

My take over and over has been that this will not be in family and it will clearly not be BH that has many ties to a big donor.

It will be someone out of left field. Basically if no one can get along the best thing is to blow it up and no one gets their man. If it comes to that then the donors will either come around and support the program or we’ll have to start a can collection or something anyway.

I have never seen a division 1 player brick so many layups and get stuck more 1 foot from the rim than #11 in that game. He single handedly almost lost that for them. At one point he was 3-17 in the game and not one shot more than 3 feet away

1. He is more enaging and likeable, which helps to raise funds.
2. He understands the players. He is more of a players coach.
3. He has a certain "we can win this thing" quality and makes his players believe it.
4. He was more loved at SU, one of the most loved players ever. Because of that is why more seats will be filled even though many on here say they won't come. They will in the end.
5. If it doesn't work at first, he will make adjustments.
6. if he is wrong, he will own it.

If GMAC takes the job, I guess Doty will be our savior. We might pick up a couple hundred new fans from Fulton. Bring the kid from Chittenango and maybe we get another hundred new fans. Great kids, but we’re not winning games either either of them.

Doty was second in MAAC player of the year voting, and is the team leader. He will help win games for sure and keep his teammates on the right path. And expect him to have a better 3 point shot next year - I think it was 33%. And he shoots 85% from the FT line.
And the kid from Chittenango is a 4 star, I think he was regarded as a top 50 national point guard at one time. Gerry said he is incredibly smart, can read the court and make the passes when needed. Seemed very high on him so I think he would be a help too.

At any rate, I am still not sold that it will be GMAC as our next head coach.
Unless we really dont have the money and GMAC is desperate to try and save the program.
Just doesnt seem a good fit for either right now, in a couple of years for sure.

They might not have heard from anyone because no one has entered the portal. With what’s happening in football, maybe they don’t want to be accused of tampering.

At this point we know all these guys are being tampered with or at least their agents are talking to other schools all the time. I just really can't get over someone saying "all the guys intend on coming back because they have zero offers". What world is this person living in? Not directed at bulldog of course, I appreciate all the info he continues to post, but I question whoever is saying stuff like that about the current players, that comment comes off as so clueless.

Whether I’m a nut for liking the idea of Gerry (not a casual fan like mentioned earlier, 30 year STH), or you’re a nut for thinking that’s a horrible idea… Fact is no one here REALLY knows for sure how any one of these potential hires might do.

I assure you, someone in 1976 said “why did they hire that doofus from within? Why didn’t they hire _____?” No one knew it would grow to 30k+ capacities within a football stadium, many final fours and a National Championship.
All we can do is wait and see and hope for the best. If it don’t work, then we can complain to our hearts content.

And if this goes on another week or two, will we hit 1000?
