Coach Search Options after Autry

Im not in the business of blindly supporting the SU administration but there's only so many major donors to go around. Syracuse has increased its major donor base and has more coming in now then ever. However, in the current landscape its still not enough and some of those major donors are essentially football only.

They need to try and get more from the general fanbase and business community. The truth is there's only so much $$ they can generate and most schools are in much worse shape.
There’s not even a place to donate for basketball for NIL. Sure you can donate to SU, but that’s not going to help NIL.

How does Duke do it?

Duke is an outlier its like asking hoe Ohio State does it for fball. Keep in mind Duke is almost the inversez they've lost fbsll players they couldn't afford in the NIL era and their QB is at Miami for this fall because they dont have the fball NIL to match.

Shouldn’t be worrying about attendance in November. Need to
worry about attendance in February. I agree we need to go offense first. Gerry is not that guy. His teams play hard and defend. It’s very JB oriented playing man instead of zone.

If we don't have money and are going to struggle with funding until we start to win, then our best chance to do more with less is to have an elite offensive coach and try to outscore everyone.

In a conference like ACC, when we won't have the top-shelf elite talent, a defensive first team will just get overwhelmed more times than not. The top half of the league would just be bigger, faster, stronger, and trying ot hang with that on a nightly basis by just playing defense will not work IMO. That is why I will lean towards someone who has an elite offense system or philosophy. Defensive first unless you have extreme talent will not win at the P4 level on a regular basis. And it seems at least while we start this back up we will not have the NIL to buy the elite level talent.
100% Phil. This is where I’m at too.

I like what miami did more and more lately. Promoted an assistant then They put everything into 3 elite players and said let’s roll the dice with the rest. It worked well enough for a 7 seed.

I think when people see an offense humming like you said the butts will go in the seats.

The more I step back and just pretend BH and gmac don’t exist the more this is where I’m landing as the best bet for the short term.

I mean like Kansas they mostly haven’t cared about football ever.

I’m beginning to think Syracuse has produced the least successful and poorest alumni base in the history of academic institutions in the US.

Full disclosure, I’m not an alum.
I mean what about all the people we have put in the television and broadcasting business?

I’m at the point reading this entire thread. Everytime someone writes “endowment” I laugh to myself.

Considering he played most of the season with 8 scholarship players, 7 the last 3 weeks, and they played a harassing type of defense, I dont think he had any choice but to play a slow paced offense. But they had a lot of movement, not standing around waiting to hail a cab like SU.

I would have liked to see his offense in January and February if they hadnt lost so many players by the end of December.
I totally agree. I like the look of his team.

I've heard some rumblings but I believe NIL guarantees played a big role and Hodgsons agent may have also overplayed his hand
So does he underplay his hand now guaranteeing us GMac or hop on the cheap…which is probably even worse ???

Edit…and to be fair with our supposed NIL, Hodgson made the absolute correct move…stay put, crush next year and get a mega job…taking the Cuse job is a career killer at this point for whoever takes it until things change

There is but it's essentially the coaches fund and is not well publicized. Its something that should be changing in the near future and something that will be noted to Syracuse because your not the first person to mention this exact problem.

Ha. Problem is alumni are 5 hours away all over and our center of gravity isn’t SU. There’s really no peer pressure to be a part of it.
